  1. Kodak SP (also Super8 as I don’t have any Regular8 anymore)
  2. This is most likely some Agfa-stock (and yes, it‘s Super8)…
  3. Hi! There are some smaller companies that used reversal stocks for some of their prints, e.g. Mundus Film in Germany in Super8. Some of them might have used the same stock as used by amateurs. However, the majority of prints was done on special print-stock - at least 95%. You can find some information regarding edge codes under these two links: https://www.filmpreservation.org/userfiles/image/PDFs/fpg_10.pdf https://www.filmkorn.org/deciphering-edge-marks/?lang=en But there‘s generally only little information about Regular8-, Super8- or 9.5mm-prints on the net that I’m aware of. There’s much more information for 16mm, e.g.: http://www.paulivester.com/films/filmstock/guide.htm Sometimes, the information about 16mm print stocks also applies to smaller formats But there are always exceptions… . Good luck! BTW: When the prints are in color and from before WWII, you might find some information here: https://filmcolors.org/timeline-of-historical-film-colors/
  4. Hi! Remark: I’m just an amateur! But as nobody else is answering, assuming that you are working with a video camera: a) These days, you can pick a color and a range in your video editor. This way, it doesn’t matter anymore whether the green screen is light, medium or dark green. For amateur purposes, it can even be red or blue or whatever. The only reason to stick to the usual light green is that it usually doesn’t occur in the actors‘ eyes, hairs, clothes, … . To ensure that the screen is recorded in the „proper color“, use the same lighting (or at least the same temperature) for both fore- and background. b) Ensure that the background is evenly lit. E.g. when the upper left corner is slightly darker then the rest, this can lead to problems in post. Whether you need shadow boxes for this, depends on your gear and location. c) At least with my Panasonic camera, it’s mandatory that both fore- and background (=actors and screen) are bright. And both have to be equally bright. Otherwise the camera is recording too much noise, which can lead to the screen not getting properly removable in post. d) Ensure that the actors don’t cast a shadow on the screen. Otherwise you’ll have to increase the range of green tones that belong to the screen to a level that is removing the eyes etc., too. e) Ensure that the actors don’t get lit from the back (=from the lights for the screen). Otherwise they might get something like a halo around them. (Shadow boxes? Maybe!) That’s it! Have fun! (I cannot comment on the light - I don’t like fluorescent as it can cause flicker and usually results in some color cast in the video. LED and tungsten are both fine for me - unless you have got some very cheap household LEDs that cause a flicker in the video - especially when using slo-mo-framerates. How many basketball-slo-mo-scenes with my kids have been ruined by the gym having cheap LEDs that start to result in flicker beyond 100fps.)
  5. Most of those results from „back then“ are now completely obsolete: Vision2 has been replaced by Vision3. Most scans have been done with single chip CCD sensors where the manufacturers cheated (e.g. on a 12MB sensor, only the green channel had the full resolution, the red and and blue part only had half as many sensors - that’s where those „double the scan resolution“-hints come from). Details of the film have been lost in the debayering step. Many of the „visible grain structures“ turned out to be „visible sensor noise“, „compression artifacts“ or side-effects of features like „digital edge enhancement“ or „digital resharpening“. The „achievable resolution“ isn’t only limited by the film, but also by the lenses, effects like „motion blur“ and the skills of the cameramen. The „achievable resolution“ is also limited by the used scanner (sensor, lenses, …). There’s a point after which an increased resolution doesn’t add details, but instead only creates a more lifelike digital representation of the grain structure. So, if you want to have a more film-like experience, then you will have to go way beyond 4K. But this is more for archival purposes or very large screens. For most homes, even UHD is already overkill (size of the TV + distance to the TV + „resolution“ of the human eye). Etc. Besides: Bluray is using a lossy codec. Hence - and because of the need to upscale HD-videos on an UHD-TV - „4K“ transfers of films usually look much better than „HD“ transfers.
  6. Hi! a) Do you want to lift the camera (like with a crane) or should it stay at eye-level (so that a simple tripod is sufficient)? b) What’s your eye-level? 1.5m or 2m? c) Do you need a video head so that you can do some smooth panning etc.? Or is a photo head sufficient? d) How do you define „stable“? Do you need a ground spreader with weights? e) How large is your backpack? f) There are special tripods for smartphones that have an integrated Bluetooth remote release so that you can start/stop the take without tapping onto the display. Do you need this?
  7. Hi! The only thing „repair related“ that I‘ve found is this webpage: https://web.archive.org/web/20160324091522/http://www.nakanocam.com/8mm_page/nalcomftlfilterr.html All other websites only have the owners manual: https://archive.org/search?query=nalcom http://www.mondofoto.com/manuals/ https://van-eck.net/?s=Nalcom&post_type=product&dgwt_wcas=1&lang=nl PRC doesn’t even have a Nalcom section: ? https://www.pacificrimcamera.com/rl/rlSankyoMisc.htm
  8. Hi! Maybe this has been answered before, but: What happens after cartridge 999? What happens when you are shooting a slo-mo scene where the camera doesn’t record sound? Will this also increase the scene counter so that the number of scenes on the film matches the numbers in the file-names? Or do they only count the scenes with recorded sound? What’s the actual recording format? (WAV is just a container that supports different formats, e.g. 16bit PCM with 44.1kHz sampling rate - or 48kHz or 96kHz.) Does the camera support stereo sound (if yes - via microphone or via line-in or via both)?
  9. Several websites claim that the first units were to be shipped on December 4th, e.g.: https://euro.eseuro.com/technology/1565315.html https://btw.media/kodaks-super-8-film-camera-will-be-available-in-december/
  10. Hi! Anybody received their Kodak S8 cam by now?
  11. Napoleon is the perfect example for the human nature: Give a human too much power and he/she will pretty soon turn from a genius into a villain (misusing the power, e.g. by turning a republic into a monarchy with yourself as head) and then into a wacko (being so obsessed by the power that he/she will do wacky things like trying to invade Russia or not staying on Elba). … If Nappi would have stayed in the throne a little bit longer, he would have probably appointed himself as a god (like the emperors of the Roman Empire). But let’s come back to the movie: as it’s reported to be not as bad as the trailer, I might probably watch it. ?
  12. I also don’t like the trailer as it shows Napoleon as a genius (while in reality he was just another wacko causing the death of millions of people, reigniting the rivalry between France and German that resulted in two world wars (together with other factors like the collapse of the Austrian Empire, …)) So: Is the movie as bad as the trailer? (Glorification of a wacko combined with brainless, brutal action scenes to make the TicToc-generation look up from their phones?) If yes: What’s next on Hollywood‘s plate? Adolf Hitler? Josef Mengele? Adrian Dietrich Lothar von Trotha?
  13. Don’t forget Cameron‘s „Titanic“! How long did it take the ship to finally collide with the iceberg? Yikes! (Just kidding!)
  14. As the aspect ratio of your images isn’t as wide as CS, but only slightly wider than 1:2, it could have also been 16mm or S8 with an attached Iscorama. … Or it’s a mix of 35mm-4perf-anamorphic and 35mm-2perf.

  16. Hi I just came back from a screening of „Casablanca“ (1942). And I simply love the movie as there are so many details and side-stories in it. After the screening, I had a little discussion with a friend who summarized it as lovestory between Rick and Ilsa. But isn’t the main topic the lovestory between Ilsa and Victor? Or is it the friendship between Rick and Sam or Rick and Louis? Or is it about helpless refugees being stuck somewhere? Or is it about Rick‘s way back to fighting the evil? Or is it about fighting the nazis (with everything else only being deception)? What do you think? (My opinion is that Casablanca is simply great because there’s no real answer to my question. And hence you can simply watch the movie all over again and again - being open to watch the film this time from a completely different point of view.)
  17. It depends on the devices and available filmstocks. E.g. Andec only offers „film out“ onto negative filmstock (and then doing a regular print - but only at HD and 2k): https://www.andecfilm.de/16mm/ausbelichtung-digitaler-daten-auf-16-mm.html But there‘s an Italian that can do the „film out“ directly onto 16mm (incl. optical soundtrack). He is using printstock. So he’s probably doing the inversion of the video on a computer. Some time ago, Pro8mm tested „film out“ onto E100D. But I forgot whether this was S8-only or also for 16mm. I also haven’t followed whether they have turned this into a regular service or not.
  18. ? Rotfl! So you would use a camera that produces nothing but rubbish only because it’s small and light?! ? Very professional! ? When you think that Super8 automatically results in bad images, then why are you participating in this thread at all? ?
  19. Yes, 90% of the flights over the pond will start/land in CDG. But there are also exceptions like in the attachment image. (According to some other pages, it should be an A350-900)
  20. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0060814/?ref_=ttspec_ov Paris brûle-t-il ? (1966)
  21. FYI: Paris has got two major international airports: Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Orly (ORY). So there’s no simple „take me to the airport“. ? And it’s 230V/50Hz (+/- 23V) in the EU (and hence also in Paris) since 2009. Not to mention that power plugs differ between France and the USA. ? In the last ten years, Paris took some major steps in becoming more „environment friendly“. Hence, several streets have been turned into one-way-streets for cars - with the remaining space getting turned into two-way-bicycle-paths. Some streets have even been completely turned into „bicycle only“ areas. So keep an eye on bicyclists when leaving/entering a car - they are now everywhere and will always come from all directions. ? Despite this, Paris is still a single traffic jam from 7a.m. until 10p.m.. So always plan some extra time for commuting between hotel and studio/set. Keep an eye on this website: https://www.cestlagreve.fr In France, there‘s always someone on strike. ? Good luck and have fun!
  22. For those who know the TV-series „Eisenbahn-Romantik“ (on the German channel „SWR“ - https://www.swrfernsehen.de/eisenbahn-romantik/index.html ) I have made this parody completely out of images/videos created by AI tools. Only the „editing“ was done manually (on my iPhone in less than 5min ?).
