  1. Well, the USB port on my Marshall monitor broke on while my gear was on the truck. I think I may try to replace it with a Lemo connector. This is why I need a real monitor.

  2. Hello again, San Diego.

  3. Good investment? No. It's already been discontinued, so in terms of technology, it's obsolete already. BUT, it still gets the same basic image quality as the current Reds. If you are looking to shoot 4k raw at 120 fps at the same price as an FS camera, it's a good deal. Once the Dragon is out in the wild though, no one will want to use the old sensor. I suspect that is when we will see the last of the Red One.
  4. Is it weird that Tuesday is my Saturday?

  5. That's just good choreography and rehearsal. A good actor will be able to figure his natural movement out, and replicate it well. Also note that in order to pull off a good mirror scene, you have to measure and mark avery thing perfectly, including your lens height. You'll have to measure from the focal plane to the mirror, back to the actor's face; That will be your measurement for the turn around. When you flip around, stay on the same side of the actor (in this case, it's the actors right side), then flip the image horizontally in post to get a mirror flip.
  6. If you notice, his movement in the mirror doesn't match up exactly with his movement. I would say that they just shot the reverse (that wall is probably a fly-away wall), and composited it over where we see the mirror.
  7. I'm going to pick up my new Paralinx Arrow+ 1:2 today. Thanks for the great customer service, Dan!

  8. Thanks, Eric Fletcher, for the Steadicam training today!

  9. Is there some kind of sporting event going on today?

  10. I have well over half of February booked. Now if people could only ask if I'm available on the days I'm not booked, I would have it made. I've had so many people ask me to shoot on the same dates!

  11. Mark, Your question is a bit vague. What specific S16 lenses are you comparing them against?. In a general sense, there only real difference between using S16 or FF lenses on the S16 format is that the FF lenses are using only the buttery goodness of the center of the lens (the rest being cropped out). The field of view on both lenses when viewed on the same format will be approximately the same. The CP.2's don't actually flare that much when compared to older lenses (which is why some people prefer the old high speed primes). They are just the Zeiss' still glass in cinema housing, so they react the same way. I hope this helps.
  12. Does anyone else have a mountain bike? I've been wanting to bike a part of the backbone trail, but I don't want to "127 hours" myself.

  13. My Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 finally updated to Jelly Bean last night. It feels like a brand new tablet! Thanks, Google!

  14. Well, according to that chart, S16mm is about half the size of APS-C. So if you are using a 10mm lens on a S16, the chart says you have a 61.7° field of view. If you compare that to APS-C, the same lens has a FOV of 98.9°. Now, to get close to that same FOV (61.7°) on the APS-C sensor, you will need to use a 20mm lens (it will actually get you a FOV of 60.6°, but who's counting.) It's all in the chart.
  15. Do you ever feel like reading tweets is a lot like trying to decipher hieroglyphics?

  16. Canon C300 on the rig, but the Arri 16mm will sadly only be used as a prop on this shoot.

  17. The Camera House has a paid internship program. Have you tried that?
  18. They achieved the look that they wanted, and I feel that it was the right choice, artistically. Do you think that movie would have been greatly improved by shooting on some other format; say 70mm? Anyway, the point I was trying to make, which Geoff picked up on, was:
  19. I'm no expert, but I get the best results when I use Adobe's "YouTube" Preset (under the H.264 Format), then set to render at "Maximum Bit Depth" in "Video" tab. I also check the "Use Maximum Render Quality". This way you get the maximum quality, and Youtube won't do any additional processing on it.
  20. I'm selling my lightly used GoPro HD Hero 2. It's in near mint condition! I just upgraded to the Hero3, so I have no use for this one anymore. - $200 Includes: GoPro HD Hero2 camera body USB cable Waterproof housing Vented rear door for housing Wi-Fi BacPac w/ remote, charging cable & rear door Battery BacPac w/ 2 batteries (3 total w/camera) & rear door 2 clip mounts w/ arm extension Surf mount set (unsused) Vented helmet strap-mount Head-mount Extra lens covers for waterproof housing (unused, not pictured)
  21. I'm selling my GoPro HD Hero2 with a few accessories, including the Wi-Fi BacPac. Send me a message if you're interested.

  22. Why do you have to buy a camera, anyway? Why not rent? You still haven't discussed lenses either. I feel that you can make just about any camera these days look cinematic. Have you seen 28 Days Later. That movie is phenomenal. Don't get caught up in all of these camera specs.
