  1. Going off that footage posted, if you actually get that result and the glass isn't damaged in some glaring way, 100 euro is a steal.
  2. I recently shot a mini mockumentary without any narration, titles, anything. Simply the interviewee's words carrying the short. Which is what I see in a lot of other documentaries, not so much a narrator saying the story, but having the story told through multiple eyewitnesses. For my short I had some questions prepared and told the actor to "answer every question as a statement" to avoid dry yes/nos. Is this the standard way of doing it? I'd assume you don't flip on the camera and expect them to talk for 40 minutes off of one question. What are some methods you find working for conducting documentary interviews? As always, thanks.
  3. Get the major in business. If a talent/connections based industry doesn't work out for you as a talent, a business degree goes a lot farther than a film degree.
  4. Led me to believe Maggie starring Schwarzenegger was shot entirely on Blackmagic pocket cameras.
  5. Any one of those larger theaters would've been screening it. It says you live in NJ on your profile they had every single one screening in Elizabeth and New Brunswick. Movietickets.com was showing the spots were somewhat common compared to what you'd expect. The one thing I recall about the Potter movies is when David Yates took over for the final 4 titles, the overall aesthetic vision within the shots was stepped WAY up. Glad to see they're moving a check his way for the two spin-offs. Anyone else have a take on Yates' work?
  6. Has anyone else gone out this weekend to take in some magical cinematography on the big screen for a second time? Cuaron shooting 14-24mm for the entire picture set a fantastic vibe like the audience is really there on a screen that huge. I checked out the third one of the series and was glad to view a new-age classic on an IMAX level screen. The only cons were that the speakers were set 10 dBs too loud and that everything was DCP even for the older pictures originally put out on 35mm. It'd be nice if they made a yearly/bi-yearly thing out of this. Or simply did it to promote every new HP spinoff.
  7. The scene's context would help, going off of your drawing that'd come off as a close-up to me.
  8. My anxiety is why I weigh 400 pounds by shooting up ketchup

  9. Like with how you're supposed to compress before you EQ audio, is there a proper order for color grading involving lights/darks before colors? or vice versa? Thanks.
  10. I would suggest switching your boom mic to something by Sennheiser to do your visual film efforts more justice. Are you just shooting 24?
  11. In a very tight spot and need 128gb inside my BMPCC tomorrow. I've been reduced to Wal-Mart, as I don't live in a media friendly area, and they only have a single 128gb mini SD card. Obviously it comes with an adapter, but I was just curious if there are any drawbacks/risks with just using a mini card that aren't immediately apparent? It's able to get up to 80mb/s which isn't ideal but I can make it work. Thanks.

I've never been a fan of Canon's C series image look. If you're primarily working documentaries then I'd say stick with the C300, nice easy to use body. Need filmic punch? Get the RED.
  13. I was trying Google, and every time I see something promising; it turns out it was closed down 5 years ago. You ever been to 17th street Photo?
  14. I find myself having to visit family in Queens every other week. Was in serious need of something to do in this borough other than eating pizza and basketball. But yeah, title says it all. Lesser side question: If this borough is empty, does it at least have a vinyl record shop or something? Thanks NewYork-zoners.
  15. I favor video form factors strictly for the ergonomics and button placement. Feels like I'm manning the mothership as opposed to a DSLR lol.
  16. I go out in public wearing hulk hands wondering why my wife left me

  17. Yeah Sony F3 is amazing for the price of 2 grand flat.
  18. You're a god, been waiting for a free resource center like this for years. Will this be a "fashion never finished" sort of deal where lenses keep getting added to the selection?
  19. Was just searching around, this is an awesome blog post. Thank you.
  20. Not exactly sure what your budget is, but I've seen a couple documentaries shot entirely on Canon L Series Zooms and they looked in credible for what they were. The shots in this with a bit more sunlight really stuck out to me.
  21.   Yeah but what is the "why" behind this, though?
  22. I started noticing this as the Star Wars prequels were coming out. Is it just me, or has the last 15 years seen an increase of British actors switching their accents for American roles? Has this always been going on and just made more prevalent now that media is in front of our finger tips more than ever? If not, why is this shift occurring? Also I don't notice an equal amount of American actors switching up for British roles. Does anyone have an explanation for this phenomenon or is it all in my insane head?? Thanks.
