  1. That's pity. The index would be really useful, I think. I started making one myself for 2007-2008 issues. Do you have your index somewhere on the web, David? Would be really helpful for looking for particular articles. Thanks!
  2. I love American Cinematographer. My uni has a good collection of AC mags from 90's onwards. But looking for a particular article on a particular film becomes a problem sometimes. I have searched the forum, and found an old 2005 topic. At that point the answer to the question (Is there a list of articles/films covering all the issues?) was 'no'. I have found a great resource today: http://www.theasc.com/magazine/archive.htm It covers all the articles from 1998 to 2006 (except 2001) stating the films' titles, instead of the articles' titles. My question is - is there this kind of list for all the mags? Or at least - for 2007-2008? Because on the official theasc.com the article index for 2007-2009 is covered by listing the articles' titles, not the films. This is pointless, and makes looking for an article on a particular film quite hard. Thanks.
  3. When you are shooting at 320 do you ask lab to process and print as normal? Or do you pull? Thanks.
  4. Make sure you understand, how light meter works and what exactly it shows. I'm not kidding. A lot of first-time film projects in uni where way underexposed because DPs couldn't figure out what exactly does this thing with white hemisphere shows.

  6. That's interesting. I honestly never knew about this. But then, how do Arri and Panavision are happy to take young people for 'work experience' for a week? They don't pay. Surely, there is some kind of a workaround...
  7. http://dofmaster.com/doftable.html At 2.8 (how 'early' is the morning? ;) 12mm lens will give you 5'9'' to ∞, when set at 12'. Pretty usable. Basically, the wider you go, the better. Plus, f-stop, of course.
  8. So, Phil, are websites like shootingpeople, talentcircle and mandy actually acting illegal by offering 'collaborations' - working for expenses?
  9. It's the IMAX shot - went to see it tonight on The Big Screen. Again.
  10. Can't remember, really. I was always interested in photography. I think Zvyaginstev's 'The Return' was a 'click' for me. Ah, and my grandma's neighbour had like a big old VHS camera. I was about five, when I saw it, when was at grandma's in summer. Still remember it.
  11. I bet it is :) Interestingly, I don't see two pictures (from left and right eye) combined in one (that's how majority of people see, if I'm right). 3D tricks and 'red-blue glasses' stereo cinema never worked for me. My brain splits the pictures from both eyes into two, and I see on at a time - from right or left eye. Quite useful, when operating with both eyes open :)
  12. Freaking Hell, that must be unusual! And cool.
  13. Nice, but I would love more wide shots in the reel. At the moment 98% of the shots are MIDs and CUs. Good luck!
  14. I think, second time I watched the film I realised it is someone's head. I mean, if I remember correctly, I noticed it first time I've seen the film as well, but I didn't realise it had an actual meaning - I thought it is some kind of transfer/print artifact.
  15. Ah, ok. I thought you meant a chart. No worries.
  16. I think for the sake of the experiment it would be more interesting to give the clip without saying when the flash appears. So the person watching is not getting ready for 3:06 by concentrating his full attention to the inserted frame, but watches the clip as it goes.

  19. AC mentioned that they worked on Baz's Chanel No.5 shoot. She DP'd it for him, and after that Baz gave her 'Australia'. 'Variety' seems to agree on this: http://www.variety.com/article/VR111798754...yid=13&cs=1 Baz's Chanel No.5 ad: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nfoMbir_Qd4
  20. Ah, yes! I saw it - completely forgot about this. Fincher, bloody Hell. And a week ago he told in QA session there is no wife's head :) Cheeky.
