May I ask where you got this carrying strap from? I have been looking for a strap like this for my 16ST for quite some time now, but I only come across straps that look way weaker.

So I got a set (8, 16, 25, 50) of Zeiss standard speed lenses for my Arriflex 16 ST. They are in great condition, but I guess the grease for the focus movement needs to be renewed. Has anyone here ever done this? Also, does anyone know what kind of grease should be used? Maybe some kind of molybdenum (MoS2) grease? I would also appreciate any hints on how the focus mechanism has to be disassembled. I think it should not be that complicated/risky, as it just moves the whole lens assembly back and forth.

It is probably not what you are looking for, but I would consider building something yourself. I just re-fitted my dead 8.4V battery pack with a 11.1V LiPo battery and a DC-DC step-down converter. This gives me a super stable output of 8.4V. Which is important to me, as I have the variable speed motor which is quite sensitive to voltage variations.

Just to add some information: One observation of mine is that the original ARRI crystal sync motor seems to be the only one that has this feature where it always stops in the viewing position.

Thanks, thats good to know that these original ones are actually usable! I've seen pictures of both but right now there are none for sale (at least not for a reasonable price) where I live. The trigger handle is also a feature that I did not know about till now, but that makes it really interesting to me. I guess there are no third-party handles that did implement this?

So I am looking for some form of (affordable) shoulder support for my 16ST. I know the original one which is basically a metal bar. While I have never used that one, it kind of looks more like a torture device to me... I have seen people put it on rails, but I don't know if that is a bit too much? My main focus is keeping it portable. Thanks for all kinds of suggestions!

Thanks a lot for this amazing writeup! ? You do mention two different kinds of grease: 'Arri's "special grease" Isoflex LDS 18/05' and 'Molykote G-n paste'. But I do not find any reference later on on what grease gets used where. I guess the Isoflex is for the claw movement? Would be great if you could clarify on that!

I hope it is ok to dig out such an old thread, but I have been re-waching El Mariachi recently. I wonder if Rodriguez used a S16 conversion or if he just cropped the image (I assume the latter). What I also noticed watching the Blu-ray: The image seems to jump every few seconds (in a lot of shots, not all of them though). Was there some registration issue with the camera?
