  1. I wish I could post it but the DP took it down and refuses to repost it.
  2. We are at the point where the only men allowed to make original films are Spielberg and Nolan.
  3. This had better not a big c*** tease!!!!!!
  4. Well said, C. Hey look, I don't have the cash for two cameras at the moment. Not gonna happen. I am likely buying a BlackMagic Compact. However, should the feature I am in pre-production on move forward and actually get shot I will have a little paycheck and the desire to buy a new 8mm camera, should one be available and make sense. I am happy with my Canon 1014 XL-S and deal with the drawbacks inherent with the format. By the way... CRYSTAL SYNC IS A MUST for this new camera. Without it the camera will have serious drawbacks. I'd be better of spending $500 having my Canon 1014 XL-S crystal synched.
  5. 3D is down down down. Studios are not even reporting the % of 3D sales this summer for most films. People are sick of the higher prices. My sister and her husband took the kids to the moves a lot more two years ago. The past year or so they saw two price hikes in their local theaters and so no more 3D at all and even 2D they are cutting back. They are not alone. This is happening everywhere. $8 for a popcorn? $4 for a medium soda? Really? Next summer is already so heavy with tent pole epics that the studios are going to find themselves in the same boat. May is going to basically be the month you MUST release your 250 million dollar film or you are going to face audiences with blockbuster fatigue. Anyway... It's the ticket prices. They are too damned high. Period.
  6. The idea behind the Digital Bolex is a good one. Global Shutter, 16 glass, RAW, professional connectors. It makes sense. But only IF the camera can actually make it to market and function as advertised.
  7. Pin registration would be a must. Single, 12, 18, 24, 30 & 48 would be great frame rates. I don't know how much I like the idea of not having an eye-cup. Would there be a video tap/connection for a much larger monitor? One of 8mm's biggest drawbacks is the fixed lens so if that was dealt with, my eyes would go wide. Lastly, quiet quiet quiet. Super8 cameras are so damned loud. How would that be dealt with, if at all? If this is an actual could happen product and not a pipe dream, I may pee myself.
  8. Yes unfortunately it is a dream that has not yet come true. My partners and I had hoped the Digital Bolex would hit by late summer and be thoroughly tested by the Fall so that we could consider it for a low budget feature we are lining up for early 2014, but at this point we have given up on it and will likely shoot it with a 5DMKIII via RAW or possibly a RED EPIC. We really have no choice. The BlackMagic just won't ship and early work on the 4K camera is the lower dynamic range is such that the first camera actually produces a more film like image.
  9. Agreed, though with so many Kickstarters now failing to produce an end resulting product, the though of losing a gran doesn't please me. I know plenty of people who ponied up money for something andin the end got nothing.
  10. As long as the motor is rather consistent it can work out. Especially with some of the latest digital software in post.
  11. I've watched as forum after forum I frequent slowly die off of users. This one is no exception. The activity level is near zilch compared to what it once was.
  12. Without Kodak's Ektachrome 100D, reversal is now a fringe of a fringe product at great cost and annoyance. It is essentially dead. Just the way it is. Negative Vision3 is what's widely available and therefore easier to shoot, develop and scan.
  13. These threads pop up every few months. it's a pipe dream. It aint happening, no matter how hard we dream.
  14. Well reversal is gone now so for daylight 50D is the best bet and will yield minimal grain. Properly exposed you will have an image that looks like 16mm. 200t is noticeably grainier and 500t... Well... It's big fat grain. Of course, I love big fat grain. :)
  15. The forced blockbuster structure has resulted in countless bombs this year. It's a disaster. So how will the studios react? By denying the truth and forcing their producers to take even less risk.
  16. It's sad that Pacific Rim failed but creatively it worked (for me). This year is just far too crowded with the studios thinking every movie needs to be a blockbuster. Big mistake.
  17. I'm putting together a feature that will be shot digitally and one avenue or approach may be with the BlackMagic Compact. We will look at it (and some of the new gimbal steady rigs coming to market). However 8mm is 8mm and no digital capture method can substitute. In fact, the main character in the film uses a Super8 camera from time to time and a crucial scene that leads the film into the third act will be the 8mm footage captured by the lead.
  18. I really liked your film and commented on it many moons ago. It's so rare to see someone go all out as you did.
  19. Duall is very expensive. But they have a decent reputation.
  20. Pro8's horrific reputation is well known here. Anyone who wishes to do business with them is playing with fire. I know someone who had their Canon 1014 XL-S' gate widened. The problem was, it wasn't done correctly and so the film was being scratched as it was run. Pro8 refused to fix it. Contact Tom at http://filmmaker8.com/Home.html He likely has a variety of cameras in stock. I bought a Canon 1014 XL-S from him and it's a keeper. He's extremely customer service oriented. You can also try Spectra.
  21. DO NOT buy from Pro8. You can get a tip top Nikon R10 or Canon 1014 XL-S at your price range from any number of trusted dealers.
  22. Sleep Always is well done. I have it on DVD. Their pro sound mix helps. Sound is crazy crucial to a film's success. Guy Maddin's HEART OF THE WORLD is the best short I have ever seen. No contest.
  23. If you listen closely you can hear the cameras quite a lot in this. Great little film and astounding Scott could pull it off. But he did. Just remember... They planned planned planned and then planned some more.
  24. Well, ouch on your Nizos but never buy from eBay expecting success. It's a crapshoot. The belt driven Nizos are absolutely quiet, far more than the Canon 814 XL-S. But to me the 814 and 1014 XL-S are quieter than any non-Nizos. But they will STILL be loud. Very loud and you might find that shooting 16mm makes more sense when you factor in post production, a sound mix, etc.Your Super8 cameras will have to be crystal synced or you will have no chance of a successful sound mix in post. It would be a disaster. Message me and I can hook you up with a trusty repair person.
  25. Well I am damn proud of my 8mm short film work, especially MISCOMMUNICATIONS, which is my best short film, period. https://vimeo.com/27267624 For actual 8mm with dialog, that is not an easy thing to do because of camera noise and sync issues. For me, I shoot super8 using the format's strengths.
