Space Shuttle in slow-motion

Hey everyone. I figured you all would appreciate this.

 

My dad - a true lover of the NASA space program - sent me this link to one of four videos of the space shuttle lifting off at 400fps. I am posting it here because the narrators talk extensively about the film-making processes that were used to achieve this.

 

Really astounding images on 16mm. Enjoy!

Thanks for posting that. Great 16mm footage. I've watched it about 50 times before,but that never gets old.

Thats a college friend of mine who did that: Kevin Burke. He was a dual film and technical photography major at RIT. He worked very hard to do both at the same time. He was always bordering on exhaustion. If I recall he went to work for NASA right after college and never worked for anyone else. That video has been available on the internet for some time and there are much longer ones that also include 35mm high speed work they did. All spectacular work.

 

I haven't seen Kevin in years and I tried to find contact info for him via the internet, but to no avail. If anyone sees him, please ask him to shoot me an email.

WHen I worked on weapons trials I thought that we went through film like it was going out of fashion (which was true, as it happens) but those fellows were using it miles at a time by the look of it.
