Local 600, ASC Nominees

Don't quote me on this, but I believe he just has to pay the union dues from his paycheck while on the shoot though minus the benefits. Again, I heard that somewhere, though I can't recall where

That sounds like taxation without representation to me.

It's kinda standard actually. It's a union thing which lets non union members work in union shops, a way of subsidizing 'em and such .I do recall that when my friend went to go work for UPS they had to pay union dues all the time before they were accepted into the union.

You are supposed to be on the LA Roster in order to work in the 13 Western States.

I have had to turn down work due to the fact that I am not on the Roster.

But then I did not have Dreamworks backing me.

Peter, you could have accepted that work and worked for up to 30 days before having to either join the union (with the requisite 30 union days of work already done) or leave the job.

Thats not what I was told. Are you on the roster Chris?

If you wish to work in Los Angeles, be hired and/or transported out of Los Angeles or work anywhere within the 13 Western States under the Hollywood Basic Agreement, you must be placed on the Industry Experience Roster. Placement on the Roster does not mean that you are a member of Local 600. You may be a member of Local 600 without being placed on the Roster. Under the terms of the Hollywood Basic Agreement and the Local 600 Agreement, employers are required to give preference of employment to persons who are on the Motion Picture Industry Experience Roster, which is maintained by Contract Services Administration Trust Fund, also known as “Contract Services” or “CSATF.”

Yeah, I'm on the industry experience roster. My understanding is that one can work 30 days without a union card or roster placement. Without that, I see no reason for the "work 30 union days" option of gaining roster placement.

Yes but the previous post contradicts that. It's a catch 22. Did you get your 30 days in CA?

How To Be Placed On The Industry Experience Roster:

1) If a producer can demonstrate that qualified camera craftspeople are not available in a given classification, the producer may seek craftspeople from other sources. In the event, thirty (30) days in one (1) job classification within a one (1) year period immediately preceding the date of your application for placement on the Roster through CSATF.

2) If you are working for a non-signatory (non-union) employer and that employer becomes signatory (union) by signing the Hollywood Basic Agreement, you will be eligible for roster placement after accumulating thirty (30) work days in one (1) job classification under the union contract with that signatory company. Days must be within a one (1) year period, immediately preceding the date of your application for placement on the Roster through CSATF.

3) By demonstrating one hundred (100) days of paid, non-union work experience in one (1) job classification within a three year period, immediately preceding the date of your application for placement on the Roster through CSATF.

4) By demonstrating a total of thirty (30) work days collectively with one or more producers under Local 600’s Amendment Agreement which covers camera persons hired and employed in the thirty-seven (37) states of the Central and Eastern Regions. Days must be in one (1) job classification within a one (1) year period, immediately preceding the date of your application for placement on the Roster through CSATF.

My mistake. The ICG post refereed to the Oscar nominees.

Bruno Delbonnel however has worked in the US. Having shot "Across the Universe " and "Infamous" in the US, would he not have to be a member by now?
