For all your other questions there are a thousand answers. You simply need to research and also shoot and experiment. If it's your first time shooting with DSLR I suggest you get cracking in your experimenting.

It worked when purchased therefore it was as described. This is just how it is with old cameras. I purchased a Nikon R10 that worked fantastic for a few cartridges and then it just died. It became a paperweight. The other two Nikons I owned never gave me trouble. I had some Canons that died almost immediately, but my 1014 XL-S is awesome. Because of the current situation with film i may abandon super8 sometime in 2014. There is only so long this niche of the niche format will survive. :(

What specifications should I get when transfering/telecining?
Matt Stevens replied to Dylan Gonzalez's topic in Super-8
Simply tell the company you you Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and what your codec limitations are. They should be able to accommodate you. I have a PC and CS5 and have successfully used proRes. Framediscreet, Cinelicious, Lightpress, Spectra will all do you right. You can't go wrong with any of them. You definitely want 1080p. Just remember, with only three rolls of film your per-roll charge won't be cheap. Normally you need 6 or 7 rolls to get a good per-roll price. Just let them know you are new to this, what you have and ask for their lowdown. -
Well, that's not the kind of movie we will be making. :) The is written for specifically for Vietnam and will actually be cheaper to shoot there because of the weakness in their currency. Much of the production value will come from our shooting in what westerners will consider to be an exotic location. This is all pie in the sky if we cannot make it to principle photography, but we are trying to cover all the bases as we raise funds.

Safe car interiors while driving
Matt Stevens replied to Michael Nelson's topic in Camera Operating & Gear
I have a project coming up with maybe ten pages total of car stuff. We are quite curious about the BlackMagic Compact for this. -
Gents (and ladies), So the time is soon coming. We are going to need a real, true, no b***poop budget estimate/breakdown for our super independent project. There is filmbudget.com but I am wondering about alternatives. Any advice? One thing that is key for us is this is going to be a micro-budget production. The normal rules likely will not apply. I know a normal line producer would say we need two million, but that's absurd. We want to shoot he NYC section (act 1) for less than 20 grand and we know it can be done. So we are hoping to find a way to budget this for what we are going to do and not by regualr Hollywood rules. Thanks.

If the church is well lit go with 200T. If there are dark patches 500T might be more suitable. I never auto-meter. I take readings throughout the place before the ceremony begins so I know what I am up against and just overexpose a full stop when I am shooting (on manual). That works best since Kodak's neg stock looks lovely when pushed. Underexposing will mean explosive grain. For reversal you want to expose exactly or under by a 1/4 stop. As for lights, they will distract participants so no. I would not use one.

Well it won't be possible to shoot the project on film. I had wanted act 1 to be film and act 2 digital (shot overseas) but that just cannot happen with the current climate. I won't be given a dime if I choose film. This is so sad. Yes, it's exciting that the 5DMIII has been hacked to shoot RAW. But it's just another push away from film.

The Beaulieu 4008 ZM II is fantastic for use on a Tripod or dolly track. Hand held it can be a bitch. Slow motion on a slow moving and highly stable dolly would give you astounding footage.

I'd like many close-up pics so we can see exactly how you di this. More is more, not less, so share, please.

I think we need more information on this.

This is funny and kinda annoying as well

This is straying into extremely offensive territory. Politics is NOT appropriate here. Nor is the implied murdering of them. -
Best recording device for sync sound on a low budget
Matt Stevens replied to davidhughens's topic in Super-8
Talk about an old thread coming back to life! I used the H4N on this. No crystal sync, so it had to be edited line by line later. https://vimeo.com/41206470 -
200T will have noticeably less grain vs 500T. Of course, I love grain so I love shooting with 500T. :)

I'm thinking he could get away with 200T here. In fact, were he to purchase 250D from Pro8mm he would have a beautiful image. But Pro8 are crooks so he'd have to deal with the knowledge that they could hold his film hostage with outrageous shipping charges. Were it me I would shoot 200T. But I have the experience to do so.
