  1. WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. (May 23, 2016) - Panavision, the entertainment industry's leading designer, manufacturer and rental provider of high-precision optics and camera systems, has announced the availability of PanaND filters. Representing the next-generation neutral density filters, they offer significant improvements in quality and consistency, so filmmakers can focus on achieving their creative goals. Full spectrum PanaND filters benefit from advancements in materials and manufacturing to deliver color neutrality very accurately. "Until now, cinematographers using traditional ND filters to control exposure have always had to deal with color shifting and optical performance degradation," says Haluki Sadahiro, Panavision's director of new product development. "Unlike traditional filters, PanaNDs are made with the highest quality glass and advanced coating technologies. As a result, they are truly neutral - cutting the light without altering the color temperature." PanaND filters are available in a wide range of options from 1 to 7 stops in 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8 and 2.1ND, and come in 4x5.65 and 6x6-inch sizes. The filters feature a sturdier construction and patent-pending tactile markings so users can quickly identify the depth of the ND filter in the dark. "PanaND filters are another example of Panavision's close collaboration with filmmakers that goes back 60 years," says Sadahiro. "Our focus on motion picture production allows us to better understand the needs and methods of cinematographers. Supporting them with the right tools and unparalleled service is our passion." Compatible with film and digital cameras, PanaND filters can be rented from any Panavision facility around the world. For more information, visit www.Panavision.com.

  6. Hi everybody! From my general understanding usually for 35mm lenses the sweet spot of the lens is usually 2 stops down from the widest aperture. I wanted to know if anamorphic lenses have the same features or where the sweet spot of the lens usually is. Thanks in advance!
  7. This would be a amazing lens for the RED 2K, Blackmagic Pocket Camera, Digital Bolex or S16 film camera. The glass has no scratches, coating marks, cleaning marks and is in perfect condition. Mechanically, the lens is very solid and smooth all the way around. It' a Arri B mount that can be adapted to any other mount. This lens was converted to Super16mm by OPTEX, which is considered the best in the industry. The Cooke 10.8 - 60mm was the Super16mm equivalent of the Cooke 9-50mm zoom. This lens is known for these exceptional qualities: - This Cooke lens "breaths" very, very little, so there is no image shift when focusing (the Zeiss 10-100mm was known to breath, and wasn't well regarded in that manner). The Cooke has complete internal focusing, so the outer barrel does rotate or shift upon focus. - This Cooke lens has a close focus of 1.6 ft, which means you can focus a few inches from the front of the lens. This is opposed to many zoom lenses that have a close focus of 5 ft. - But perhaps the best feature of theses Cooke Zooms (compared say something like a Zeiss lens), is in regards to using them with digital sensors. It has the "Cooke look" , which is much kinder on the skin of the actors. It also really helps to take the harsh digital edge off of the digital sensor image, and many feel this is why it feels more 'filmic'. The lens is in perfect shape and has been verified one year ago by an Aaton specialist in Montreal. Since, it has been use only once for a fiction film. Everything works as it should. It's been used with care. I sell it for 3,900$ US (negotiable) + shipping fee (international). It comes with a metallic case, lens & mount cap. I ship from Montreal, QC, Canada.
  8. Hello! I'm selling a Canon CN-E Lens that has only been used once. It is in mint condition, single owner, and it has been certified by AbelCine in New York. I am working with David Blaine Productions, we are currently in Los Angeles. List price on Adorama is $23,875.00 Asking price is only $16,000.00
  9. Don't know if this question belongs in Lenses or CP 16 category. The good news is I just got a CP-16R for dirt cheap, it has at least one good battery and charger, seems to have been serviced recently, and the seller even included aa array b and arri s adapter. Pretty thrilled. The bad news is I have no lens right now, can't even seem to "fit" the adapters into the CP mount just to see them in there (guess I'll need some tiny grub screws too), and I see how dismal the selection of affordable lens choices are out there (I know why, BMPCC buyers got to them first) A little spooked by all the info re: backs of Arri lenses hitting mirrors, lenses not really working with cheaper adapters, etc. and wondering if I should just play it safe and wait for the right CP mount lens to show up on eBay, etc. I know I can carefully test an array s lens by using the inching nob. Guess I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing? I'll get an adapter part way in and then the other part won't go in. These were tested by Duall in NY so supposedly they're good. If anyone has an idea what I'm doing wrong.... Also, any opinion on the Canon C 16 12-120 Fluorite (CP mount) lens? Seems kind of a bargain and doesn't look bad on video tests. Peter G.
  10. I recently aquired a BMCC, which lends a couple of questions. Now, I see that it is common to use adapters with this camera. Which lenses are great choices for this camera? And are there fully manual zooms under $1000? Also, is Metabones speedbooster with EF lenses a good option, or are the lenses just too big for the sensor? Thanks.
  11. Hi group, Well I was always wondering: Why don't lenses provide the F stop which exactly corresponds to the light actually hitting the film emulsion or sensor (not accounting for lens flare and other random factors, just the glass inside the lens)? So in reality: if I get an F stop value from, say, a light meter, I most likely will get it in T stop. Otherwise the "exposure triangle" would make no sense (to me that is). Looks like some lenses are reducing as much as one stop while others perhaps a third of a stop. There is some information for some lenses regarding the actual T-stop, but many don't come with that information - and even with that information: what to do? Now add certain filters and you're into some serious math.... The only thing that remains the same (F stop/T stop) is of course the depth-of-field/focus. Fully automatic digital cameras with 100% matching lenses (or built-in ones) most likely take all that into account (to varying degrees of success IMHO). But what about using different lenses with no electronics and a 100% manual exposure? With film, once it's in the camera (and you don't have a variable shutter angle) your only way(s) to control exposure is/are lighting, filters and F stop. Please let me know how you go about the F stop vs. T stop issue and avoid under exposure. As always: any reply highly appreciated. Christian

Serial No. 787404 The lens has a re-polished front element, new cam-followers, and new rollers & bearings (focus & zoom). It has only been used twice (on two-day shoots) since this work was done. I purchased the lens through Serious Gear Company in Seattle for $5,878. Kit includes: Clamp ring support 15mm lens bridge pair 15x440mm stainless steel support rods fitted transport case. I have it listed for sale on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/222065415693 Starting bid: $4,000 Buy Now: $5,400 ABOUT THE LENS Lens designer Gordon H. Cook designed the 35mm Cooke 20-100mm, T3.1 Varotal zoom lens, released in 1971. It was the first high quality zoom designed for professional motion picture photography that incorporated a totally new design concept that has remained the basis for all Cooke zoom lenses subsequently produced. It was produced through the late 1980s. The lens was made with a sealed front focus unit and fixed front element that eliminated the risk of dirt and moisture being drawn into the lens and allowed for easy fitting of matte boxes and filter holders onto the front. The lens was enhanced with anti-reflective wide-band Varomag high performance coatings. This advanced technology achieved new standards in shadowed area definition, light transmission and durability, in addition to giving ghost and flare-free characteristics. Gordon H. Cook received the 1988 Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Gordon E. Sawyer Award for this and other technological advancements during his career as an optical designer.

  17. Hi, I'm looking for a Arri Ultra 16 lens (for Super 16). I would prefer the 35mm but I'm also interested in the 25mm. Scale in meter would be great… but Feet ok also. I might be willing to trade for my 6mm Ultra 16. Hope to hear from you! /Kalle
  18. Hi Guys I have a Angenieux 12-120 that i picked up for pretty cheap Cosmetics are good and so are the zoom and focus. But she is suffering from some fungus that looks like it could be on multiple elements. Is she worth getting cleaned or not with the time? Can anyone give me a price on what this would cost or make a recommendation on who I should go to. Thanks Cody
  19. Hey guys! I'm selling my awesome Leica Super Angulon 21mm f4/22 with a 300€ Cinevised modification from TLS in the UK (like Duclos in LA) I'm willing to let it go for 700€ for Forum members :) This is a lens that goes for 700$ to 1200$ on eBay WITHOUT the 300€ Cinestyle modification! You won't find a better wide angle lens on the market! It is a gorgeous vintage Leica lens - Serial #2318464 (1969) This is the best wide angle on the market for DSLR cinematography and will fit on any camera fitted with a Canon™ EF (like 5D and other) RED EPIC™, Black Magic™, etc. It covers every sensor, even 6K camera sensors like the Epic Dragon. (I used it myself on my Red Epic Dragon™ 6K). The lens had a 300€ modification for a cine style usage (called "Cinemod" or "Cinevised") made by TLS (True Lens Services, British equivalent of Duclos in Los Angeles) in the UK so it can be used in "cinema shooting" mode with a follow focus. It bears the following characteristics: Canon™ EF hard mount (aluminium machined made to mesure by Leitax) Aperture declicked Standard pitch.32 gear focus ring for your favorite Follow Focus Arri™ standard 80mm front ring (ideal for a clip-on Mattebox) 80mm lens hood Canon™ EF mount cap It is also sold with its original Leica hood, R-cap, and sun hood (not on the photos). This lens is in perfect condition, extremely fluid and sturdy and the legendary Leica quality gives images largely superior in quality and definition to any other lens on the market (Canon, Nikon, Sigma, etc...). A true lens for filmmaking! Perfect for indie filmmakers who want true film quality images! I will ship anywhere in the world! It's a gorgeous 1969 lens (serial N° 2318464) guaranteed to cover 6K sensors. I've shot numerous features, commercials and music videos with this lens but I just got a 19mm and don't need both. This lens will be with you for the rest of your life! I'm willing to let it go for 700€ for Forum members :) This is a lens that goes for 700$ to 1200$ on eBay WITHOUT the 300€ Cinestyle modification! Payment with Paypal only. 21. Hello all, I use a BMPCC with an Angenieux 12-120mm f/2.5 lens; to attach the lens, I use an Arri-pl mount. Now, I have an issue with this lens, and I'm not sure if it can even be solved: I get an out of focus picture when the zoom distance is below 20mm while at an aperture below f/5.6. No matter how much I adjust the focus ring, the picture is entirely out of focus. Is this natural for which the lens does not work with the Blackmagic's sensor, or am I just a special case and there's something wrong with my lens? Thanks, John

  25. With the advent of the 4/3 mount system a wide variety of lenses are now availble for use in HD and 4K acquisition. Lenses produced prior to the digital era may provide a specific look but for general production may not provide adequate resolution for HD or 4K production. Is there a standard suggested minimum resolution for lenses used for 4K acquisition? Are lower end lenses such as the Bower series and still lenses such as the Canon EF series of significant resolution to meet the requirements of 4K?
