  1. I just got a friend with a Canon xh-a1 and I want it to know if I could have any problems with my Varicam footage. The shoots that I need to shoot they look like stills but in motion, pretty much they are all location shots Thanks for all your help Best
  2. I hope I'm not double posting, but I need to shoot some B-roll for my upcoming film "the Waiting" and I only need 10 location shoots, please if you live in the bay area, HELP Best
  3. Hello Forum I 'm in deep poop. We shot this short on the Varicam, I got this really great package just for one day ( it was free) so I decided to shoot a simple script After the shoot and with the first cut I knew that I need it some little b-roll I only need one 10 location shots, that's it if you live in the Bay Area and can help me I will appreciated Thanks
  4. I love the birds to, great footage, It is a light leak.
  5. hahahaha, that's one of Tim Carroll's ex cameras, what a bastard! doing that
  6. I agree, I find the story pretty poor and the rest of the acting is regular, the cinematography is fair, well done, not great and breathtaking, but nicely done. So 6/10 for cinematography, 5/10 for the editing and sound 3/10 for the rest Best
  7. When I stated my comment "that's not true" it showed that there was a different reality from the one you showed, from people that YOU and Me respect, that do things differently. To me this post is informative and if I need to convert my mags also, I will do. But you said " I will trust Les blindly with camera work" well I don't I went to other people and they stated different things. I think the main reason you are fighting in this post is that I just said that your statement was not absolutely true, since there is a different reality out there about NPR MAGS, ( I don't know where you come with that example of the collimated lens, even a fool knows that's an unavoidable procedure) and since you only present that example I can take your statement valid. I thank you for explanation, and It will be taken in consideration, but again I stay where I'm at. careful is necessary in our business, and I'm pretty insane with my gear, but at the same time it kind of pisses me off if Les and all my other contacts tricked me into this, I hope not. Best
  8. Also, don't compare me as reckless, it is a passive aggressive insult, and I will not tolerate that, when I'm trying to establish my opinion I had done my research, pretty damn well I might say If the top NPR engineers had no problems, plus the users that I respect and work with, it is pretty fine by me. Now you are going to tell me that some people don't overblown conversions to Super 16 in terms of prices? now you are been naive. I went to the best guy in the biz to convert my cam, and consulted with him ( and others)for months about any kind of repercussions in my work , it all cleared Even I talk to Bernie to Laser Brighten my groundglass and make new markings taking that 1.33.1 off that I find so annoying, because my work is intended to go to the screen or HD. So to insinuated that I don't take my work or my gear seriously, and that I don't treated professionally, is a slap in the face that I won't take. Choose your words differently and the sarcasm keep it at home where it belongs, not in a here where people might have a different opinion and knowledge than yours
  9. Hey man is your pocket What John said has a lot of common sense, I even called a few techs today and they told me as they told me months ago, yes you won't have a problem Also I talk to 5 NPR users that had their cameras converted for more than 20 years the same way I have it, Never a problem... and they have cams from underwater kits to all terrain NPR's Again no problems It's about preference, in my opinion, feel pretty secure about that Best
  10. I see you live in teh Uk why you don't call Les and ask him his phone number is in his website Best
  11. You tell me then You trust Les Bosher as many people in here do, he told me and other techs that the conversions are not necessary for the mags, Now Following that I feel that the info they have given you is wrong, and since I have done some serious research before going in to the whole conversion dilemma, with other techs ( that you like to) i feel that my response is pretty well backed Sometimes technicians overblown things when it comes to their tables, make sure they are not doing that to you Also my NPR, is been shooting test and stuff and I had never a problem, NEVER. If not I will pissed to those that gave me wrong information or sold something in a different condition that they have promoted. I guess i'm cool so Hang in there!
  12. Honestly Michael I do not know, I'm not a technician, but Les told me, " don't send the mags, if they don't scratch then is not necessary" That's all I know, And I have friends that have their NPR'S converted with George and that happened the same to them Best
  13. Actually, that's not true Les Bosher in the UK and George Zorzoli ( from Optical Electro House) They modified NPR's to Super 16 without touching the magazines, if the mags don't scratch you will be fine. The NPR's mags are wide enough.... that's the explanation that they have given me Now if they did scratch I will be really pissed at them and/or whoever sold it to me. But that's not the case Best
  14. HE HE HE Tim, my man, I'm always looking for a great deal, once I buy I stay with that gear for a while, so I'm trying to find the best bet for me This looks great, and I been eying this lens for while. Anyhow Hopefully I can get it ps: when Paul converts the lens can he include a PL mount in that price? pss: hey I'm still wating for your call or email, for that piece that you sent me, if I get some normal instruccions I will be able to fix it myself Best
  15. Now Tim.... you see how you are? bad man! hehe Yes I'm definitely thinking about this lens, the only think is they told me that breathes a little bit. Hey they shot Primer on this lens, and that looked great. Thanks Tim hopefully I could get it in a few weeks
  16. I would think, that you should compromise a little bit on the shooting and record sound right there on the spot anyway, it will give you, not only a point of reference, but more natural sound to the scene. I was just commenting with a friend of mine, ( we are both producing an urban sci fi feature length in Argentina next year), how sound is so cheap on mid level production, because people re dub their entire picture in post and they take the natural element out of it. Sound is as important to a film as it's image, my advice to you, don't go separate ways, most of the time, if not all the time, that end's up in a disaster. Best ps: if you are going to mention Rodriguez and "El Mariachi", that still is a wrong example, he recorded separate, yes, both he re did the scene in the same place, so the sound was in it's natural environment , plus Columbia put some major cash afterwards to fix it. ps2: If I were you I will lower my shooting ratio, to 3:1 (270 min) that's pretty confi to shoot, just rehears for a whole month ( or more) before hand.
  17. Hello Mr Jannard I have been following the great success that your product has been producing for the past few months, is incredible what the camera can do. First and for most thank you very much for opening the pallet of opportunities for us filmmakers The Reason that I'm sending you this message is about the Argentine inventor Hugo Zuccarelli and his invention Holophonics?, a new native technique for 3d sound, working directly from the microphone you could create intense multidimensional sonic sequences right there on the spot ( on camera or external recorders), no mixing, no post production required, you can record mono( or what ever you desire) and you will have a sound that will make THX primitive. I represent Mr Zucarelli here in the USA (California), and after commenting with him about the Red One, he suggested to show his inventions to you, since he is in the market right know to sell his patents (We have plans to offer it to Apple, Microsoft, Sony, Panasonic, etc), but we both feel that your product and your company stands in a more cutting edge position, a revolutionary progress that will open new ways for every creative mind, Exactly what we stand for. Mr Zuccarelli not only has invented this new microphones, but also has the Loud Speakers?, a set of sound monitors with no distortion what so ever, that can emulate the 3D sound better than any monitor out there, and they are also directional. As well a set of new headphones, that enhances the 3D experience. I know that you are in the process of releasing the camera, and I didn't want to bother you until that was done, but again, I feel ( as well as Mr Zuccarelli), that your company will be the perfect home for Holophonics?, I mean, just imagine the power that you will be giving Filmmakers out there, a 4k camera with accessories that can make ( not emulate) 3D sound, that will be the cherry on top, and in my own personal opinion this is a huge opportunity for whoever acquires this Technology. I hope my english wasn't a disaster, I will love to send you examples of Holophonics?, or have a meeting with you to demonstrate this technology. I know you will become obsessed with it, Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Steve Vai, and others were to. Best Regards Martín Yernazian pyrotecnia@gmail.com ps: thanks for your time, and again, thanks for this great camera, I know that my technique Digital Cross Process? will do wonders with it.
  18. I just saw the game, Argentina France ( we won yeah!!!!) and during the game it struck me, WOW look at a ll the shots they have, they look like a fictional event, not a real game, when I sudden realize..... well they are shooting on 24p.... what made the whole event even more magical, since France was the favorite and Argentina kick their little French culo ( just kidding!) So 10 points for the French broadcasters, that is a great move from their part Best
  19. Dude that's a nice camera!!!! I wish I could shoot my feature on that next year but my budget is of only 20k, so Super 16 it is, ( I already have the cam and Lenses and gear in Argentina is Dirt cheap for rentals) But great Work Jim and the REd Team.... great cam, After my other one I wish I could buy one and work some projects with it My Best
  20. I'll use them, they are sharp, they are fast, the best idea is for you to try them... pretty much Best
  21. True, That's my point, why I can just try and see what happens? I feel people Are afraid of trying , and even worse they are afraid of failing, Well in this Bussiness is what it's all about! I don't care if Any Big DP tells me , oh don't try that I know is wrong.... welll I will listen, But I'm still going to try, because I want to experience the same things that he went throught, or maybe I will go in a different new direction, who knows? That's the magic of it! Best ps: I will love to see the short, even if you put a white letter mark in teh middle of it ( to protect your ass) I will love to see it I'm really obsess with color, contrast and definition= texture, I planing this feature in the next year and I'm planning some really unique looks Thanks Again
  22. Dude, those are some cool images!!! they look pretty sharp, even with the back focus issue
