  1. In few months time Ferrania is expected to start delivery of their restarted-production reversal film to their kickstarter supporters. One would assume that after that they could start normal production. And hopefully of Super-8 too. Better support them too when there are still lots to subscribe to :)
  2. 100D is discontinued and what you can find now is people are selling from old stock at extra extra premium prices :( Currently you would be limited to Aviphot 200D which in the USA would be best bougth from Filminternational. It is standard E6 processing, best done through Dwayne's
  3. That would put more load on the projector which is already under duress The info section is really useful: http://looper8.ch/english/useful-info/
  4. Found it: http://looper8.ch/ In my experience shipping from Switserland is a real put off. And not to forget the import/export troubles as they are not in EU. But maybe he has a partner in UK
  5. You need a display copy/copies of the film to be shown. Running it some 10 hours per day for a month will wreck your original. You will need two or more projectors of the same brand and model for easy replacing when something breaks. Rental projector have no-looper conditions for good reason :) If there is no soundfilm then don't use a sound-projector. Find a model which can put the lamp on a reduced voltage. This will save the lamp from burning up too soon and it will save the film itself. Keep a stack of lamps at hand. You might want to check if the machine set-up can use a movement detector and thus only run it when there is somebody in the neighourhood. You will need a looper. There is one modern fancy thing of which I don't have the website at hand. There are universal things from yesteryear. Like the NORIS attachment and also there is a spool set from GePe. How well these will do in a museum set up? Homebrew might work too. Fix a large flat (8mm depth) upstanding plexiglass box beneath the projector and more of these types. Don't expect the projector to shove the film up whole day long.
  6. Have a look here for some stills from films which have been in the keeping for decades: http://www.filmrescue.com/samples/
  7. Which had little to with you keeping the film too long. Either it was already extremely expired or processing f-ed up. People find 20 year old find and have these processed into perfectly good images.
  8. There is no need to refrigerate when it is stored for some weeks or months. As the films are no longer in their sealed factory bag it is far more risky that it well get moist.
  9. Weeks or months don't make a difference at all as long as you keep your films from being cooked in a car-dashboard or such.
  10. If you can still operate the aperture you could still use the camera with a handheld meter. Nice and quiet. Repair would be costly and probably you would be better to get a known good one. The belt version of the 715xl is a nice camera too. Good lens and quiet. The lame thing is that such an expensive camera only reads two filmspeeds. But is has good manual control and very good filming speed.
  11. When rotating the pick-up axis the wrong way one would break the anti-reverse. Some do this on on purpose for experiment of reversing film. Strictly the cartridge can still be operated. The camerawill quickly pick-up the slack and will not allow reverse transport lightly. Who needs that these days?
  12. You could do this test a few times. Only a few frames per run suffices. Normally cartridges should run from start to end without trouble. As this one doesn't you may want to keep the supply loose by tapping the side a bit and vibrate/rotate around the axis.
  13. If sliding the film past the cartridge gate using fingergrip doesn't work the film is stuck on the supply side. The cameraclaw will never be able to slide it further either. When after tapping the cartridge the film still doesn't move it stuck real good. On factory cartridges this should not happen as there is a sliding foil and a core-ring. Homebrew cartrdiges can lock up when the core-ring is left out. The film grips the hub then and after pulling somewhat the film will be real tight. The only way to save the film is to crack the hull and use it for experiments in Kaccema or modified S8 standard cartrdiges.
  14. Yeah, solid supplier. Impatient people are so spoiled with updates for every move and fart on their order from large webshops that these regular shops who just do their work without yapping are publicly shamed or doubted for nothing. Obviously BlueCiné cannot spend so many hours on emailing about regular handling aspects. He is trying to make a living. EU and UK buyers can safely purchase all ciné goods from him.
  15. Estate, attic or cellarfinds have always been without use and maintenance for some 30 years now. These statements that it is the worst find from eBay should be taken with a grain of salt. It is an easy argument. Mostly there is nothing broken but overhaul work on these aged cameras easily takes Euro 300-400 when sent to professional workshops like Bjorn, Wittner et al. And you would still need a battery :( Leaving it with the repairmain makes it a free partsspender or they overhaul it and will sell it after that. You could have sent it back to the seller (if he takes it back) from the repairaddress. Saves one postaltrip. Simple 2kg shipping around Europe takes about Euro 8-10. Don't bother with the luxe express pick-up-services from UPS/Fedex etc which are, on your expense, favoured by these workshops.
  16. How frequent do they screw up? Once per 10 is already way too much at these pricelevels. Glad they aren't in car repairs :)
  17. Logmar will not supply to customers residing in the USA. That is part of the pro8mm dealership.
  18. There are other US suppliers for S8 gear and materials. Using late model low mileage top cameras like your Canon 1014xls, Leicina special or NIKON R10 you can shoot S8 until your retirement. It seems you would only be stuck with pro8mm when you would want to purchase a Logmar. There is no real advantage to the Logmar unless you are in pro studio filmmaking.
  19. The kickstarter prices aren't the future retail prices. The films are a reward for the supporters. Much of the pledged money-amount is to be used to get things started.
  20. Why would you think that. Better check their website and see how things are faring.
  21. There is no point in bringing up images or experiences from 30 years ago. Just wait for the first production and see what advances were achieved.
  22. So, it is an off the wall transfer?
  23. The photokina was nice as I spent the best part of saturday but it had very little on show for silver-halide workers. It is very much a business to business fair. All kinds of obscure gear, print services, albums, frames, software etcetc In this digital age they really need to run the show yearly rather than every two years. I walked by the JOBO booth and didn't notice the S8 insidedrum. They were playing with it somewhere backstage? The booth was mostly packed with digital image frames and such. Good news that even think of ciné processing. Although I would be surprised if they manage to sell 500 pieces at all. Who knows though. Have they found the moulds for the Expert-drums themselves? Many important moulds were sold/destroyed after JOBO went bankrupt some years ago. That is why it took forever to get new CPP in production. Only FOMA had a booth completely packed with silver materials. Ilford only had brochures and not even some real paper. The hand-out sample was a digital reproduction. Even Fotoimpex only had a very small booth and only some bottles of chemistry on display. They have booth only to shake hand and receive guests? Kodak showing off a app for image enhancement. They used to have a floor of their own with all kinds of shows and demonstration going continuosly. Fuji had plenty digital going on but did nicely with the Instax gear. Even new models and a on Instax printer for phone usage. If only the packs weren't so expensive. Things would be better if there were a hall(part) with analogue only. Or a show on its own. Shorter and on a location nearby but of its own.
