  1. No, I'm pretty sure he meant a Fisher 20, just like he said. And yes, it will work fine with any Mitchell Head or ball head with Mitchell adapter.
  2. I haven't seen your DVD's and knowing your experience level I'm sure it's covered; but the single biggest lack of knowledge I've seen from people coming right out of (low to mid level) film/photography schools is how to control light. Alot of these kids are just getting taught how to get the proper exposure level and are totally fascinated by seeing the grips build flag city around a big bounced source. I'm sure you've seen many student films, and it's clear most of these people are just bouncing lights off the ceiling.
  3. In this particular context, it's probably a cheap piece of frosted plastic covering the bare bulbs (probably flourescent in this instance) to soften it even further.
  4. Not only could the first 100 get their money back with interest as you mentioned, but they were essentially warned that the cameras were in beta stage. Customers were given the opportunity to keep their place in line and wait until the camera was fully functional. They were not forced to take delivery of the camera at this unfinished stage. One could actually argue that since customers were NOT forced to take delivery or lose their place in line, then Red probably could have gotten away with not replacing these cameras and just enabling the features via firmware (which is the only thing Red actually promised to do). Absolutely no problem with how they handled this situation. Quite generous.
  5. I don't think anyone could really blame her for not wanting to be with Larry. What makes the show funny is that he's pretty much a sociopath. Doesn't really seem like they're portraying her to be a gold digger either. To me some of the funniest scenes in the series are when Larry is being completely outrageous and she hardly reacts and just gives him some hilarious glare. Case in point, the scene this season at Danson's party when he gives the "Freak Book" as a birthday present.
  6. Elswit, There Will Be Blood mark my words, There Will Be Oscars
  7. Cable/Satellite On Demand is expanding too, in addition to the options already mentioned. Too bad the compression is terrible (for now)!
  8. Try taking a photography (or maybe even a film production?) class at your local community college. We get interns from these programs and although they end up knowing little about controlling the light, they at least had access to the equipment and learned how to expose properly.
  9. ?Don't play what's there, play what's not there.? -Miles Davis
  10. If you don't have room for track I've had pretty good luck with the Matthews Roundy-Round dolly if the floor is VERY smooth and you have a good Dolly Grip. Cheap rental too. You can put it on track too if you DO have the room. Good low budget option.
  11. You should give some thought to the setting of the speech also. You might want to mention to your contact that having to use regular bank style kinos will necessitate having to have them very close. Depending on the setting of the speech this might be distracting to the audience that is in attendance. This might be something they haven't thought of. If the budget won't allow HMI's, then diffused Source Four's will be the best option and really won't even be a compromise. You can back these up quite a bit and not distract the audience. Parabeams were a great suggestion, although they will be a little more expensive than the ETCs. The Source Fours will allow you to get more bang for your buck and you can get a couple extra units in case you need some light for the background as well. Good luck!
  12. he said it was the same outlet. I don't have an answer though, even the old design should kill it before an overload, it MUST be a coincidence, crazy though it is...
  13. Let me know if you change your mind about shipping the sticks/head. We can just use my FedEx or UPS account. You can e-mail me at info@ahptic.com Thanks!
  14. Are you kidding or serious? Where have you seen that he actually DENIGRATES the contribution of his "gaffers" specifically? I mean, if he never specifically mentioned them in some interview, does that mean that Kubrick thought gaffers were a waste of budget? From what I can see after watching Soderbergh's films gaffers get full credit, and from what I know for sure, all the checks have cleared.
