  1. nothing wrong with using blue to exagerate night a little. I agree with david, I mean I've never heard someone who didnt know the difference at the theater complain, if it sets the mood you want use it, or find some other color for your moon.
  2. ive got some film stuck to my lip, It tastes like kodak, but the emulsion looks like fuji, I think either way its yummy
  3. I'm looking for more work in the camera dept, may it be 1st AC, 2nd, or even loader, if you got an upcoming project and need someone for the position let me know. Live in the Santa Barbera area and dont mind going to LA for work, I am experienced, just want more work.
  4. I DO love lighting, I just dont like fighting lattitudinal issues with DV, especially lower end dv cameras, I always come out with something i'm proud of, for the most part, but I spend so much time working on the lighting and AD's dont like it. like last weekend, I spend 45 minutes on one set up because some practicals were a little hott and I didnt have a bulb on me lower than 100w and all I had were open faced Lowel light kits that the school provided, but I got what i wanted and did it as fast as I can, ehh this weekend was just harsh, we knocked out 14 pages in one day so time was an issue. and the AD was constantly breathing down my back. :(
  5. is there an easy way for lighting DV? I often find myself out of frustration exposing for the highlights and tossing more light on subjects. I am constantly swapping bulbs and stuff like that, and its time consuming. any good tips?
  6. thats the only reason Im going to see it, for the boobs. and to see how the IR stuff came out, Im going just for the boobs and the imagery!
  7. Has anyone shot 5205/7205 yet? if so let me know what you think, I want to shoot something on it for the hell of it. The ad in AMC looked absolutely Gorgeous!
  8. I want to shoot a 16 short in the snow. yes I know it wont be easy, but I MUST do it. Any tips? any ideas for a camera? I want to shoot this one on the XTR prod, any ideas about keeping this warm? or anycamera for that matter. share experiences and what not, no rush, just need some advice so I can begin planning and budgeting for cam dept. thanks
  9. i will be testing a Bolex and a Beauliu, shooting 7278 kodak reversal stock. i want to check the mag, make sure its not scratching, and i want to test the pin reg. and maybe i need to test other things? im not sure, any ideas please feel free to give me all you gots. later on gentleman and gentelladies.
  10. okay, say I will be shooting on Kodaks Vision2 500T, and I want like NO shadow detail. do I over rate the asa and throw more light on my subjects? how will this affect contrast grain etc...please share experiences
  11. I'm AC'ing on a feature and we are shooting on the SDX900, looks great, for the harsh video edge thing we slapped a 1/4 BPM, looks great.
  12. Magic Bullet is good, as for getting the 24P thing I use twixtor...it works great but it is an expensive program, and it takes time to learn. Cinelook is crap. complete crap. Most of getting the film look is how you shoot it, so shoot it as if you were shooting on film, be very good with the lighting, dv is not very easy to light so take your time and do it right. the better you shoot it the better the film look will come out. Allen,
  13. ok, they dates have been set. We need one for 12/5-12/8 if anyone can help us on any of those dates, preferbly the sunday of 12/5 will be the most difficult for us to swing other then getting help, that would be great. yes we CAN pay, regardless trans would be paid and food, and whatever else....please, Thanks, Allen
  14. oh, and it can be any 16 camera, preferably something with 400' mags, thats about it for requirements...thanks everyone, Allen
  15. Good point, I wasnt very specific. I will be shooting about 1 hour North of Santa Barbera. Will need it on as many weekends before december that the camera can be available. Can pay anywhere from $0 to 300(not per day), any more than that and we are pretty pressed for cash. This is the first time that the Course will be shooting on16mm, they wanted to do shoot 16mm because I have the most experience with it from any student ever in the class, and I am trying to Build my DP reel, they loved my last piece I DP'd on 16 and they want to do it so I said I will find a camera, and get the stock. I am also planning out to shoot on DV if this doesnt work out but I really really do not want to DP another DVX100 short...so if anyone can help, it would be very much appreciated. thanks, Allen
  16. Hi, I go to my local junior college and I have convinced my class to shoot the class project on 16. We have to available options for cameras, an SR2 and an Aaton LTR. The guy with the LTR wants a little too much money for the use of his LTR and the SR2 would be barrowed ffrom Brooks inst. and have to be returned immediately after use. Putting pressure on our available time to shoot. If anyone has a 16 cam that would let us rent or even Borrow ;) that would be soooooo awesome. Please let me know right away if you can contribute to our production. You may also help out if you feel like you need to be near the camera, willing to work with your requests. Thanks, Allen
  17. haha, thats halarious! note to self, "Make gaffer move lights ALWAYS!" thanks man, good tip HAHAHAHAHA!
  18. Good point Mr. Mullen, I infact enjoy being a first. I love both jobs actually. The closer i can get to the camera the more fullfilling it is for me. Being an 1st is great because at the end of the day I feel a made a difference in the Cam dept. Pulling focus, knowing that i hit my marks, then seeing everything come out sharp on the dailies is such a thrill for me. As I am starting to DP more and more I am loving it more and more. For fun I run around with my light meter and visualize how things would come out on certain circumstance. And when I'm shooting, Just being next to the camera, telling my gaffer to tweak a light here and there, telling the AC the move and watch him grab the marks, then executing the shot and watching this process through the viewfinder, frame by frame this movie coming to life, it is absolutely the most fullfilling experience in the world for me. ...damn, I need a woman, maybe 2 haha
  19. whoa, 64? well I shot an interior car scene at night on vision2 200T and a lot of it came out dark even though i was shooting Wide open and half stop under. It looks great though. I would suggest placing your 1k fairly close to the car, like almost behind giving them a backlight and let that be your moon source. I may be wrong, But I highly doubt getting anything at a 4. unless you are just so tight you can bring lights that close. Well I had a 2K as my moonlight, had 2 tweenies giving them their fill. look at my pics and hopefully I am of some help.
  20. I got a joke, haha had to at least say it here out of boredome Why shouldnt DP's Smoke? ....because it takes them 3 hours to light it! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, Thats my favorite so far
  21. Thats what everyone keeps telling me, well I guess I'll just start working on my reel. thanks
  22. Well, I dont really want to go to Filmschool and spend a lot of money in doing so, I'd rather take what experience I have and continue to 1st AC where I can...is this recommended? I am 17, still in highschool but am taking a few courses at my junior college alongside my full schedule at my highschool. I'm not really learning too much, When I graduate I'd like to get a job at a Camerahouse and I think that would help me in becoming soo familiar with all the cameras. I still have time to decide whether I should go or not, But quite of few people have told me to not go, and i feel I would do just fine without the school. what do you think?
  23. Just as stubborn as the director? man, I just dont want him mad because I cant give him what he sees. I can do my best with what he have, but I am certain it won't be as pleasing. oh, you are right about the dvx, thats funny, ok well thanks everyone,
  24. HAHA, its natural for the DVX to rattle, thats funny, best laugh Ive had all day man, thanks for that one. anyways, if we have to shoot DV i wont have enough light because i wont be able to get the lights. Dont want to shoot this scene in DV for 2 reason, there is a decent amount of noticable quality loss when one is this wide for a shot (its pretty wide, FULL hotel shot) and the 2nd reason is the DV is not going to give me enough lattitude for this, remember I have a lack of light if I shoot dv, :( plus, it wont look that great regardless, Im shooting it 16mm, i just decided, the director doesnt have a choice anymore HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! but I'm going to make him fall in love with the Idea. and shorten the script, its over written anyways. ahhh, I'll figure something out, hopefully 16, Im sick of minidv!
  25. damn that was fast, i posted that like 30 minutes ago. well thanks for all the replies. yeah David, you have a good back up for me, I like the worst case scenario thing, might come down to this. But Im sure he wont have the image he wants, I will need a lot of Light to get him this, He wants the really wide, and he said as much detail as possible, and I told him that there wont be much considering he wants to shoot wide with DV, I hate shooting wide on minidv, it always looks really bad, there is soo much loss of detail that I get embarrassed when I show the stuff, so I am going to do my best to convince him to shoot 16mm. I want to shoot on 7218 and if we did shoot 16mm the guy who is bringing me the camera FOR FREE...will also bring me some lights, a 2k, and a tweenie kit. Which would please us both. I hope he will go for it, and if he doesnt I will beat the living, i mean i will resort to the Worst case scenario thing. Its hard working with older people because they always think I'm throwin out bull**** because Im younger, But I will do my best at convincing him to do this, its either the 16mm or we shooting on the DVX crap cam, thats broken, it rattle like a baby rattle, no joke. Well thank you everyone for the replies, much appreciated. Later on, Allen
