50k $ is good value for a fully filmed ( ie in the can ) movie even on DV ( in UK terms this was more like £25k when exchange rates were more favourable to the UK )...is there no-one in New York that would mix the sound for free for work experience ? Hi Kevin ...I think alot of people get confused with trailers from unfinished work. Trailers are obviously edited from a finished film to advertise and sell to the public...until a film is made and distribution begun this can't obviously happen. You have made a remarkable effort to get your project ( probably with little money ) up and running, with great results, and hopefully this 'trailer' will help you gain more interest and hopefully more funding...even so I get the feeling you will finish it anyway! Thanks Karel, You can enter the website and see all of the work we have all put into the project so far...including a trailer, several scenes, photos of the collaborators, cast list including Philip Barantini ( 'Ned Kelly' with Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom ) etc. And yes I have been funded by the UK Film Council so far...they provided all of the script development money. Hi I much appreciate the responses...I make commercials, but the main problem at the moment is I'm getting a feature together...you can view it on www.bigness.co.uk. We played the trailer in a medium sized cinema last week and the sound seemed very harsh...not pleasant at all. It was mixed by a musician and someone suggested that this may have been the problem. I'd like to be in a position where I can get a reasonable sound together myself and then get it tweeked in a mixing studio later on. Again thanks for the information

Hi John thanks for the article...presumably the mag never happened, also the proposed price of $45,000 would be far too much nowerdays...it would have to be less than the price of a red by a fair margin. But with the technology getting cheaper and better all of the time that may not prove to be much of a problem. I would say it will be interesting to see how much 4k work is done compared with 2k work, this may tell us how much of a market there is. Does anyone know how many S16 Aatons there are being used, Joe Dunton recons in his article that there are 3,000 arri 16srs being used ( in 2003, the time of the article). ?

Hi, The new S16 sized Ikonoskop coming out reminds me of some articles a few years back about building HD sensored magazines for arri and aaton S16 cameras...did this come to anything. It now seems like a fabulous idea... with hundreds of S16 cameras about already fitted with real shutters and through the lens viewfinders ala Arri D21 it could be a great way forward. I wonder if a third party manufacturer would be allowed to develop this idea?

Hi, Thanks in advance for any replies. I have edited mini DV (sd) footage which has letterboxing on it. I now need the central ( 16x9 ) portion without the letterboxing on it so I can maximise the display size on youtube. Any ideas for the best way? cheers rob spence
