Valentin Iraola
When I bought my super 8, it came with all the case candy and stuff etc etc, but I never found out what this is? Can It be a lens hood but for super 8 camera? What is it used for? Raymond Zrike
Looks like a lens hood that’ll screw into lenses with 48mm threads.
Mark Dunn
That's right. Presumably your camera takes a different size. Super-8 cameras usually have metal filter threads, but just in case yours is plastic, be aware that a metal hood may tear off the threads if the camera is dropped. Valentin Iraola
@Mark Dunn should I use it? I'm thinking it could prevent some lens flare but, is it so important to use on super 8? Or just taste?
Mark Dunn
My point was really about screwing a metal hood into plastic threads, not about whether or not to use one at all. I would always use a lens hood, especially with a flare-prone multi-element zoom lens on a Super-8 camera, unless using lens flare for creative reasons. Philip Forrest
It's both a lens hood and a Series VI filter holder. The hood would be of particular interest to a person who shoots an old 35mm Canon rangefinder camera, which commonly had 48mm threads in a few of their best lenses.
