  1. I wasn't going to post this one, but since Richard posted one so easy...
  2. After Mark and David, I feel like I need to step up the difficulty factor, BUT in the meantime I'll keep within this theme...
  3. I'll check that out for sure. I've said this before, but now that I have my projector set up I'm revisiting many movies I missed in theaters throughout the years. Looks like there's a director's cut of "Nixon". Have you seen that version? I recently watch the director's cut of "Alexander" and I thought it was much better than the movie I saw in theaters. Character's actions made much more sense when they put scenes back in the movie that they cut for the theatrical version.
  4. Shoot, I was going to say "Nixon". I haven't actually seen "Nixon" and I haven't seen "JFK" in a really long time, so it was 50/50. Although with all the mixed media Oliver Stone was known for in the 90's, I wouldn't have been surprised if you said, "Natural Born Killers". Is it "Nixon"?
  5. So if that's something someone is watching on TV then it's probably one of his "period" movies, but an era when people had televisions, so... that narrows it down to about 9 or 10 options. It's obviously not "The Aviator." It's not "Shutter Island," or "The Doors," or any of Quentin Tarantino's movies. I can only guess... JFK?
  6. While everyone is figuring out those last two frames, I'll put up something a lot easier. Another great movie I recently caught up with....
  7. I can't believe it's eleven years old. Both of your pics are tough. Not making it easy :)
  8. Here's a hint for you all with another opening image...
  9. I know, but it's one of my favorites because it's so full of visual exposition.
  10. Yessir. Sidney Lumet is one of my favorite director's too.
  11. Luv this thread... This is one of my favorite openings, because it sums up the character so well...
  12. Try being a director... Agency We're doing an ice cream commercial. Do you have any ice cream on your reel? Me Yes. Peppermint? Yes. Low fat? Uh, no I guess. Sorry, we're going with the Russo brothers. What did they do? "Captain America." "Captain America" had low fat peppermint ice cream in it? No, but it's awesome.
  13. Shake'n up the line up... http://www.slashfilm.com/oscars-race-controversy/
  14. I think this point is getting lost in the conversation. Making a good movie is really hard. Forget the performances, cinematography and VFX. Writing a good script is really hard. Even a master filmmaker like Ridley Scott is capable of making a less than good movie, but not because he doesn't care, but because MAKING A GOOD MOVIE IS REALLY, REALLY, HARD. Tyler, you seem to think all filmmakers are equal in capability, therefore framing them in two categories; caring filmmaker = good, and not caring filmmaker = bad. That's just not how filmmaking works. Making a movie requires thousands of decisions simply based on your personal instinct, but we're all different, and unfortunately human beings are a flawed group and are quite capable of making wrong decisions now and again. That certainly doesn't mean they don't care. Frances Ford Coppola will probably be the first to tell you his later career wasn't all he hoped it to be, but watch any interview with him about any of his latest movies and there's no doubt he cares. Trouble is, MAKING A GOOD MOVIE IS REALLY HARD. MAKING A GOOD MOVIE IS... you get the point.
  15. But you have to admit that none of your opinions are based on any personal experience in filmmaking that is anything close to the level of filmmaking you're criticizing?
  16. Right on, thanks Jay. It was a lot of fun. They actually made a DCP file and screened it in a theater which was also a ton of fun.
  17. Another kind of funny thing about this whole process is how some people react to this little movie completely different than they've ever reacted to any other movie I've made. For instance, some of my family was mesmerized by this. Not even grandkids could break their attention. But most of my little personal projects aren't of much interest, ... Just a point of reference
