Luigi Castellitto
I know this projector has a feature: it run at 25fps instead of 24fps.I don't know why they made this choice, but... this 25 fps could affect the viewing of mute films and audio films with magnetic and optical audio? And of amateur movies shot at 24fps? Is it influential? Thank you.
Mark Dunn
Film for PAL TV was invariably shot at 25. You probably wouldn't notice the difference unless you switched between speeds whilst listening to the same reel- the sound pitch is a bit higher, that's all. Luigi Castellitto
But why Meopta choose that format, even a risk of having a higher audio or other problem? When the standard of all 16mm was 24fps?
Brian Drysdale
It was past of the soviet block at that time, so the reasons could be related to 16mm film production there and the type of films they were screening.
Luigi Castellitto
Yes, the projector is Czechoslovakian, but I don't remember a standard other than 24fps for 16mm in the Soviet block. I have to inform!
Mark Dunn
Look at this. http://www.meoptahistory.com/?id=315 24/16 is the standard until 1965, everything after that is 25/18.
Luigi Castellitto
Maybe it was the only projector series with that fps. But in demonstration videos that are on Youtube I don't see fast images or higher and distorted audio, it seems all right.
Brian Drysdale
You won't notice the difference, 24 fps film is shown all the time at 25fps on TV in Europe, What the actual running speed is can be different to the spec speed, projectors are often out and can be a frame slower in practice.
