  2. From my understanding, and please correct me if I'm wrong, many IMAX movies are not true IMAX movies, the negative is just blown up from the 35mm negative. I just saw Fast Five in the IMAX theater last night, and it was entertaining, but am I right in thinking I'm still looking at the information captured by a 35mm negative? And not information captured by exposing a 65mm negative to the same information? I do understand that you can't shoot a movie like that, or even most movies in 65mm (cost/camera/stunts). Most scenes were nice and some even incredible, but there were a few were you really saw the soft focus(or enlargement giving the appearance of soft focus) I guess since blowing up from a 35mm negative. I did go to one of the other theaters, one of the standard size screens and the IMAX was ALOT better, in resolution, color. I imagine the movie is shot in 35mm, then edited, DI'ed with vibrant colors, and output to 65mm and 35mm, it's just the 65mm holds more vibrant color and information. Am I right? I'm kind of just going by reasonable deductions here. Another question I have is...does IMAX theaters (such as AMC Theaters) project mostly film still or are they projecting from a digital file now? Is a digital file what they call D-cinema now? The movie was fun, and it was a full theater, people were cheering and all that, had some great action scenes. It's great to see people still getting into movies. There were a couple parts that were a little over the top but you just go with it and enjoy it.   5. Hi Tyler, Whether you want to write, produce, or direct, or even be a novelist, you're going to have to get your work out there. So if you believe a structure like atmosphere like school will help you do that, then that's you're route. If you learn on your own, by reading books or naturally connecting with other filmmakers, maybe that's your way. But either way, the end requirement of what you're trying to do is getting your work out there, otherwise, what do people have to see? Hope this helps, Enrique
  6. Hi, Quick question. From my understanding, if you shoot on DV, HD, 16 or S16 etc, you will have to do a blow up to 35 for it to be shot in theatres. Now if you already shoot in 35, doesn't it still have to be transferred to tape for editing? When exactly is this blow up done? I appreciate your clarification on this, Enrique

Hi All, Quick question, if you shoot on film, regular 35mm or whatever, and then it gets telecined and put on a tape, and then you edit it and then make a print from the edited version, how does the new print have the same resolution as the original negative? Doesn't the telecine grab it at only 1K or 2K or am I missing a step here? Thanks for your time, Rick
  9. Do you find that more major studio movies are using the 2.35 aspect ratio now a days because of the emergence of 16 x 9 tv's? I guess so it will still feel like widescreen once it passes through the movies and ends up on DVD? It appears that movies that would probably would look better at 1.85, are now at 2.35, perhaps to not look like anything close to 1.78. Just a question that came up the other day. Any thoughts?

  12. Can you use a 35mm adapter lens to get true 16 x 9 and thus have a better picture (on an XL1). Thanks for your reply because that's where I'm at now. Enrique p.s. - thanks for starting this thread by the way.
