Bjarne Eldhuset
Hi, I`m looking for a cheap 5-10" lcd screen that: - runs on batteries - has video in - can show PAL - costs approx. 100 dollars or less All I seem to find is car-mountable dvd-player combos that don't run on battery, or portable dvd-players. I really don't need the dvd-player, but if someone knows about a deal that's cheap enough, I'll take it! Hope to hear from you wise men. Best regards, Bjarne, Oslo, norway. Premium Member Brad Grimmett Posted August 30, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted August 30, 2006 Do a search for lcd screens that are meant to be mounted in cars, such as in the headrest. Finding an lcd that cheap that runs off a battery will be tough. You'll probably have to do some mods in order to make it work for what you want. Do a quick search using "LCD monitor" "5-inch" "PAL": http://www.nextag.com/5-inch-lcd-monitor/search-html http://www.nextag.com/All--zz5+inch+lcd+mo...21zB1uz5---html http://www.chinasuppliers.globalsources.co...Monitor/140.htm http://www.made-in-china.com/showroom/ever...d-EV-7089-.html
Dan Horstman
If you are willing to go smaller, then you can find a 2.5 inch LCD screen on Ebay for about $50. I recently got one and it is perfect for my needs. You'll have to get a battery pack...but you can get one at Radio Shack.

Peter Tripodi
If it's made for a car it's probably 12 volts and low enough amp draw to run off a battery.

I think I'll go for Giles suggestion, as this is lighter and more versatile to me than the dvd-player-options. I'll post some pictures of the results in a month or two. Best regards, Bjarne, Oslo, Norway. I bought this DIGITAL BOX made by scanport. http://scanport.com/plyr_spec_sp500.html Cost $150-$199 CDN - bought from www.tigerdirect.ca Can record directly onto the device (via composite cables) onto SD cards in DIVX format. Great for immediate playback. I have it connected wirelessly into my video tap for the beaulieu/canon S8 cameras. Light weight and pretty good lithium battery. (also doubles as a camera, video camera, storage device, voice recorder, movie player, mp3 player etc....) Very cheaply made, but not bad for what you pay. justin www.justinlovell.com
