  1. My Advice is: Buy a Camera first. Shoot and get experience. Learn! If you still like it after a year or so then think about cenversion. In that case of course a ARRI 535 would be cool. Randy
  2. i would have a moviecam compact for around 2500£. well not MINE (im definitiveky NOT selling my baby) but the rental company who sold me my camera has another one for roughly 2100£. so with shipping in metalboxes, with 3 magazines, two batteries, groundglases etc... i would say thats a fair price (2500). but its 4perf!! i believe they have an ARRI 535 as well for 3000£ but i would have to ask if it is still avaiable. PM me if interested. Randy
  3. We all discuss Filming but i believe we forgot a very important part. Location Scouting / Hunting. Lately i have been visiting two places. One is outside, perfect for adventure movies and one is an awesome Barock Room Please share your pictures here and describe the location. This Barock Room can be found in Switzerland at the Museum Library. They are happy to let you shoot film there http://www.stibi.ch/de-ch/museum/barocksaal/architektur.aspx And here are a few Pictures i made 3 days ago on a Trip in Switzerland. Location would be perfct for Adventure or maybe even a Western? See more Pictures here: http://www.randytomlinson.com/cinematography/images (index) Location is here: 46°57'17.6"N 9°32'43.5"E (Google maps)

  5. ask simon wyss. he is a good camera mechanic. he is in switzerland
  6. In Switzerland it is legal to download Music and Movies for your own collection. You are not allowed to redupload them nor distribut them. I know some Folks having 10 Harddisk, each 4TB vull of Movies, TV Shows etc... My perosnal oppinion? I'm not happy. If i do some hard work, working 20 day on a set, spend tousands of $$$ just to find out some little schoolboy STOLE my work for fre, i^ll sure would kick his ass. But reality unfortunately looks quet different. Just 2 weeks ago a guy with a black magic in a movie theatre was caught with a 4000$ lense on it. camera was confiscated and then destroyed. Man what a laugh i had :D
  7. http://www.filmstockclearance.com/ good source in england. if you order from there say hi from randy tomlinson to rachel baker. im a regular customer (35mm)
  8. i have a few AC mags here...if u can tell me the issue number i can have a look. also have a few cinefex.
  9. BOY's...please. Don't fight. (make love, not war...uhm i meant make film, not war) :D however, as i mentioned before i do not have plans for a big one. i was just currious. and all your answers helped me a lot. i will continue my plans for nature film, animals, maybe in scandinavia filming wolfes or lions in africa...thats kinda stuff i wanna do. or maybe going to mongolia or into the himalayas and do some landscape shots.
  10. freya brother  you are warmly invited and welcome to the party. i even spend a beer or two haha
  11. i rent them. i can have CP2 lenses for 60$ a day or cooke s4i for 80$ / day BUT i own a 58mm HELIOS 44-2 lense with PL mount. and if i flip the PL adapter half way around i even can do some macro shots :) the lense has a range of F2 to 22
  12. ooh i am not planing a big one. i am far from ready for that. im just curious. thank you for the advice, tough. very nice :-)
  13. i have a ARRI SR3 high speed advanced package. costs around 1700US$ (shipping and tax not included) NOT MY CAMERA but its one of my friends one and i personally know tha camera as i have rented it before and it is in extremely good condition (machincally perfect) and very well maintenanced. PM me if interested
  14. I was always tinking how would this work? Rookie Queston: Lets assume i have a great script / great Story. And i know exactly what Actor or Actress i want for a specific Role. One of the Big Names, maybe Virginia Madsen, Bill Murray etc... (the list is long) I believe if you are mot a member of the Actors Guild it is pretty difficult to aproach them? Or how would you do it? Just ring up their Agency and tell them you want Mr.X for a Audition for a Feature Film? Sending them the Script first or Part f it.... (so they can prepare) And then? What if they love it and say yes? Contracts and so have to go thru Actors Guild i guess. Costs you thousands of $$$ How about to negotiate with the Actors "salary"? Talk to them directly or via Agency Attorney? I have never done that but im curious how you approach this . Randy
  15. yes i have a moviecam compact, 2x400feet mags, 1x 1000feet mag, two new battery packs, two chargers, 4 ground glasses, color video tap, monitor, long lense (viewfinder) price was roughly 4k
  16. i also still consider myself as a filmstudent and i tought the 4k i spent for my moviecam compact package (3 magazines, two battery packs with charger, 4 different ground glasses, monitor and video tap) is quiet a lot. however, i knoew why i wanted film and not digital. for me the calculation matches my desire. im happier than i would be with digital.
  17. Books i have: About 20 CINEFEX Issues The Filmmakers Eye The 5 C of Cinematography very cool: Master Shots - Volume 2 Cheers Randy
  18. as for FX i must say i really dont like all this new digital stuff. the more realistic it looks the worse. i mean 3D models generated and placed into film. in the 70' or 80' they had to create life size models or miniatures, as example, the huge city in blade runner was made by modelbuilders, or all the stuff in aliens, they had to create these monsters and place an actor into it. nowaday they do nearly everything with maya or other 3D programms. it looks nice, tough. but still... in my opinion it kinda distorts the craft of film making. it's not the same anymore. 30 years ago you had to really work to create something. here is some sony F65 footage which is really sweet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWwmIwxd4YA cheers. may the force be with you :) EDIT: have a look at the early CINEFEX books and you know what i mean.
  19. uuhm..may i kindly ask what you mean by that? im confused
  20. in my opinion only the sony F65 currently is capaple to be a serious competitor with film. but i am actually tired of this endless discussions so i not having further comments on this haha. film is film, digital is digital. who cares. filmdirector X prefers to work digital and film director Y wants to work with film. so it is..amen :-)
  21. to short note for me. i can not before february. to bad. would love to join.
  22. I use a Sekonik Litemaster Pro L478D :-) Perfect for the Job.
