  1. Potentially awesome film that got away from Merhige.....he really is an awesome filmmaker... BEGOTTEN, SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE, interesting manson video.... the 16mm and super8 were used in bens "alter state", remote viewing stuff....
  2. Mr. Sweetman likes the BL. Am I right, David? Maybe he'll add... Nolan shot THE FOLLOWING with an ARRI 16BL. These things are tanks. There are prime blimps available, too....a little bit harder to come by. About 30dbl... 2K? Save more money...remember, when you buy it you should get it checked out....extra money is always good. Never be in a "hurry" to obtain a camera package. It's like going to the grocery store when you're hungry... ok, that analogy sucks, but.... :D
  3. "Andrei Rublev" Photographed by Vadim Yusov, zones one thru ten.(well, maybe not X...) Badass. Really it's a hard thing to list....everyones favorite is a great choice. "Begotten" has to be mentioned for how insane it is. B&W helps it "become" an artifact of pre-speech human history....amazing film.
  4. I think this link will be of value to you. :D http://users.aol.com/fmgp/faq.htm
  5. he he he, I'm just now getting your style of humor.... Sometimes in the past it just flew over my head.  I knew a few John Birchers in Texas....
  6. I don't get it.... :) No really, politics should play no part in employment. Arrest history...yes. :D No matter how much you dislike "right-wingers" exposure can only benefit a person. Those posting from USA haven't left yet, so left and right must still have more in common than not. If I were surrounded by just republicans or just dems I'd probably kill myself. Like minded is great but it can get tired and worse, BORING!!!
  7. While the above is true the only difference between Hitler and Castro are the resources their nations had to enable their crazy ideals. Castro didn't have parkinsons affecting his gulliver in his fifties, all other differences mean nothing. Hitler is not an anomoly..... This is all really dumb anyways....IMHO. Castro is a muck-raker. Or maybe all those cubans in miami are fascist beasts ? No, I dont think so. You don't see people leaving here unless its johnny depp to buy a second, third house in pari....I don't know what the hell I'm saying....nonsense.... ;) I just can't believe people could actually debate the merits of this guy.... Again, the pic is real. Unlike some coming from lebanon....
  8. Just internet? Where are you in the world?
  9. Hey Ramon, Firstly, nice to have you aboard. It's always nice to see new people, I'm very new myself.... Secondly, if you are not a "working" DOP, meaning a professional, you should probably change your profession title to student or something else. It's good to have a clear line between those who do it for a living and everyone else...has to do with respect. :) Lastly, there are untold amounts of books on the subject. We, that is the admin. Tim not "myself", have put a thread on the site with rec'd books concerning every aspect of filming. Color correction, everything! Its at the bottom of the first forum page. It would take days of posting by the members here to answer not only this question you have, but all the others that would undoubtably follow. Spend time researching on the forum...you'll find alot of your Q's answered with no need to post. This site is set up perfectly for new users, take advantage. :) -Jonnie
  10. Ok, I'm stupid.... :( But I'm still reporting your ass.. :) The pic looks real enough and thats all that matters... Oh, just kidding about reporting you. The FBI is probably on their way to your house right now anyway...
  11. Dude, this place is in canada! America is the one with the import problem. Pun intended! Wait, was that a pun?
  12. The AFS should be able to help guide you.... I lived and worked in Austin for awhile. Great community...
  13. Ok,Ok.. :) UNCLE!!! I still think you paint a picture of Gore that is not cognate, as far as intentions not facts, with his behavior in office, at least with my view. I personally spy an egotistical nut who was mad for power blah, blah, blah... Your account of the republican position I do believe is based in reality. :) We could both go down the list with "counter this"- "counter that" bull. I always find it amusing when some posters go on and on with countering "gotchas!" regarding a politicians career. One upmanship, we call it.. not that you or I are doing it now. The reason its possible to do is because both parties are correct in their assasination attempts! Hence my disdain for the current "line-up".... The profession of politics I admire...It is the current proffesionals whom I have problem with. We have a disagreement over Gore for sure...I am still gald you go out and vote, though. I respect your opinion. Basically, I don't think there is an honest man/woman in the whole bunch. And believe it or not, I am a glass half full kinda guy...I don't see doom and gloom everywhere I turn. Now if we could just agree about some other issues like the war(s) and the future direction of the free world...small stuff like that. :D
  14. Who cares if the pic is real? Castro is a "nobody". We waste our time hating him, his star has passed its zenith in regards to how his policy really affects what any other country but his does. He is a worthless piece of mule dung and we've done nothing but popularize the steaming pile by playing silly little games with him. America used to be open to countries so we could have a possitive effect in the public minds view of what an economy other than a communist one is capable of. Somehow we left that behind.... Our action/inaction toward Cuba has nothing to do with its communist government, it has to do with our rabid fascination of "bringing down" Castro the man. I have a friend who was born their and he's estatic over the possibility that Castro might bite the big one. I ask him, "What then?" His reply is, " Castros death is for my father!" Ya, what about your children....? I'm not trying to be disrespectful, after all his fathers family no longer exists, but you can't feed off the past forever..... I only hope when this piece of crap dies we can stop with the b/s and get down to beginning an open dialogue with some real change on the table, both sides. Hey Rafa! :) Nice to have you add to the board. I'd like to hear more of your views on this topic.. In regards to your comment, are you really surprised by any americans lack of knowledge regarding foriegn affairs? I mean our understanding of our world neighbors views? It seems to me we don't know a whole lot about what other people think and that they don't really understand us, either. Sad situation, really. :( Unfortunately media at large has failed "the people" all over the world. At least thats my thoughts... Glad to have you, -Jonnie
  15. This is a good idea. The professionals on this site deserve to know with whom they converse. :) I also changed my display name since some people never noticed my "signature" field carried my "christian" name loud and proud...Change is not always bad. :D As long as it's a free site, being the information herein is free, I'll bend over to pick up a dime with butt-cheeks to remain a member!!! :P
  16. well, it all boils down to your artistic choice of emulsion. You chose fuji and not a thing is wrong with that. It just seems like a lot of trouble to respool, to me. But I may be a dolt as well... You balanced your artistic choice with a possible hindrance and that is something people are forced to do all the time. Now that you made your choice, however, the piper has reared his head to collect on a possible logistical nightmare. That is what he does. Don't hate him for it... Now you must wrestle him to the ground by overcoming your apparent problem like many dexterous people before you. Good luck. I hope the film comes out the way you intend and I look forward to some future posts with pics. :) -Jonnie Hey Allyn, Do you have to use an a-min? It might be easier to just get a different cam. ?
  17. The Declaration of Independent Filmmaking I just read this and thought I'd tell you folk it's pretty sweet. Could I make a more intelligent observation? I hope so, but the sweep of the book is very intoxicating and I feel "sweet book" sums that up just fine. I might add that the writing style is a big part of their success with this book. I don't want to sound disrespectful when I say this, but writing a screenplay and a book are two very different things and I was a little surprised at how well done it was. Some insperational film books are cute (Rebel W/O A Crew) and more are just boring. The Polish Bros. escaped these traps and put out a timeless work. Check it out while there is still summer reading fun to be had! -Jonnie
  18. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) Yeah, I know what you mean. Can I get a picture first? No, I'm keeding, I keed! These are special cores but I guess you knew that. KODAK makes 'em with film attached as a bonus!!! Just order one from kodak, but you're going to lose about five minutes of film or more respooling with fuji. Sorry I can't help. Good luck, however.-Jonnie Oh, I forgat to say... This is a bad idea. Kodak got your back! Where Fuji be? This is a lot of trouble that kadack can see you through....AHH, Kodak... B)
  19. use an ND. unless these shots are more of a city nightscape type deal you might not need to. I think its 1-80 sec. Just go to Aatons site and view their manual. As far as tips......put a black shirt or something over the camera. If you have even the weeniest light leak you film will be f'd up. Hopefully some other member can help you out more.... :D -Jonnie
  20. Only buy film when you know you're going to shoot it. Whats the point in having unexposed film at your house when kodak can keep it for you(and makes fresh batches) till the time you need it? If you must..... The fridge works fine. Don't fuss with the container. When you take it out make sure to let it reach full room temp before filming. If it will be 6 months or longer store in the freezer. Make sure to let the darn film get up to room temp! Seriously, get it out a day or more before use. I've seen funny anomolies on color film that was allowed to collect moisture because the genius messed with the lip before he put into deep freeze! But I don't see the point.... There is much more info and advice on this wonderous thing we call the internet. I know this is a cinematography forum but this info is printed on the internet. Next time you could get it without the wait. I hear KODAK has an excelent website..... :) I go there often. Hope this helps.-Jonnie
  21. Its funny that Mr. Mullen mentions DUNE. I was reading an old article where Lynch said Dino kept coming up to him and saying, "Please, David, less ERASER HEAD and more ELEPHANT MAN." I feel thats very insightful....
  22. Oh, please! Tell me where I said it was "acceptable " to mistreat people on a set... Sorry, your analogy just does not work. I get your point, however. Why fight over this? Are your feelings hurt that bad over my comments, said in jest BTW, about your analogy? As far as the article in question being silly, perhaps it is. However the facts presented in it are not silly. They help outline the patrician attitude these folk have in washington. Did you even read my posts...? Obviously you are on some kick where you have to "protect" the honor of Al Gore, no matter how asinine your defence is. Anyone who has read my previous posts on this know I went out of my way, bent over backwards, to be civil and state that offense was not meant. Whats the point now? Are you just trying to "call me out" or something? Sorry, dude, I get what your point was but now you're defending it for no reason and on top of that, in an asinine way.... Peace, brother human ! - Jonnie
