  2. Hi, the shutter diameter in a camera is fixed because its principal job is block the light in a film when it´s transported, if you reduce its diameter the light can introduce in the film with disastrous results. shutters only can change in degree, Arri S is fixed at 180º.
  3. Hi, i´m trying to explain you the problem with my "indian" english Foma R100 is a great stock very sharpness and contrastly. I had a lot of problems like you. I always develop foma films myself with lomo tanks. some months ago I used the foma chemistry kit to develop the film. The first develops were great but the sencond, third, etc I had very problems like a dark or very dark films. the mainly problem is the second step THE BLEACH, you only can use it once, if you use it two or three times you only get black films. I don´t know why, but the the bleach only works the first time, forget to reuse. The developer, cleaner and fix can be used more times but the bleach only once. Due to the bleach problem, I always must purchase a lot of chemistry kits to develop some film. I archive the chemistry to make the bleach (go to foma web and you can get the composition) so I can use the developer-cleaner and fix many times. other advice is, the bleach and clean step you always remove the liquid. If you don´t remove the bleach step you can archieve a "beautiful" brown stain in the hightlights
  4. Yes, just shoot aiming to the sun and make sure that you have a good bounce to light the shadows.

  8. Hi I´m owner of a Aaton LTR 7 converted to Super 16 (serial nº C 954). I need to service this camera because it has some focus issues. I made a focus chart test with cooke 10,4-55, zeiss superspeed 12, 16, 25mm. zeiss 50mm. kinoptic 9 mm. and nikon still lenses (85 and 135 mm) all the test was shot at T. 2 except cooke zoom lens at 2.8 T. I focused with tape and in the viewfinder the image appeared sharp, but the image exposed is out of focus, the image is focused around 6 -8 cm. before where i placed the measure. I suppose that the depth (flange/focal distance) is wrong, so I need to service the camera. Any advices? Where can I send the camera (europe) to service it? thanks a lot.

  12. Hi Federico, your budget is low to go to 16mm camera. In ebay there are lots of K3 at this price but think that you must buy 16mm and process film (more expensive than S8 mm) There are great super 8 cameraas at your price range (I suggest you the Nikon R10 or canon 10014 XL-S) some in very good condition and if you shoot with Vision 200T or 500T films you can get a very great quaility of your s8 films. My suggest is, go to S8, learn and when you have more money and experience go to 16mm. Where are you (i´m in spain) ?

  14. I love DS8 is a great format. 30 m (100 ft) give us 5 min so is a very friendly time. I think that is a great new, thanks to the efforts to A:Cam guys. One thing is a converted Bolex H8 and other is a new camera. Ok both can deliver great images but i don´t think that a rental equipment shop or a serious production go to ebay to find a "like a new" and "cheap" coverted bolex, pathe or Canon DS8. This is just my opion. If I´m wrong, why arri make the new 416 S16 cam if there are lots os NPR, ACL, SR,BL. LTR cams in ebay?

  17. I just worked with this cam this weekend (DP of a short film) i shot mostly interiors with tunsgsten lights. iris was around 2 - 2.8 and i made some test and the ISO rating was 250 ISO, but this is only for orientation, if you want to find the correct exposure check a Waveform monitor or DV Rack software. Good luck

  21. Well HD is easy, you don´t carry lots of 16mm cans, load, telecine, etc. HD is a easy way. long tapes and can be edited fastly, but S16 is a beautifull way to archieve great images for movies, docs, etc i love S16, but HD is easy, simply
  22. If you shoot outdoor don´t forget about Pola filter, you archieve more saturated colors (sky) and less reflections. Go to a very wide iris to get shallow deep fied. study your background colors with lot of primary colors.
