Do labs usually make things right when they goof?
Giray Izcan replied to Matthew W. Phillips's topic in Post Production
Chris, It's ok. I'm sorry. No reason to elevate the argument. I apologize if I offended you. -

From Spectra? That makes a lot of sense, haha. -

Matthew, I remember trying a few times to open files even with that software. I had to hit refresh button a few times, restart my pc etc. It Mau be kind of tricky. I guess give them a call tomorrow, and try to get an answer from them. Spectra produces pretty decent results imho. Bu the way, regarding Chris, I agree with you. It's completely irrelevant, probably another Yank hating guy from wherever that bashes on America. I would just ignore him, and would let him bark I suppose. Maybe eventually he would just get the point, and stop. -

Google software to convert Mac files to windows, so this way, you can open Mac based files on your pc. I worked with Spectra, I had to do that. -
Which option to choose: FS700 vs. Red One
Giray Izcan replied to Andre Hansen's topic in Camera Operating & Gear
Red 1 is not a heavy camera to handhold. I just shot a project on my BL4s, and 80 percent was handheld. I shot it with S4 glass, matte box and 1000ft mag. I prefer the 1000ft mag for handheld, because it balances better on my shoulder. To me, R1 feels like a handycam I guess, haha. -

How much is 6000 ft of 500 stock? Including shipping to Los Angeles. Thanks. -
difference of exposure between cameras
Giray Izcan replied to Nossair CHKERBOUBY's topic in General Discussion
It's should be the same, except, obviously each format has different DR. An image from a dslr might have clipped highlights vs on film most likely you won't have that issue. Same thing goes for shadow details. Same exposure on a format might end up with more information in the shadows. -
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

That's unfortunate... -
Dom, Thanks for your response. I heard that 18mm lens doesn't clear the mirror shutter. Are RPPs even compatible with Arri 35mm cameras? Thank you.
-
Hello everyone, I have a shoot coming up on 35mm. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with RPPs. Are they any good in terms of resolution, witness marks, etc.? Thanks in advance.

Operating Handheld Between Takes
Giray Izcan replied to Matt Sezer's topic in Camera Operating & Gear
I was operating my personal camera BL4s on a project I was hired on as the dp. Yesterday, 90% of the day was handheld, and it was really beneficial for my 1st to grab the camera from me between takes. -
After Effects Grain Reduction for 16mm
Giray Izcan replied to Steve Zimmerman's topic in Post Production
Steve, 2/3 overexposure for 13 stock is 125 ASA not 160. 160 ASA is more like 1/3 of a stop overexposure. Also, when you shoot, expose for shadows since you can bring highlight details back later on. This way, you can avoid excessive shadow grain build-up. -

Will digital ever be as good as film
Giray Izcan replied to Edward Butt's topic in General Discussion
That makes sense Mr. Mullen. My personal opinion is that digital lacks the dimensionality of film. It looks sharp but there is some sort of veil that makes images flat in comparison to film. When I saw "Skyfall" sure it has nice photography but not the depth and richness of Deakins' previous works on film such as The Assassination of Jessie James." -

I love it when I see people say stuff like, people shoot on film to achieve a retro look. What do you mean by that exactly? I watched "Django Unchained" and "Cloud Atlas" just yesterday, and don't think they looked retro at all. -
Top Light and shadows
Giray Izcan replied to Alexandre de Tolan's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
You can place your top light source off to the side of a chandelier, not directly above it. -
I agree with Bill. I saw some of the sample clips, and am not impressed. I can get way sharper and pleasing images with Sr3.

Movies with excellent cinematography. Ideas?
Giray Izcan replied to Adam R Koehler's topic in General Discussion
Turin Horse, a beautiful black and white Hungarian film. It's on Netflix, strongly recommend you see it. -
I agree with you. What I meant was I thought you'd like to shoot on digital before film.
-
I'm glad you said you would have liked to shoot it on 35. I'm kind of surprised, I thought you were more pro digital person.

Hello everyone. I am looking for a CP 16 viewfinder extension tube to use on my NPR camera. Please contact me if you have one. Thanks.

Hey everyone, I've been looking into Contax Zeiss 25 and Rokinon 24 to use on my super 16 camera. Both of those lenses' witness marks start from 2 -3 ft and then Infiniti. Is there any trick to tape measure and pull focus on those lenses?
-
Yes it is to measure distances for focus. That's what I have been doing, but am just curious if I'm blind or the camera doesn't have a focal plane mark.
-
Hey everyone. Does anyone know where the focal plane on NPR located? I measure from pretty much the gate, but can't see the actual focal plane symbol on it.
