Max Field
So I had tried to make run and gun with Arri Alexa Classic work to barely any avail, though I saw Arri took the ALEV sensor and threw it into a more broadcast friendly camera. Can anyone confirm if this model is easier/more ergonomic/has better audio than the Alexa Classic? How is battery life too? Is it as easy to use as an ENG camera but with a beautiful ALEV sensor? Or are there things to be cautious about if one values ease of use? Thank you!
Premium Member Dan Finlayson Posted January 1 Premium Member Share Posted January 1 The Amira is barely lighter than the Alexa classic but it is more ergonomic - you can slide the shoulder pad nook and top handle forward or rearward to accommodate the exact weight of your lens/battery combo. The Amira has more robust onboard sound options, with dials on the camera to change levels. In my experience the effective run time per battery size is the same as the Alexa Classic. I would not say it's as easy as an ENG camera - every ENG camera I've handheld is lighter. But I do love working with the Amira for handheld. Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted January 4 Premium Member Share Posted January 4 I personally enjoy the Amira, a lot, and find it much easier to hold than a classic, with better recording options as well, as it's a new system beyond the sensor. It may or may not be lighter depending on your build out, but it's certainly not a lightweight camera. ENGs are lighter, but probably not as rugged-- but the Amira works well enough for the NFL to use them. To be honest, regardless of camera weight, I'm pretty much always using an ergo rig when hand held. Literally best thing I've ever bought for any camera on my body-- and works wonderfully with an Amira
