  1. Make it shorter and focus on either ficton or non ficton. There are really no clients that would look for both. If you want to have both areas then its better to have two diffrent showreels

  3. This is a trailer for a film I shot 1,5 years ago and its now ready for its premiere. Unfortunatly there are some shots that do not have the final grade, I hope that you can disregard this. The film was made with almost no money (around $50.000) and free equipment that we got from a local firm.   4. Anyone that knows if anyone have split diopters for rent i Sweden (or any other nordic country)? I know they are sold pretty cheap on ebay but if its possible to rent them I would prefer that.
  5. Thanks for all the respons, dont know how i managed to forget to mention that Im working with alexa. I guess you are right David, i will just go as high as I possible can. Im still not sure if we will film this during early morning or during night.
  6. Im shooting a show for swedish television that features a warehouse explosion, its still a couple of months left so I dont know what kind of pyros that will be used. I just want some general idea on exposure with 800 ISO. I will try to use one single explosion rather than typcial chain reaction that you see in action movies. I know i have to little info to make any correct predcitions what Im looking for is more of an estimate

The reason i said it might be digital was that on that trialer it actually looks like its moving a little bit strange (but looking at it again, its pretty clear that its the trees that effects it, making it look a little of) I know that this can be achived in camera as well but its also very easy to add in post. I think that today its pretty easy to get fooled by digital flares however your knowledge is alot greater than mine and if you are sure that it isnt digital I take your word for it.
  8. I think that the flare in The Tree of Life is digital. Optical flare from video co-pilot is one way to go. I do however think that it would be intresting to know what kind of lens/lensobject that would render this kind of flare
  9. I understand that you get frustraded Steve, Davids comment was kind of childish. But i have to agree that i dont really understand your question. If you just want the fastest lens then the t/1.4 is ofcourse the way to go, if you rather have a shorter lens then the 16mm might be better but its still slower Edit:Dom Jaeger has a point, are you wondering how well they proform at a specific t-stop that isnt wide open?
  10. I think one good thing for you would be to study how light reacts in real situations. I looked at you aother work and the thing that stands out is that they all look pretty lit. I think you should try to use softer sorces and not place you sorces that close to the actors, i know this is a budget isue but if you try to use the natural light a little bit more i think that can take you in the right direction
  11. Thx. It is shot on red one. I used a pretty light LUT in order to underexpose about one stop all the time and avoid blown highlights. Futher i used some diffrent low contrast filter i varius strenghts. The light package was pretty small: 2 6k hmi, 1 4k hmi, 2 jokerbugs (800 and 400) and around 10 kinos as well as some small tungsten lamps

  13. Really nice work with the format, besides for one or two shots with practicals i would never have guessed that it was digital
  14. Really tight production with only one day shoting Shot on Alexa with lomo lenses
  15. I think it looks really good. The only thing I have a problem with is the grading. The grey wall seams to change in hue a bit to much in betwen the shots.
  16. I think that depends on why you are using pro mist, what lenses you are using and if you are using it for all shots. Are you using it to lower contrast or are you using it in a "leading lady" way?
  17. Was it shot with studio lights or in the sun? There might be a UV problem, you do see this kind of stuff when you are shooting with strong ND without hotmirror
  18. I going to shot my first full-lenght feature this summer and after looking at some test and with our very low budget (less than $1,000,000) this camera seems like the best option. When I compare the footage to both canon 5d and Red one it seems to have a much better dynamic range and the fast movements dont get as distorted as with 5d. I am going to try to do as many tests as possible with lenses but since the very low budget I will have a hard time to do it as extensive as I would have liked to. So any tips on a solid set of lenses that will render sharp images with similar characteristics. All help is really appreciated.

  20. Thx Ram. I still feel that i could be better in some ways, I have a pretty hard time working towards such a commercial look. It was shot on vision 2 5218 with a set of zeiss high speed lenses.
  21. First time i post here sop be gentle... I pretty much just finished the swedish national filmschool and are now trying to do freelance work as a dop. I have a bit of problem adjusting to just be commercial and try to find something that the client likes. This job that i post here is one that im not very pleased with but i have i hard time to understand what i should have done diffrently so thats why im posting. This was a low budget work and both preproduction, production and the building of the set was very limited. The client wanted a clean but still realistic commercial look that didnt take any kind of focus. My focus was to try to make 5 diffrent movies in look but still be in the limits of what the client wanted. I orginaly had a bit more diffrence in grading in the diffrent movies but the client did not like this. The swedish voiceover pretty much just says "this program is sponsered by" http://www.lillasyster.se/mov/forkvall.html
  22. Thanks for the replies. Of course i will test several levels of flashing but since i havent done i before i dont really know i what range, im thinking 3, 4 and 5 steps underexposure. Since the colors should render normaly and im shouting outdoors im guessing that the stock will work fine but im still wondering about the question of compensating, is there any need to do so? About doing it in the post. I never really been satisfied with either "flashing" nor with adding saturation, just dont belive that i will get the same result as i will get with a "real" flash.
  23. Im going to do some test with flashing on kodak ektachcrome 100d (7285) and then do telecine for video SD usage. My idee is to get highly saturated image with soft shadows and burned out highligts. Im wondering if anybody have tried this and what kind of advice you can give me. How many steps can i flash? (since im doining test i can try several), and more important when do i need to start compensating for this in my exposure?. Will the imagecolor tint in any direction, im more after a cold rather than warm look, should i filtrate the image or could i go clean and fix it in the telecine? Is there any other stock that i more better for the look that im after?
