  1. Hey everyone! Wanted to open up a discussion of the subliminal effects on an audience/contrasted moods that are conveyed in a push in versus a pull out. I've been thinking a lot about them lately, and of course there's the typical application of these shots opening/ending scenes in a very traditional matter. What does everyone think about these shots from a mood building and emotional point of view?
  2. Hi Guys, I am currently on a hunt for great and affordable LED tube light like the quasar science, to enhance music videos and other projects. When I search online for them, they are like £60 for a 4ft one. Does anyone know any websites, stores, rental houses that provide great & affordable LED tube lights, that work well for filming? I'm writing from the London, so I would preferbally would like things that I could buy over here, thank you! Christopher
  3. Hi everyone, I'm currently preparing for a music video. A couple of scenes will need a misty dreamlike look to it (example down below)? I understand old glass is the best to get this look, but I would like to know the different type that I could rent. I currently live in the UK wanted to know the most accessible filter and lenses needed to provide an image like this? Thank you for Reading Christopher
  4. I have just begun to study Terrence Malick's style, and how he creates a sense of "stillness" in his images. However, there aren't many analysis over this style online, so I've resorted mostly to watching his films on my own and seeing how this style plays out; this is what I've taken from it thus far: For me his films are deeply personal, especially The Tree of Life (2011) and To the Wonder (2013). I was able to connect to these films because of personal experiences and how they are reflected in said films (according to Malick, they are his most personal films as well). Nonetheless, fro
  5. Hi, I was wondering has someone been using the Optimo Style series (16-40 & 30-76) from Angenieux and what would be difference or improvements in relation with the Optimo DP Rouge (16-42 & 30-80).
  6. So last night I watched the movie Nerve, DP'd by Michael Simmonds and I just loved the high stylized look similar to John wick and Drive but different. My question here is, does anyone know what lights he used. Simmonds placed colorful practicals in the scene that had this neon look to them. Are they just gelled kino tubes or a special light made for this? The actors had this bright neon glow to them. The scene that got me questioning the most about how it was lit is the picture attached where actors Emma and Dave walking into some place and the overhead has these small dangling Christmas
  7. Hello all. My name is Bheki Ngwenya who is currently in the last and final year of a Film Production and Cinematography degree. At the moment I am doing a dissertation on cinematography. My chosen topic on the vast subject of cinematography was "visual style". With this post I am aiming to use your feedback as part of my research in identifying what visual style is and what it consists of. Looking forward to your replies. Cheers. Bheki Ngwenya.
