  1. Wow! Ive been an eminem fan since he first came out and seeing behind the scenes stuff in the final product is priceless hahaha. I didnt even notice that flag before. Thanks Mr. Frisch thanks for sharing.
  2. Mark! Thank you very much for all the information. I love false color but unfortuately, it doesnt work correctly with my smallhd 502 monitor when lut is enabled. That's exactly what i thought too I had to turn off all the lights to watch it properly.
  3. Well here is what i came up with. Just for fun. Wife shot the whole thing for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj5grNCSEgU&feature=youtu.be
  4. I just hate how youtube kills lowlight videos. I get a lot of artifacts and blockiness when i upload.
  5. If if i were to shoot raw could could i change the ISO from 800 to 400 to lose 1 stop and 800 to 200 2 stops instead of using luts with -1 and -2? Since iso is just meta data i can just expose at 800 but change to 400 or 200 to see how it looks?
  6. When referencing key stops do you consider Key at around 60-70IRE?
  7. Hello! Thank you so much. I am just downloading screens and studying them in davinci resolve. It seems that I have to buy a lot of flags to flag off spills i don't want.
  8. Team, How does one get something like this without the darkest part of the scene get artifacts? I am trying to copy this lighting for a short skit but the blacks are getting such horrible artifacts. I light and turn it down in post. Sorry for my english. http://kissthemgoodbye.net/horrors/albums/theconjuring/The__Conjuring_2013_kissthemgoodbye_0406.jpg
  9. No way. I didnt know a third edition existed and you cowrote it. THANKS!
  10. Mr. Mullen thank you once again. When are you writing a book? Would love to read it. Very nice examples. That makes so much sense now. I think i might be misusing my grey card. What I usually do is record the greycard in front of the actors face then make that neutral in post by adjusting raw wb and tint and then add my taste of color afterwards. Its difficult sometimes to white balance without a greycard especially when using output 3d luts for they have built in color. How does the pros do it? Record in raw, have an onset monitor with 3dlut capability, light the scene so that they will get exactly what they see then in post use the same lut they used in the monitor on set?
  11. Good morning! I am currently reading the "Cinematography: Theory and Practice: Image Making for Cinematographers and Directors" and came across information I cannot quite understand. The book says that "the proper way to shoot a gray card reference is as follows. For a tungsten lit scene, position the gray card so it fills all or most of the frame. Have your gaffer light it with a unit that is near 3200 kelvin. The light should cover the card as evenly as possible with a single light." What would be the point of using the gray card as reference if you arent using the lights/environment of your scene and is using a separate light to light the gray card? Am I missing something? I want to learn how to shoot the gray card in the scene so that i can use it as reference later in davinci. Apologize for my english I am foreign. Thank you.
  12. Right but how do i know if i got it right? Will it just stay still. Meaning not go up or fall down? Thank you so much.
  13. Checked google, youtube and steadicam forum for a bit. Does anyone know where I can find some information regarding how much spring tension I am suppose to have in my stabilizer vest arm? Came tv vest doesnt have a manual so I am trying to seek help in forums. Thank you in advance.
  14. Great point. I am still debating whether to back light the guy standing by the door. Directly behind him is a garage and I want to keep the door open during the conversation. I might also try your idea of having blinds installed in the window to give that pattern onto the actor and wall.
  15. I will try. Hopefully its plenty enough light. Thank you all.
  16. I would love to be able to show the window to show off like a shaft of light coming down. I will have movements but just slider in and out.
  17. Hellow Mr. Mullen thank you for the reply. I am planning to make it seem like my actors are being lit by the moon punching through the window. I was planning on only using one light but I might have to supplement it since its only 2k equivalent. Thank you again.
  18. Hello. It's going to be a night scene. I have 35mm and 50mm for the lens. Ursa mini 4K for the camera. I apologize i meant 2k equivalent LED. here is the updated diagram. I am also planning on using a fog machine to get some light shaft from the window if possible. How would you key this scene from the inside of the room?
  19. Hello good people! I have a simple scene that takes place in a laundry room that involves two actors. My original plan is as shown in this amazing diagram of mine. My question is, do you think that one light would look good enough to key the actor sitting by the window? I really want it to look as dramatic as possible so I was thinking of only using one light. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Also the room is not as big as I drew. Its a smaller room so I cannot bring in anything big. Sorry for my english also. I am foreign.
  20. Question Matt. Why not just use a smaller diffusion since you arent really using the entire diffusion as shown. Wouldnt that be easier? Wouldnt you still get the same result?
  21. Wow thank you all for the quick response. Will something like this work also? Its a diffuser + grid. http://www.fjwestcott.com/scrim-jim-cine-4-x-4-1-4-stop-grid-cloth-diffuser
  22. Is there a way on how to block light without having to buy a lot of stands for the flags? I want to achieve dramatic low key lighting without having 10-15 stands for flags. Thanks
