  1. Hi, I have had a D70 for 4 months and can recomend it. Cheers, Stephen Williams DP www.stephenw.com
  2. Hi, Exactly! An old aerial image, optical printer or Oxberry from E-Bay! Stephen
  3. Hi, Generally slower lenses of the same vintage are better quality. Stephen
  4. Hi Thats correct there is no conversion , a 16x9 will only display correctly on a 16x9 monitor and 4x3 on a 4x3 monitor! Stephen
  5. Hi, I think for telecine you can overexpose without pull processing. For Printing I would pull process 1/2 stop and overexpose 1/2 stop. The pull process will have slightly less contrast and slightly less grain. Stephen
  6. Hi, A shoot out was done at Cinegear between the D20, Dalsa, Genesis, and 35mm film. Panavision I believe are yet to post any pictures For D20 http://www.arri.de/prod/cam/d_20/d_20_images.htm The Dalsa Images were immediately available on the CML site. Stephen
  7. I guess he has based it on a film camea, quite possible. Stephen
  8. I think Stuart is correct. I have Paul Wheeler's book in front of me, what page should I look at? Stephen
  9. Dniel, Lens theory suggests that if your shooting at T4 a lens that only opens to T2 should be better than one that opens to T1.4 as the light has to travel through less glass. I guess the Master Primes are an exception! Stephen Williams DP www.stephenw.com
  10. Hi, You won't have any problems. If your lenses are T1.4 you could work with practicals! With 500 ASA candlelight is enough! With an 85 filter, outside in the sun would be around T16! Stephen Williams DP Zurich www.stephenw.com
  11. Hi, 16x9 anamorphic will get you the full resoloution available from the digibeta. In 2 hours I will see such a demonstration, from the end of the year all commercials for the cinema in Switzerland have to be delivered digitally. The highest quality is SD digibeta, and thats not a Joke! Stephen Williams DP Zurich www.stephenw.com
  12. Phil, He says he made his own scanner, so no transfer costs. Just film and processing. Stephen
  13. Ask your local lab, they may say no but offer to let you do it yourself in their darkroom! Stephen Williams DP www.stephenw.com
  14. Hi, Any film shot with an Oxberry will have the keycode on the wrong side! The Magazine is on the bottom and the film runs backwards! As neg cutting is done by hand its not a problem, if you had a print. However your telecine copy won't have the keycode dada. You will have to calculate the neg cut from timecode. Stephen Williams DP once operated an Oxberry! www.stephenw.com
  15. Hi, Super 8 Quality with 35mm DOF ! I could try a mini 35 adapter to super 8 but that would cost more, as I own my own 35mm kit! Stephen
  16. I have made some further tests shooting on Kodak 5274 overexposing by 7 and 8 stops in full sunshine. www.stephenw.com/thb7.tif (+ 7 stops ungraded) www.stephenw.com/thb8.tif (+ 8 Stops graded more neutral) Stephen Williams DoP Zurich www.stephenw.com
  17. Hi, I guessed it was a Diamond, I am a big fan of a C-Reality as well! Stephen
  18. Hi, I've only had the budget for S4's on 2 jobs, but wow they blow away the Super Speeds. Wide open at T2 they are so clean and beautifally sharp. They look fantastic just through the viewfinder. I used them 1 stop wider than I would have on SuperSpeeds, in the T2-2.8 range. The focus scales are also so much better than on my own set of Super Speeds. Stephen
  19. Hi, Film was the news gathering medium for over 50 Years! David Samuelson was able to manage a 35mm Mitchell BNC on his own! Stephen
  20. Hi, I prefer the C- Reality to a Spirit but the local facility sold the C-Reality and bought a Shadow! Stephen
  21. Hi, I know what you mean! I did a shoot in Spain and the production manager was very put out that I only wanted an Arri 435, 2mags,3 Lenses, Lightweight Matt Box, 4 Filters , and hand held unit! No tripod, No Video, No Chargers! Stephen
  22. Hi, Sounds like a big budget shoot, lots of toys, video assist etc! If you ever need to work in the mountains I find everything will go in a rucksack. Stephen Williams DP www.stephenw.com
  23. A Cintel Mk 3 with a new tube can look great! Noiser than a Spirit for 16mm. A Mk 3 with a worn out tube or run with low beam current looks very bad. I would ask for your money back for that transfer! Stephen
