  1. Hi, cannot download the technical data, any problem kodaks end or is it my steam driven pooter? Available in the UK yet? Andy
  2. Think you may need an 85 not 85b. (16mm k40, use it before you loose it)
  3. Was the kodachrome I you transferred daylite or tungstan balance. It makes a lot of difference if were daylite stock. I have some 16mm kodachrome I, image colour and quality easily beats modern 16mm k40. I have used 8mm, ds-8 and 16mm k25, in every case k25 daylite stock completely blows the k40 equivalent stock away. I have mentioned this before while i am forced to use k40 as there is no k25. K25 was the finer grained filmed with better colour saturation and to my eyes a lot sharper. Colud it be you are comparing k40 with a daylite kodachrome stock. I do agree my 1985 k40 sound footage appears to have less grain. Though recent footage thru the leicina and 7008 with 6-80 look amazingly grain free, but canon 310xl footage does look more grainy.
  4. this post is now 5 days old and no replies, does no one shoot 16mm k40 or am i living in the past?? I believe k40 will be dead within 18months, does any one out there have any longer dated k40 than 3/2006?? You can see why kodak want rid of the film if there are so few shooters of the film out there.
  5. My opinion is, Use it as a book end and get a known working camera. You can usually pick elmo's up quite cheaply.
  6. Sparky, you are right, learnt two things tonight, just tested the zeiss MS8 and i can confirm it does read the new 64T stock, tried a k40 cartridge followed by the 64t cartridge. Auto exposure did close the iris down by 2/3 stop. Then i dug out a manual for the moviflex s8, instruction manual says the camera can read film speeds from 10 to 100 asa. BTW, I have a moviflex S8 aswell as a MS8, my S8 iris is sticky and slow can you repair it?????? Andy
  7. Hi, sorry its a Moviflex MS8 not GS8........ mine has the 9-36, primitive looking cine camera, but delivers the results. Thanks again David.
  8. You lot are amazing, never fail to find something new every day. My gripe with my GS8 was unable to manually expose, i always held the rotating iris wheel to lock the exposure. However, i have just tried the cable release and you can manually adjust the exposure. I suppose it would help if i was to read an instruction manual once in a while. Wonderfull piece of info, thanks for that 'uoliwils' . I have mentioned before, it has an amazing 9-36 zeiss lens, blows the canons away. I assume it cannot read the 64t stock? Andy
  9. Hi Rob, thanks for that link, i must pass that place once maybe twice a week en route to my office in Caterham. Will check it out next week, shame there's no price list online. Andy
  10. Hi, having used a couple of 400ft loads of 100D 16mm film, i found the saturation OTT, will kodak ever offer a less saturated version or say a 50 asa version. I think kodak once offered 50asa for the 35mm stills market, could this be released or a more mordern 100asa film in the super 8 or 16mm market?
  11. One thing i noticed with the leicina special and beaulieu cameras is that when the 85 wratten filter is swung out of the optical path, it is replace by another a clear wratten filter. I assume this keeps the back focus of the lens to the excact distance to the film plane. Other makes of camera do not seem to do this. Therefore is the back focus of other makes of camera a compromise. I was always been lead to believe that you can spot back focus problems when the lens is wide or nearly wide open and the lens is at its widest angle ( image goes soft). If other makes of camera do not replace one filter with another you have to ask yourself why does the leicina and beaulieu. Is this why the leicina performs better at 1.8 compared to other makes of camera??????
  12. Hi, seem to recall we've had this discussion on another site. Seem to recall booster images were of high contast, ALL my late 1014xls and current 814xls go soft in low contrast lite. I would not of sold the canon1014xls in favour of the special and 7008 if the canon lens performed better in low light.
  13. Hi Matt, send me a message, no response from the other chap. You are welcome to them. Andy
  14. Santo your comments mirror my experiance exactly with with canon cameras going soft. My 814xls is awfull from F4-1.4. Though my late 1014xls was a little better but not much. The best zoom lens i have so far used wide open at f1.8 is the schneider 6-66, much, much better than the canon at 1.8. Canon lenses do give a great image on a sunny day , but struggle when the subject is low in contrast. That said about the canon lenses i too recommend the 814xls, purchased mine brand new in march 1985 and still going strong to this day.
  15. Hi, having just recieved 15 rolls from kodak with an expiry date of march 2006 i am getting a little concerned that we may not have this stock around for much longer. Are there any users of 16mm k40, if so what is the expiry date on the box. The only k40 i have seen with a longer date is double super 8 which i think was 8/2006. Andy
  16. Its ashame bauer opted not to have a variable shutter for the fade and disolve facilities on the 715xl. Just read that manual which was posted, appears that the camera can only read 40 and 160 stock, therefore 64T will be overexposed when using auto exposure with the 715xl.
  17. Hi, once had a 715xl, image was very stable , thought it was an excellent camera, i sold it very cheap but thats another story. Stock up on k40 and get used to using manual exposure, i understand that the 715xl cannot read the new 64t stock. Unless someone know different?. You could try oldtimer cameras for a manual, not sure how much they charge though. http://www.oldtimercameras.com/ Andy
  18. Hi Rob, if its any use i have three 200 ft daylite spools along with there 200ft cans. Obviously you will need to load your filmstock onto them, and ask for lab to return the reels back after processing, anyway you are welcome to them just send me a message. Andy
  19. Which will have the greater resolving power 7205 or 7217? BTW, thank you everyone for your replies Andy ps, will 7201 be available by December 1st in the UK?
  20. Hi, i downloaded one from filmshooting.com, some time back for the 6008 pro, covers probably everything you need to know as i used it for my late 6008 and current 7008, its on a winzip file if that means anything to you ( anything to do with computors goes straight over my head ). I can forward it to you, send me a private message if your interested. Andy
  21. Hi, not sure the cost of the 64t, stock only arrived today, invoice will arrive tomorrow or thursday. I have an 85b for the 6-66, say whats the filter size of the cinegon????????
  22. Hi, i am no expert here, but as a guess your stock must be at least 10-15 years old, also guessing here, mag stripe will be in the area that the super 16 frame covers, so you can only shoot normal 16 and not super 16. Its probably in 360 ft lengths due to the added thickness of the mag stripe.Andy
  23. Hi, just received my first cartridges of the new 64t ( purchased direct from kodak uk ), plan to expose them in the next two weeks or sooner. Can someone advise me where to get the stuff processed. Prefer a quality lab in Europe, shipping to the USA is a problem due to export duties etc. Andy ps, why is there no exp date on the filmstock???????
  24. Hi, i have been advised that the manufacturing of all kodachrome stocks has finished. Kodak are just using up existing stocks from cold storage, once gone there will be no more kodachrome. I emailed kodak on whether the Swiss lab was closing, that was nearly two weeks ago and no response. During the winter months i stock pile 16mm k40, will i be able to get the film processed after next year?. Someone in kodak must know when/if the lab in Switzerland is closing and whether Kodachrome has a future, will 16mm k40 or even 35mm k64 still be around in 2 years time. Andy
  25. Thanks for the replies, if i am lucky enough and the sun shines will shoot either 50D, or ( vision2 50D if its available ) or 125T. I dont mind what stop i shoot at, will be looking for an exposure reading from T2-T8. Footage will be newsreel/run and gun, so not much time to think. Can i use an 85 filter and ND filter together?. Sorry for a stupid question, as i already mentioned, i 98% of the time shoot kodachrome. Thanks again
