Help with acheiving the water lighting effect

Recommended Posts

Can someone please tell me how to get this water effect type lighting we see on the artist "Usher" performing against a black background?

From the beginnng of the video we see Usher singing against a black background with a water type lighting on him.

Pls, how is it done?

I am pretty sure I have seen a thread with the answer on this forum.

You can achieve it by putting some foil in a container, filling it with water and shining a light into it. Agitate to simulate ripples.

Thanks for the reply.....its just that this light seems to be coming from above

You can achieve a water ripple effect using silver mylar,. Just bounce the light into a slightly crumpled sheet, while twisting it.

I'm with Brian on this. I've always done it with reflectors by manually moving them to get the right effect.

You can even use different coloured reflective materials to get different colour ripple effects.

(or you could gel the lights too I suppose!)

It's kind of fun, you should experiment a bit and see what you can come up with!
