MattThomasFilm
Hi guys, I'm currently looking into the use of colour and colour grading in films for my dissertation and I was wonder if there's any good footage of films showing the ungraded and graded clips from the film. Or if there is any good documentary or behind the scenes/making ofs that cover the colour grading process? Thanks Matt
Mei Lewis
There are some before and after shots on Prolost, for example here http://prolost.com/blog/2010/1/26/color-correcting-canon-7d-footage.html It's not of big name movies though. Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted November 30, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted November 30, 2011 Likewise not enormous stuff, but there's some very brief before/afters of something I did here: http://www.video.bhphotovideo.com/index.jsp?cm_sp=HDSLR-_-HURLBUT-_-Go2Episode&fr_chl=21a75f44fa098827d21f1a1521be845b28981b01

Premium Member Vincent Sweeney Posted December 1, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted December 1, 2011 You aren't likely to see any known films in this way because the last thing a director and/or DP wants anyone in the public to see are ungraded clips. Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted December 1, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted December 1, 2011 There's some examples from Hugo in this month's American Cinematographer, showing ungraded Alexa RAW / on set LUT / and Final Corrected image. Well worth the purchase price (they also go into J Edgar ;)
Mei Lewis
fxguide in general have a lot of comparisons showing shots with and without the VFX work, which also sometimes means pre and post grade. There are a couple of shots from Hugo here: http://www.fxguide.com/featured/hugo-a-study-of-modern-inventive-visual-effects/
