Tom Jensen
Hello How can I focus a subject which is reflected in a mirror? What should I calculate? Thanks! Do it by eye or measure from the camera to the mirror and then to the subject.
Premium Member Chris Keth Posted January 25, 2010 Premium Member Share Posted January 25, 2010 Tom's got it. You have to account for the whole optical path to your subject.
Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted January 25, 2010 Premium Member Share Posted January 25, 2010 If by eye make sure your diopter is properly set.

Tom Jensen
Bah, details. I guess nobody sets the diopter these days. And don't forget to plug the camera in when you shoot.

Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted January 25, 2010 Premium Member Share Posted January 25, 2010 I recall my first mirror shot driving me nuts because it wasn't sharp through the lens when i measured.. turns out the diopter on the bolex wasn't set... and my whole roll, minus the mirror, was soft. Of course, you don't plug that camera in ;)

Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted January 25, 2010 Premium Member Share Posted January 25, 2010 Well I did try to, but all that happened was a slight tingly feeling when I put my face to the finder.
clarice lispector
 I imagined that was it, measuring the whole optical path. but i was confused cause someone told me once something about the distance of the person to the mirror X2... anyway, thanks for the good answer and for making me laugh while i read all the ramifications of the conversation! That would be fairly correct if you were over the shoulder of the person, or standing right next to them shooting a single in the mirror.
