Reggie A Brown
Hello All I'm studying and learning more about lighting and grip equipment. I just recently purchased my first scrim. I purchased the Matthews single 24x36. It's really thin. Like really really thin! And I'm afraid of ripping and/or tearing it if it's not stored properly. So my questions are: how do you guys store them and go about handling them when traveling? Is there a scrim case? And how durable is the fabric on scrims, can they take any abuse? Thanks in advance to who ever may answer these questions! Edited April 1, 2017 by Reggie A Brown
Michael Rodin
I stack them between flags and poly bouce board, tie their ears together and wrap in some canvas or tarpaulin. Don't stack different-sized scrims/flags though as smaller scrims' metalwork can tear the larger ones' fabric. A special scrim bag with dividers is better though. And the "right" way to do it is a scrim box in the grip truck (usually a wooden box on the side by the doors), with separate sections for different sizes/types, so you can quickly pull out the one you need. JD Hartman
Flag and scrim bag as made by Matthews, Advantage Gripware, etc. or scrim box made or Coroplast.
Reggie A Brown
Thanks guys. I think I may make a d.i.y scrim box.
Premium Member George Ebersole Posted April 3, 2017 Premium Member Share Posted April 3, 2017 Don't most studios and grip trucks keep them in wooden boxes?
Edward Lawrence Conley III
If you are packing them up in a car I would look into Road Rags. They travel a wee bit better.
