Jon Taala Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 This may be a dumb question, but I'm new to editing physically on film so.... What is the standard length of space between film rewinds? I just bought a pair of moviola rewinds and I want to mount them, but I can't for the life of me find any information online on how far they should be spaced. I read from a source on ebay that the standard spacing is 33 inches apart but I don't know how credible that source was. If anyone knows the standard spacing between rewinds, your help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

I forget the exact amount of space between them, but it was definitely less than 33". I'd say maybe 26". And I still had plenty of room to put the 4-gang synchronizer in-between them.

Premium Member Bill DiPietra Posted August 21, 2014 Premium Member Posted August 21, 2014 Yup. Pretty much whatever works. I'd take a look at some tables (in-person) to get a sense of what you may want. After all, the amount of space between the rewinds will be governed by the size of the table.
Brian Drysdale Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 The distance may depend on what your using them for. For example, you may want to have a synchronizer/viewer and a couple of bins in between, although David's limitation does tie in with any of the benches I've seen in cutting rooms.
