  1. This has been their fight in order to justify the premium to pay for the proprietary media, as for instance. No more introduction of $3K for 3K concept (Blackmagic Design did it on their behalf). And as we all know, the prosumers were a good part of the RED ONE early adopters and Jim's primary target in the very beginning when forums like this one didn't receive the news with the same good will. Therefore, the usual remaining propaganda paraphernalia. Very true. Even yesterday afternoon, I had the same feeling comparing delivery codecs and 1080p media.
  2. You Keith, your kindergarten and same old number... Yes, the world could be and is a small village at times. They say the 7 billion number was surpassed on 12 March 2012. So anyone should have noticed the work of this guy here, especially if posted at your playground ;) On topic, RED has been releasing in a way or another, their products. Whether you like whether not. So what's the new beef this time?! No, for the umpteenth time, I am not working with them. But yes, I could follow up the news from those two threads during the last NAB only a month ago. I guess Jim is still not able to address you the check despite the fact you're saving the ad cost to the company, and by consequence to their customers. In any case, you keep the hype up in these boards indeed (who else?), but you've forgotten to always post the full pics ;-)
  3. http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?77172-REDray-Player http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?77171-REDray-Projector :)
  4. Yes Keith, I'm sorry. I did try to ...and my best, though ;)
  5. Have you used the 1/50th-1/100th shutter in order to keep it under control?
  6. Indeed. Jim would have to re-invent the DSMC concept in order to face the competition price-wise, as well, the high sensitivity of Canon's sensor. Here is some C500 footage coming from: https://vimeo.com/39823568 More here by Dante Ariola (director) from hands of Jeff Cronenweth, ASC (shooting Hitchcock as of today): http://cinemaeos.usa.canon.com/media-gallery.php You have both in this link: "Man and Beast" and BTS.
  7. It looks like they only wanted to 'listen' the market once as same as happened with the C300 for example also announced for US $20,000 and going in the street for $15,999... the 4K C-DSLR price is dropping for much less: http://www.techrific.com.au/canon-eos-1d-c-digital-slr-camera-body-only-1dc-free-gift-12mth-local-warranty-p-2956.html
  8. Sure, there's business behind. I've never seen the 'luck factor' to play any part in this show, have any of you? Canon has now a dedicated division operating in hollywood; RED is already feeling the pressure under people like Laurence Thorpe or the support of names such as Martin Scorsese (who had shot on Alexa as we all know), among their market sweet spot (the Lake Forest company has been trying to create even in pages of these same boards : ) And everything has began when Canon decided to merge along late 2008 their professional photography department with the video divison, until then especially targeted to wedding video makers. And transferred their own staff with years of business experience to the new 'sales lab' where came the forthcoming cinema division. Where they helped to develop the DSLR concept, as for instance the firmware upgrade is a fine example. Yes, they say they weren't expecting the 5DII sales (launched in 2008 ;-) in hands of moviemakers, they say. This helps to make the legend too. To each their own marketing ; ) But can we call it luck? Only if between commas...
  9. They are distinct acquisition tools. One allows faster frame rates at 4K resolution, the other doesn't. If you want some other comparison, do it with the right capture device on RED side, the EPIC camera.
  10. Here is another (interesting) one: http://vimeo.com/34833707
  11. For your information, our group has access to more than two RED cameras in grand total (we are several people to own or share more than a RED unit) now with more four coming soon. For distinct kind of work such as training programs, music concerts, etc. But that started to be shot in NZ. This would mean something in terms of budget, crew, permits to shoot and so on. Moreover, someone would start to do it on a smaller 5DMkII once aside the size factor, we also have different levels of patience, being me one of the most patience ones ;-) As we already know since that infamous night with more one of Jim's price announcements, we don't think for the same head. To a few, Jim is only giving us BS, vaporware, the like. To others where I am included myself, Jim is only doing his best but NOT exactly in a negative way. Sometimes, they can even think if you Keith are the perfect joker :-) (did I ever tell you 'Jim Murdoch' was used to be one of their heroes? Go check and see the gang's posts and you get an accurate extension of the gang's multiple personality disorder :-D) Emanuel is more or less accurate good part of the time with his predictions where our plans fit. You can fairly guess, I have a bunch of them everyday asking 'when do the cameras come?', 'how much more will a fully workable RED cost?'... For a matter of aesthetical coherence, we are thinking to shoot the Montenegrin part with one of 5DMkII we also have and use. Plus, using the GH1/2 we're used to see in training programs in the hands of trainees too, wherever the hacked GH series tops. But if the Epic/Scarlet units will arrive first, we'll use them for sure. Nothing at our level beats a RED camera for wide shots.
  12. Done as requested. Location rules out once it was not required. In any case, it would have been outdated so many times these last years somewhere between north of Europe and a little bit allover Mediterranean Europe. Although outdated, here is a link that might be able to satisfy anyone's curiosity. And here is another (humble) related to some current project we 'the gang' are workin' on (work in progress, private link for inner consumption not exactly to the world yet :-) shot in NZ (1st and 3rd parts), 2nd one in Crna Gora, Montenegro (ex-YU) in native language, shot on Canon 5DMkII, a digital camera but not exactly a RED camera, not only but also for matters of budget.
  13. From Encarta online dictionary at dictionary.msn.com closed on 2011: «An art film (also known as art movie, specialty film, art house film, or in the collective sense as art cinema) is the result of filmmaking which is typically a serious, independent film aimed at a niche market rather than a mass market audience.»
  14. Yet, it is juridical terminology as much important to the enlightenment of the truth as certain humble entries posted online. For some reason, people apply to the Courts granted certain circumstances or losses. The reality is simply not made of the misconceived idea(s) some stranger(s) in the other side of the world can have about whoever, whatever* in his/their mind... 100% built online BTW. Sometimes, it is the only way to get justice, when the facts come out. In Italy, they're used to say maths is not opinion. Facts either. * a certain agenda serves?
  15. Well observed, Adrian. Some people are used to move quite well into web waters LOL :-) As I could write last night on reduser but we won't be able to read it anyway once the thread is gone, «this is Jim speaking with his friends around a table in 'cafe ala Jarred' ;) I like my buddies :-) I am one of them since 2005. Dozens of thousands, as of today. RED customer since April 25th, 2006» The same for another post of mine in the same thread: «And I bet this thread will vanish in the air before other will come up... :D Be careful with the google cache, though ;-)» At reduser, it can be seen as someone abused to speak out/up against an injustice. Here, the norm of the trend is to look like... straight the opposite? Funny. Opinions. How is that web saying in english language? («Opinions are like...»)
  16. A lawyer can be many things. Counselor, consultant, fundraiser, instructor, producer/scriptwriter/director, that is, author, artist. An organizer for sure. Someone who needs other people to co-work with. Committed people -- mentoring them if/when necessary, that make them be part of the family. When we love and care our family, we do whatever it is necessary to see and know our family united and productive.
  17. I bet it is quite the opposite. A world without lawyers would be a stupid world. Almost as much stupid as a lot of stuff we're used to read online at times over some pages. Emanuel
  18. How long, Ari... Nice to see you still kicking your business up a notch :-) go blues, go ;-)
  19. True words. There's something else what can offer you a sharper 1080p outcome anyway. An hacked under $1000 GH2 camera.
  20. C'mon, we should all put a bit of salt on everything Bloom is able to write in his blogsphere or anywhere else. I respect the person and especially what he has achieved, integrity and whatever you want but, even a few minutes ago I've read he is being sponsored by Rode. We all know his connections within the industry, Canon, Sony and so on. Arri is just the latest one. So please, give me a break, please :D Jim Jannard knows very well the error he committed. IMHO he should be more grateful to people like Stephen, as for instance, who cannot have a legion of fanboys as same as Jim or Bloom, but has posted this in these same boards just a few weeks ago: http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?showtopic=54062 And it is not the first time I write it ;-) BTW, I read Bloom's article before all this controversy and didn't change my idea about what I thought then. Not even one comma of my mind. Just not posted for everyone to take a look at.
  21. For the same reason, «is it really important that you rent a camera then, rather than just owning one?» BTW, if it just depends on the market segment you are or your business is, it is rather certain that a lot of RED owners make money with others to rent them. Peace, Emanuel :-)
  22. I've even tried to put them all on my right side, but my left wing doesn't allow me to replace all of them ;-)
  23. (PS II:) Now as message to anyone who may come here to read it. These online disputes between 'apples' vs 'oranges' are the most stupid thing I've ever read. I thought I wouldn't need to come to my fourties to see people forgetting the most basic rule to be a man or a woman. We should never send to anyone in a public forum or distant from a keyboard somewhere else, what we are not able to say face to face in the real world. Facts speak outside. Higher and loudly. Stephen has had my vote not to be banned from reduser, but to be elected there to mod. No more, no less.
  24. (PS:) I wrote 'he' but I meant 'they', we instead.
  25. Well, there is at least one among other 10,000 redusers who can properly say 'he' is used to read (and learn) everything we can from this contributor, you, Stephen W. BTW, one of the best there, as usual and also often said. Cheers from Mediterranean/Adriatic, Emanuel :-)
