Rob Thomson
Hello, I have a Canon 7D, with a Nikon 50mm F1.4 Manual Focus Prime Lens which creates this kind of an image: My linkhttp://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/269/37973869.jpg/ With my old Panasonic hdc-sd200 camcorder, with a wide angle lens attachment, taken from the exact same position I get this image: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/580/imga0070x.jpg/ What I want is a lens that produces as wide an image as the second photo, that will fit my DSLR, that produces the best possible quality for around $300. I have qualms about buying a used lens, in fact It's probably going to be my best bet to buy from somewhere like ebay. In case it isn't already blindingly obvious, I'm a total newbie to the DSLR world, so I would really appreciate advice on what kind of lens I should get. Please excuse my ignorance on the matter! Thanks in advance for your opinions, Rob.
Rob Thomson
I just realised I made a mistake on my original post. I meant to write I have no qualms about buying used lenses, not the opposite!
Patrick Shelton
You might want to look into the Tokina 11-16. Its about double your 300$ limit, but its definitely worth it...
Premium Member Adam Brown Posted December 20, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted December 20, 2011 Although, you can probably find a used Tokina 11-16 online or at your local camera shop for around that $400-500 price point. Great lens though. I second the recommendation.
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted December 20, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted December 20, 2011 Looks about 3X the view so a lens in the 12mm range... I'd get a wide angle zoom but you'd have to find a deal on a used one to meet your budget.
Evan Kimball
Could also try a 17/18-55 kit lens. That'll will cover a descent range within your budget.
