  1. What I find more interesting is the fact that more and more commercials are huge budget productions, with up to 5 minute length. I don't really understand why though. Very few people will watch a commercial for more than a minute, unless it's VERY well written and shot. Do the production companies pitch this to make more money?
  2. Good evening guys. Well, at least it's evening over here. I have run into a few smaller issues while finishing some films, and I am thinking that involving the customer during edits might make the prosess go smoother. I guess I am late at realizing this is a normal way of doing things? How are these things normalt done? Another thing that pops into my mind with this. How much of the creative process should the customer have a say in? All input is as usual very welcome. Thanks!
  3. I think experience, connections, and in film, a portfolio, trumps pretty much everything.
  4. Exactly. There is nothing wrong with going to school, but with the time and money spent on that, one could actually achieve quite a bit in the field, if one is actually ready for that. As for your previous lines; that makes a whole lot of sense!
  5. There won't be enough people to demand such a product for it to be set into production again.
  6. There is a pool scene, so maybe from like 10 feet and into the pool?
  7. Macro shots of different glassobjects hit with lights. Then use those shots as separate layers with different blending modes. I think that could be interesting.
  8. I think working as a DP is too narrow of a job for beginners. Nor do I think looking for a country where filmmaking is huge, is smart. I work out of a little place in Norway, with good connections to other cities. Pretty much noone does filmmaking here. There are a FEW companies doing it, but they are usually too expensive for the smaller businesses. Now, I had a benefit of having experience from sales, which is a huge factor when selling your product to companies. Just being comfortable picking up the phone and cold-calling. Is there room for me to hire DP, Sound assistance, AC and myself directing at a $500-2000 budget? Definitely not, so I am usually doing this with me and sometimes 1-2 people helping out with different stuff. My plan for now, is to do this and build a brand name. Starting in the city where i live, and expanding into other cities in Norway. This allows me to grow as a filmmaker, slowly invest in equipment and after a while, hopefully hire another person to do projects with me. Keep in mind, to do this, I quit a full-time job as a sales manager and scrapped my living expenses to a bare minimum. It's so worth it though, as I get to work with something I am passionate about!
  9. You will get practically no shake using the motorized gimbals if you use a decent operator. My brother used the Ronin M on a shot for the first time, where he ran after the actor, and there was no shake. As for having the actor in the middle of the shot, you just need a camera operator that knows what he is doing.
  10. It sounds very doable. Depends on how long you want the shot to be though.
  11. Ye, it's here in Norway. I wouldn't call it big, but maybe 40-50 square meters, so at least its not cramped. Here is a view of the area, with some test lighting set up.
  12. Thanks for you comments! I have already been over at the location set, and the room has quite some space for placing the lights. For now, I only have access to the 3k and 5k dinos, with dimming of course. We are setting this up with actors, so the heat wont be a problem, and the chef is a nice guy as well. How would you typically shoot this, as the chef is moving around a lot?
  13. So, I just got a gig where I'm shooting a sushi chef making sushi, and there is mainly focus on showing the food. There will be a lot of close-ups and macro shots. I believe we are going for a high-key type of lighting. There is some ambient lighting from downlights in the ceiling, but it's far from enough. I have access to fresnels and dinos. Would something like what I have sketched down work, or should I go about it another way? Keep in mind the 85mm might be moved from side to side a bit. Thanks!
  14. I'm gonna try to give you some constructive criticism here. The camera shakes way to much for a piece like this. It should be on a gimbal or steadycam. The sound was a bit weird, and the laughter just didn't fit in at all. If you are going with laughter, at least it has to sound good. It can't cut like that. I like the location, but I feel like you could have utilized it more.
  15. You'll need MagicLantern software which has focusmarkers, and preferably a monitor, which will make the whole operation easier. It's usually about having the right tools for the job. Well, that or 15 takes, to get one usable.
  16. I really enjoy videos like this. I work on low-budget sets, and stuff like this really just drives me to do even better work, and also inspires me. It's incredible to see how elaborate the sets are, and how it's actually done. If you know of any good behind the scenes like this, feel free to share.
  17. I'm a long time Sony Vegas user as well. I mostly use Color Balance and Color Corrector for grading. Are there features inside Da Vinci that will make the grading easier or better? And so, would the correct path be; footage into da vinci, and then Vegas for edit?
  18. Wouldn't it be easier to just move the camera forward and pull focus?
  19. Honestly, people have no manners in the theatre, so I usually prefer to watch films in my private theatre. People are eating crisps, talking and using their cellphones. It's ridiculous really.
  20. Definitely, although I was a bit disappointed as I read the book first.
  21. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1758810/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 So this is a film I have been looking forward to since it was announced. It is originally a book by Jo Nesbo, writer of Headhunters[2011]. Directed by Tomas Alfredson and shot by Dion Beebe. Fassbender is playing the lead role as Harry Hole, and Martin Scorsese is also producing the picture. I really hope it catches the sense of the book, which is brilliant. One will just have to wait and see. The film is shooting in Oslo as we speak, and will be released 2017.
