Brian Pritchard
For those of you interested in film labs and processing I have a 16mm film made in the 70s streaming on my web site. The film is not quite of Academy Award standard! However it does have some interest. It was made by Humphries Film Labs and is called 'The Small Film Unit and the Labs' You will find it here: http://www.brianpritchard.com/British%20Labs.htm Humphries Film Labs was around from about 1927 until 1984 when it was closed down; I was technical director at the time, The lab also owned satellite labs in Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow. The Leeds lab eventually became Film Lab North and finally closed earlier this year. I hope one or two of you will find it of interest. Until recently only the first 7 minutes was available on my site due to using a free file sharing site. I have now converted it to flash and the full film is available. Premium Member Simon Wyss Posted August 29, 2010 Premium Member Share Posted August 29, 2010 Wonderful. I like the noise track. Funny production. Soothes the soul that old time rock ‘n’ roll.

Christian Appelt
Brian, I'd love to see your film! I did install the latest Opera version. Scrolling down the page http://www.brianpritchard.com/British%20Labs.htm I see just a grey window. Internet Explorer does show a black window with a [PLAY] symbol, but nothing more. If I copy & paste the adress http://www.brianpritchard.com/player_flv_maxi.swf, the URL changes immediately to http://e.freewebhostingarea.com/outside-access-blocked/insert-it-into-a-webpage-under-the-same-account.gif If the problem is difficult to solve, would you consider an upload to youtube.com ? Tom Sykes
Hello Brian, I am extremely intrigued by this video, although unfortunately I can only manage up to 22 seconds. I understand that this has been an issue for quite sometime and I noticed you have updated the web page last month... I know somebody has asked already but are you in a position at all to upload it to another video hosting site? I would love to watch it. Thanks, Tom. Brian Pritchard
Hello Tom I am sorry it has been a problem.. Unfortunately I have to use a free website server - I don't receive any money from my website. The free servers restrict the size of file that can be uploaded; the free file sharing website only allows a few seconds viewing. I think the only alternative at present is to allow people to download the video file. I will post a link so that the file can be downloaded. Brian Pritchard
You can download the file here: http://www.4shared.com/file/NLBX-1mC/The_Small_Film_Unit_and_the_La.html Unfortunately you have to wait before the download starts and probably get adverts as well. If anyone can suggest a better method please let me know. Brian
Tom Sykes
That's brilliant and very kind of you Brian. I am downloading it as of now, and will notify you if there are adverts etc, regardless at least I/we can watch it now. Magic!! Thanks again. Premium Member Charles MacDonald Posted September 7, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted September 7, 2011 That's brilliant and very kind of you Brian. Interesting bit of history. File downloaded fine, the file name did not have an extension on it, but Linux identified it as an MP4. Presumably Windows users may have to re-name the file with that extension. (years since I used wondows so I am not sure if it has gotten better with identifying file types.) The production itself is a nice example of a "sponsored " film of the era. One wonders why they felt the need to explain the process twice, but who are we of the midia generation to judge. Possibly the need was based on trouble spots they had had with their customers. Thank you very much Brian.
Barry Blackmore
Hi Brian Do you know what happened to the negs held by Humphries when the Lab closed, I had shot a film and the neg was in the Lab when it closed. Barry
