Alfie Hollingsworth Posted May 1, 2021 Posted May 1, 2021 I was wondering how ACs create clear/see through labels to stick on the slate? Info such a the films title, director and DPs name. Without getting a custom board made of course. Thank you in advance.
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted May 1, 2021 Premium Member Posted May 1, 2021 Something like this. Most of them will print either way on the tape; the ones used for slates are likely using the larger 19mm tape. Clear or white-backed tapes exist. https://www.dymo-label-printers.co.uk/dymo-industrial-printer/dymo-rhino-4200-label-printer.html 1
Alfie Hollingsworth Posted May 1, 2021 Author Posted May 1, 2021 Hi Phil, Ever a great presence on here, thank you! Good to know about the clear tape. I was wondering. All the best, Alfie
Premium Member Satsuki Murashige Posted May 1, 2021 Premium Member Posted May 1, 2021 Clear 1” P-Touch labeling tape: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ptouchdirect.com/amp/ptouch/tze151.html
Premium Member Tyler Purcell Posted May 1, 2021 Premium Member Posted May 1, 2021 Nearly all of the guys I work with still use markers on slates. 1
Alfie Hollingsworth Posted May 1, 2021 Author Posted May 1, 2021 Yeah, I would use marker for the info that's constantly changing, but I like something semi permanent for the info that tends to remain the same. I was interested if there was any creative ways to make designs and text. I tried transfering a printed design with tape, but it didn't come out at all!

Yea, Satsuki is right, those types of printers are what you use. I actually use gaff tape with permanent marker on it. Oh and remember, you can put permanent marker on a slate and use a dry erase marker to remove it. Very cool trick an AC taught me once and I have used it on many shows.
Alfie Hollingsworth Posted May 1, 2021 Author Posted May 1, 2021 (edited) Yeah, I use that way too, but I wanted something a bit cleanear. Edited May 1, 2021 by Alfie Hollingsworth

Steve Woronko Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 (edited) It's P-Touch, depending on the size of the slate it's 18mm or 24mm tape. The Brother P-Touch PTD600(https://www.brother-usa.com/products/ptd6000) is the new model that everyone uses these days. It's expensive but you can find it cheaper sometimes on a deal. Dan Hasson Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 This is the stuff that can be used to clean permanent marker off the slate.

Bernat Bonaventura Hortal Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 I use clear adhesive A4 printable paper, mostly for commercials where production sends me the logos etc and I print them using this paper. I've made a template for my slate, and then I can also include director and dop names and they align perfectly in their boxes. Really easy and cheap. You need to make sure you buy for specific paper for inkjet or laser printers. something like this https://www.amazon.com/Printable-Sticker-Printer-Transparent-Resistant/dp/B08912RZVF/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=clear+vinyl+paper&qid=1620069615&sr=8-6

I had no idea we'd created see-through printing paper, definitely gonna order some and try this! Thank you!
