rob spence
I use the Ninja Blade on an F3, which is great for recording prores. However does anyone know a recorder that has built in viewing luts ( rec 709) to make working with S-log a little easier?
rob spence
Or has anyone got experience of a Lut box used on camera?
Stuart Allman
Rob, Convergent Design (Odyssey 7), Video Devices (PIX-E5), and some of the newer Atomos products have LUTs for S-log built in. We used the two former recorders with Sony cameras this last weekend. Stuart Allman ------------------------------ illuma.blogspot.com
Premium Member Satsuki Murashige Posted March 22, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted March 22, 2016 Sound Devices Pix-E5 and E7 have LUTs built in, I believe. But they don't output to an external monitor. Convergent Designs Odyssey 7Q+ has LUTs as well, don't know about output though.
rob spence
Thanks for the info...do you think it would be possible to hand calibrate from slog input to a screen rec709 viewing lut using the Blades colour controls?
Premium Member Satsuki Murashige Posted March 23, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted March 23, 2016 The Blade has color controls? Generally, no you can't use normal monitor controls like brightness, contrast, saturation, and tint to correct log images back to rec709. You can sort of approximate it if you want, but not accurately enough to judge color or exposure. You need an actual conversion LUT to do the job.
