  1. Yes, this true. The all russian films, 35 mm B&W negative, B&W print, color negative, color print and other had one type of perforation. This is square profile of hole with size 2.8 x 1.98 mm and step between perforation 4.75+/- 0.01mm. ( 0.1870 inc. ) This is film similar of Kodak KS-1870. But, the russian film can be compatible with KS-1866 perforation too, because, Kodak KS-1866 have perforation intervals between perforation 0.1866 inc = 4.74 mm +/- 0.01 ( 4.73...4.75 mm ). The russian films have 4.75 +/- 0.01mm ( 4.74...4.76 mm ). The all russian cine cameras with one transport pin ( Konvas-1, Konvas-1M, Konvas-2M, AKS-1, AKS-4 and other )compatible with all type of 35 mm films, You can load KS or BH film and the camera will work OK. The russian cine cameras with registration pins ( Kinor-35H, Temp, KSK-1, KSK-2, Rodina, PSK-29 and other), made at time of USSR , with original version of mechanism compatible with KS film only and not will work with BH film without modification. The USSR delivered special edition of some cameras ( Kinor-35 and other) on West with BH version of claw mechanism. But, all russian cameras with registration pins can be modify for BH film and many film makers use BH version of russian cameras now without problem. Now, popular russian cameras Kinor-35H, Kinor-35S, 1SKL and other. If we tell told about 16 mm cine cameras, the russian 16 mm film have similar size, perforation interval 7.62 mm +/- (0.01 mm ) = 0.3000 inch , size of perforation 1.83 x 1.27 mm with Kodak 16 mm films 1R3000, 2R3000. That's why, all russian 16 mm cine cameras with registration pin or without registration pin can use Kodak 1R3000, 2R3000 film without any problem and without any modifications.
  2. I Agree, the Mitchell standard and Mitchell high speed movements have very high qulaity of calculation, design and production. As for me, this is the highest level of design of transport mechanisms of cameras ( I not told about super modern cameras, i know not many about this design ). The many russian studio cameras have transport mechanisms with kinematic schemes similar of Mitchell.
  3. You forget other description of condition of piece. The piece can have different condition. The very good description had KEH ( seller of used photo, video equipments ). " like new , open for view only". - full work, not use. " excellent condition " - full work, but, had short time of use. " used condition", use a some time. The used device can be tested, full work and not work condition and need repair. Who can check this ? The device can check owner, if the owner know, what need do. The many owner told, what know not any about device, or wish tell this only. That's why, you have not any guarantee, what you buy. If the seller say " as is ", the seller know not condition of device, can not test and you buy, what you see. This can be full scrap metal , but, this can work too. This is a some intrigue for buyer, like roulette wheel. That's why, the seller must be ready to received full scap metal or body with empty inside. And, the price of device with condition " as is " must be like price of scrap metal or price of body only. The many devices on e-buy sell private person, and not good idea to ask of full guarantee from old owner. The old owner not manufacturer and can not give you guarantee of manufacturer. You can buy new device from shop or manufacturer with full guarantee of manufacturer, but, the device can have high price and you not wish pay big price. That's why, we seek second hand device with small price. That's why, we agree take a some risk of condition of device. I buy devices from e-buy too and had devices with very good condition and had devices with problem. The other big side of this problem - real swindling. This is, if you pay and not receive device or receive other device. The seller told about high work condition of device, you received " scrap metal ", and more ets. Yes of course, if the device have serious defect and seller told about excellent work condition- this is swindling And need give customer complaint and ask about return of device. But, what return of money ? This can be not possible.
  4. This is very good, what you begin of processing of film at home. You need study of processing of film again and more detailed. You processing of 16 mm color negative film XRT 200 T with D76 B&W negative developer ? And you receive result ? You lucky. What with rem-jet backing ? Your chemistry must be dirty. I know not, what need answer. I recommend you take B&W reversal films ( Kodak, FOMA ), take correct chemistry and you will receive good result. I made test with color negative film and processing of C41 chemistry, but, I not test of color negative film and B&W chemistry. You can check idea of use of C41 chemistry for 7293 films. Yes, this not correct idea and rem-jet layer dirty of chemistry and film, but, you can have not bad result and to print color photo from your negative film on photo print lab.
  5. Any person to have the right to have personal opinion. But, I recommend study theory of mechanisms I can recommend of book of Harald Weise ( Koln) " Die Kinematographische kamera ". (I have russian edition, Moskov 1958). You can study more other books with theory of kinematic schemes of cine cameras. I not told about difference of kinematic schemes of claw mechanisms of different cameras, about formulas for calculation of trajectory of transport pin. I not told about calculation of volume stability of trajectory of transport pin. I can not explain of all theory of kinematic schemes, but, i will show one picture only. I wish underline, this is theoretical idea of one type of transport mechanism only and not to show a real mechanism of real camera. This is picture show of trajectory of transport pin ( transport mechanism with one transport pin ) of one type of mechanism with different point of contact between film and transport pin. You can see, the size of moving of film depend from point of contact film with transport pin. The Theoretically, the film can bend from surface of film gate and change point of contact with transport pin. The transport mechanisms can have one, two, four and more registration pins. The registration pins can adjust position of film on horistonal and verstical axises. A some D8 cameras had registration pin too.
  6. I not support of Nathan's idea. If you check of theory of claw mechanisms , theory of claw moving, you can see, the final point of claw move - unstable point on motion path of claw. This point depend from condition of parts of claw mechanism, running clearance between parts and more ets. This is point can change position from surface deterioration of parts. That's why, the designers use a registration pin for receiving a high volume of stability of frame on all time of life of camera. If anybody interesting, i can confirm of my words of diagrams of mechanism. Yes, the version of transport mechanism of camera with registration pin or without registration pin depend on the designer priorities and price of camera. The mechanism with registration pin have additional parts of control of registration pin and have more high price. I not told, what the camera without registration pin - not good camera. We have many very good cameras without registration pin. But, the every film maker can answer. You need camera with registration pin or without registration pin. I wish underline again. If you need of 16 mm cine camera with low cost and high volume of technical characteristics, you need check information about Kinor-16 SX-2M . Russian 16 mm professional cine camera Kinor-16 SX-2M have transport mechanism with registration pin. And this camera have low price now. If anybody interest, can check old letters on forum or ask me. Kinor-16 SX-2M camera , reflex cine camera with mono lens mount, can use 100 ft, 400 ft film magazines. The camera have electrical motor with 12 v DC, have analog system of speed stabilization ( +/- 2.5% ) have Pilot-Tone system. The motor can be modify on multi speed crystal synch with modern microprocessor control. The camera can have prime lenses from 6 mm up to 300 mm, zoom lenses 7.5-75 mm, 10-100 mm, 12-120 mm and other.
  7. Hello Jim. At first, this is camera can be made at 1990..1992 and, i think, storage of long time without any service. You need this about full service of camera with adjust of optical parts. About your problem. I cannot answer you with confidence , because, i not see camera and can not test this. But. This show like work of system of stoping mirror disk at fixed position. What long time a " stumble slowly " ? 2-3 sec or 10..20 sec ? If, this 2-3 sec, this normal. You press on stop button and electronics to switch on stop mode. The electronics run procedure of stoping a mirror disk on fixed position. The control of motor set a low speed and read signal from optical sensor of mirror disk. ( position of mirror disk ). If the disk set on fixed position ( mirror disk set on position for view ) the motor stoped. If the motor can not stop a mirror disk on fixed position, the motor will turn a mirror disk up to set on fixed position. If you have more question, you can ask me. If you will need service of Kinor camera, can ask me too. I can modify of old russian electronics and set ,modern module with microprocessor speed control with many crystal sych and other technical possibilities.
  8. If you take LOMO ( or any other lens ) serviced, adjusted with standard flange focal distance of optical block ( 61 mm +/- 0.01 mm), you set lens on adjusted camera with standard flange focal distance of lens mount ( 61.00 +/- 0.01 mm ), the marks of distance printed on focus ring will similar of real distances of focused lens between camera and subject. If the lens or lens mount of camera will have flange focal distance with not standard size( not 61.00 +/- 0.01 mm ), the real distances focused lens between camera and subject will not coincide with marks on focus ring of lens.
  9. Yes, Druzba ( big weight studio cine camera ) have AC motor with 50 HZ main power. But, Druzba can have DC motor too. About special IR film on acetate base, this can be two color film with one IR layer and one " normal" layer for scientific reasearch purposes. This film have two difference color pictures after processing. First IR picture, second " normal " picture. This is very interesting information. And other. I think, you need check films of Sergey Urusevskiy too http://www.peoples.ru/art/cinema/producer/urusevskiy/ Movie " Letyat jyravli " 1957
  10. You can ask Frank Super8 Reversal Lab NL [info@super8.nl] Frank can send film to USA,or Frank can know deales in the USA.
  11. M42 screw mount lenses have flange focal distance 45.5 mm C-mount lenses have flabge focal distance 17.52 mm. I not see draft of this adapter, but, i can suppose, they set C-mount lens on M42 flange focal distance. 45.5-17.52 = 27.98 mm, this is super macro mode for C-mount lens. I don,t know what focusing distance will have this system, possible 2....5 sm. You need macro shoots ?
  12. Hi. I agree of yoru idea, what this is great film. This is one from films of great russian DOP's Mixail Kolatozov ( Kolotashvilli ) and Sergey Urusevsky. I not supportof idea, what this is full propagandistic film. The great work of DOPs not damage of any idea. About technical side. I have not full confirmed information about technical side of this film, but, a some supposition. This is handheld style of shooting ( Sergey Urusevskiy used this style ) with Konvas-1 camera and super wide lenses 16 mm and other. About films, i not think, what this is 6400 ASA. The 90 % of all russian films use Svema or Tasma films. Svema had T42 1200 ASA films with sensitivity at IR zone. Tasma had T17 film. I had experience of use of T42 film and push film up to 1800..2000 ASA, but, not 6400. This is film have a some sensitivity at IR zone and footages with red filters very good. I have not any confirmation, what T42 film use on this film. Possible , at 1960.,, Svema had film similar T42. T42 film have high contrast and if you posh , the contrast increase. If you use low contrast developer, the speed of film diminish on 300. 400 ASA. Svema have very good cine films A2SH, 320 ASA. This is film can be push up to 700..800 ASA . This is film can be processing with very low contrast and have speed 60..120 ASA. The filters can cut volume of contrast too. This was very popular film for shooting at USSR. The other type of films ( Svema ) NK-2SH 100 ASA, ( Tasma ) KN-1, KN-2, KN-3, KN-4 . Any case, this is great work of great DOPs. About video. To edit on computer or film shooting .
  13. You wrote : ====I used some old agfa s8 moviechrome, a 2 reel 35mm processing tank and a e6 kit. At first, If you beginner of home film processing, i recommend begin from study of B&W reversal film processing. This is processing with not high temperature, not need super precision time processing and result will more real. After you will have experience on processing of B&W reversal film, you can process of color reversal films. The color reversal film processing need high stability temperature and fixed time processing, because, all this parameters influence of color balance and quality of image on film. At second. Old Agfa Seper 8 moviechrome film have original Agfa ( Svema ) technology processing with temperature 25 'C. The high temperature of E-6 can destroy of emulsion. You can use E-6 ( I make this test ) but, with less temperature, and need make a some tests. You wrote :===My thermometer didnt work so I guessed the temperature (luke warm?). Was the wash between 1st stage and developer too hot? The temperature of first developing and second color developing very important. The important step of pre-bath too ( before first developing ). The temperature of first developing must be 38 +/- 0.3 C, the second color developing 38 +/- 0.5C. The developers must have similar temperature too. That's why, i stabilize of temperature of developers, tank with film on big basin with water and electronic heater with control of temperature lab thermometer. This is not too complex, but, need have experience. Not worry too much, the russian saying : " you must spoil before you spin, practice makes perfect ". That's why, you need study of processing of film again. If you wish make experiments with B&W reversal films, i can help you. The additional information about home film processing you can find on my site " home film processing ". I can delievery set chemistry for processing B&W reversal film, film dryer and other.
  14. Quarz -5 russian D8 ( Double standard 8, 2x8 ) camera. This camera can use film with wide 16 mm, with holes with size of perforation of 16 mm film, but, the step between perforation 1/2 from step of 16 mm perforation. If you visit of my site about russian cine cameras, you can find page with images about different type of films. You can use Fima D8 ( 2x8 ) B&W reversal 100 ASA film. I don't know other type of film with D8 perforation. 16 mm, Single 8, DS8, Super 8 films not compatible with Quarz -5 camera, need Double 8, D8 film only. The inofrmatrion about Quarz-5 and other russian cameras you can see on my site too.
  15. I can tell technical side of registration of the Konvas-1M, 2 M cameras. Konvas camera have one transport pin only. The registration of film on film gate make with parts of film magazine. The film magazine have film channel with slide rails for film with two pressure small plates from side of film. This is part fixed position of film from side. The next part of film channel- pressure plate with two small springs. This is plate pressing a film on film gate and fixing film on time of exposing. The pressure of a pressure plate to check at service of camera. The user manual show volume of stability of frames 0.02 mm. The cameras with registration pins have 0.01 mm. The serviced Konvas cameras have high result of test of stability frames. If you will need, icans end images of this parts of Konvas cameras.
  16. Dear film makers. Whether a beginner or a skilled cameraman, unloading your 1st or 100th film you really should consider developing your own film in a home made lab. The standard processing of a film in a commercial film lab does not give you the opportunity to maximise the potential of your film. Experimenting with the standard procedures of processing of a film or using special procedures can help you achieve special expressive effects, which would not be duplicted in a commercial lab. Only individual, manual processing of a film allows you to realise the full to use potential of a film. I will glad discuss with you a information about home film processing, manual film processing, processing Super 8, Double 8, 16 mm, 35 mm films, B&W negative, B&W reversal, color reversal films. The individual, manual processing of a film in a home laboratory is a first step on the road to achieving the full range of cinematic skills. You have film and you wish processing this film. You wish know, what devices need you for this. 1. You need wish of processing of film at home 2. You will need device for processing of film. This can be spiral processing tank, small procesisng machine or other. 3. You will need chemical components for preparation solutions for processing of film. This can be set of chemistry or chemical components. 4. You need glass lab ware for preparation of slututions, thermometer, stop-watch, other devices. 5. You need devices for dry of film. This can be universal film dryer or other device. You can begin of processing film. The every film and every set chemistry have detailed instruction, what need do. You need repeat of this instructions and all will OK. After processing, you can edit of film and show for your friends. The long time personal experience of processing a film at home lab give me possibility to recommend home film processing technology for other film makers too. I glad answer on all your questions and explain of all steps and details of home film processing. You can see information about home film processing, manual film processing, processing Super 8, Double 8, 16 mm, 35 mm films, B&W negative, B&W reversal, color reversal films on my site http://www.geocities.com/cinetank or you can send me questions by forum or personal e-mail olex@a-teleport.com
  17. Hi Yes, I hope, this is modification will interest for many film mmakers. The many Konvas-1M, Konvas-2M cameras have 15EPSS motor with non-crystal sync speeds and rare battery 8.5 v. The modification can have a few versions. I can send you full technical description of every version of modification if you send me request on my e-mail olex@a-teleport.com The price of modification from 350 Euros.
  18. You can check Elite Optics Super 35 prime lenses of fast serie. http://www.slowmotioninc.com/sales/35_lenses.htm This is lenses availabele for rent too.
  19. Please, visit of my site. You can see description of Krasnogorsk-1, Krasnogorsk-2 and Krasnogorsk-3 cameras. If you send me letter on olex@a-teleport.com i will send more pictures. You need metal film cartrridge of Kranosgorsk-1 or Kranosgorsk-2 cameras. This is cartridges included two cores, one core for film. The film core have diameter 15.8 mm, height 15.4 mm, inside hole 2 mm. You need wind of 16 mm film on this core and diameter of roll of film must be not more 80 mm. You can set roll of filml inside metal cartidge and set cartidge inside camera. This is very easy. Kranosgorsk-1, 2 cameras have very good system of metal film cartridge. This is cartridge protecting of exposed and unexposed film. You can open lid of camera at any time and you will lost 10 sm of film only. ( you will exposed 0.1 m of film only) You can check film on film track, re-loading of film. If you use a few films with difference speeds for shooting or D and T films, the metal film cartridges will work very good. You need have a few cartridges. You can set first cardtidge with one film on cameras, shoot a some footages , unload camera and set other cartridge with other film and shoot again. The fist cartdidge you can set inside camera at any time and continue of shooting. If you ask about 100 ft daylight spools, Sorry, K-1, and K-2 not compatible with 100 ft spools. You will need rewind film on core. Frankly speaking, 16 mm film on 400 ft rolls have less price from on 100 ft spools.
  20. HI. Possible, we must show information about equipment for sell or for buy on forum ? Need open special topic " For sell " and " WTB " ? Yes, the business reputation of e-buy to falling. But. The many peoples wish to sell and to buy equipments and what need do ? Possible, need use service of middleman ? Theoretically. If the seller of equipment from one country, the buyer from other country. The buyer not trust of seller, but, the buyer trust of middleman from country of seller. The seller send equipment to middleman. If the buyer need additional service, The middleman check, test of equipment, if need, shoot of photos from equipment and send conclusion for seller and buyer and send confirm to seller for send money. If the buyer receive money from seller, the middleman send equipment to buyer. If the buyer not send money, the equipmnet return to seller. From other side, if you wish buy used jewelry you go to jeweller. If you wish buy or sell immovable property, you go to mercantile agency. Possible, we need buy-sell union too ? The person of middleman can be elective. But, this possible with equipment with high price. Yes, of course, the middleman must have fee. But, the additional guarantee can be more important from fee. Yes, of course, the middleman must have high business reputation, high confidence, must have technical knowledge about equipments. From my side, i can propose help iniside Ukraine, possible, Russia, Belarus.
  21. HI. Super 8, DS8 russian Quarz 1x8S-2, Quarz 1x8S-XL, Quarz 2x8S-3, user manual, CoC 0.02 mm 16 mm USSR standard of professional cine cameras - 0.0149 mm USSR Krasnogorsk-3 camera user manual of Merteor-5 zoom lens CoC for 17 mm zoom position - 0.018 mm, CoC for 32 mm and 69 mm zoom position 0.022 mm USA 0.001' = 0.025mm Cooke 0.0005' = 0.0127 mm 35 mm cine cameras USSR standard 0.032 mm USA 0.002' = 0.05 mm Cooke 0.001' = 0.025 mm 70 mm cine cameras USSR standard 0.03 mm
  22. Not worry too much. I don't know, how many films you have. If you have a few 400 ft rolls with similar number of emulsion, this can be use. You need take short end of your film ( 1..2 m ), go to processing lab and order test of film ( sensitometric test). The lab tell you real speed of film and other characteristics of film. You will know real date of manufacturing of film from Dx code, because, DX code will show you real date of film manufacturing. You can make simple test too. You need shoot a few test shots of Kodak color scale and Kodak grey scale with difference aperture. ( set speed of film on exposure meter 160 ASA, 100 ASA, 80ASA, 64 ASA. 50 ASA, 40 ASA, 32ASA, 20 ASA). After processing, you need choose better test shots. And you will know, what final speed have your film and what speed need use for shooting. I don't know, but, from my experience with color negative and color reversal films, the 3 years old film lost near 50 % of speed. I will glad to know opinion of other filmmakers about use of old stock of film.
  23. The some technical information. Russian 35 mm cine camera Konvas-1 can have two version of hand cranks. The one hand crank you can set on base axis of mechanism and have one turn of hand crank- one frame of shooting. This is version of hand crank good for single frame shooting. The second version of hand crank set instead of DC motor and you can have normal speed of shooting 18..24 fps. You will have speed 24 fps with rotate of hand crank , like speed one turn by one second.
  24. I congratulate you. I processing old film too, This was B&W reversal and color reversal films, shooted at 1985...1990 ( maybe ). I use double time of processing and have a some result. B&W reversal film had better result from color reversal. You told about 2 weeks in a fixing bath. You can tell detailed. You use this bath with processed film or inside processing of film ? Yes, the fixing bath can clarify a some pictures on film. I do this after make of first B&W develiping, clean. But, this must be fast bath, 10..20 sec only. A bout your second films, this is fantastic. I think, this was B&W negative film, because, B&W reversal film must be full dark after negative processing.
  25. At finish, you need film or video tape ? You not think use traditional 35 mm cine film shooting technology ? 35 mm anamorphic film shooting -processing of film- edit of film - print anamorphic positive copy. or 35 mm anamorphic film shooting - processing of film - digital film scnner - digital postproduction - digital film printer of positive copy . or 35 mm Super 35 film shooting with mask ...... print anamorphic positive copy. The 2x compression on final stage have very good quality of image.
