  1. That's really great to know, guys, thanks loads! Yeah, actually, can be either Bolex or Ari16s, its all about to get that lovely pictures! Chris, all lenses I'm getting are RX, no exception. I've made sure to do that. Ian, I'll double-check the company, thanks for the tip. I've heard of such things. Great post! Thanks all! Flavio
  2. I found out that the serial number on my Bolex El is "scratched". Seller says its normal and saw this on many Bolex bodies. As I will pay to convert it to ultra16, I wonder if would be better change for a Super16 instead that has a serial number? I know there's come issues on convertin Super16 to Ultra16 though... They say you can't go back to original as you could with a standard 16mm? Is that true? I thought this could compromise if I decide to sell it one day. If it wouldn't I won;t bother to ask to change it as it can be a waste of time. Any advice would help. Thanks, Flavio
  3. Hi Oliver. How did you operate to re-cell your EL battery? I'm about to receive My Bolex El and I know it will come with the battery dead. Any little helps. Thanks,
  4. Hey, Don! Sorry, I forgot. I give your 2 cents for the Tequila when we in Mexico one day... Who knows? Chris, maybe I've put the wrong way. I mean regarding the registration I mean, that I read in this forum makes a lot of difference. Thanks, Flavio
  5. Hi guys! Thanks loads for the advices! I was almost ginving up to invest on the set. Especially Ian, for the PIN registration that I heard before, but thought was more significant. I'll have the Bolex converted to Ultra 16 in USA anyway. That's why I got the 16mm set, that is better for conversion to ultra. And leave the Arris 16 to invest on later. Thing is that I already have another Bolex, but a Rex 5 with some nice primes (10mm, 16mm, 25mm). But this EL one has a zoom and might be very useful sometimes. True. I also have 2 mags and 1 torque motor for the EL set. Will have to re-cell the battery or buy a new one. So, will end up with a F* great arsenal!!! :P Well, will make the most of it. Regarding telecine to Ultra in UK, there's a guy in Glasgow I'm talking to. He said he does telecine. Because for Bolex, there's an italian guy that have made one and pretty good result. Roberto Pirodda I'm a great enthusiast of Ultra 16 in EUROPE. So... The LAST thing to find is a Engineer that could operate a ULTRA16 conversion on cameras like Arri 16. Thanks guys
  6. Hi Iain. Thanks loads for your answer. I'll have two motors actually, one is 8V and anotehr is a tobin 12V I'd like to have two battery packs, but in 12V as I intend to buy another 12V and sell my 8V. If you could help me to make a list of what i'll need, it would be greatly appreciated. I will get my two Arriflex soon, so want to be ready to turn them on when they arrive. I saw your items above. But is there anything else I shoudl buy? (e.g.: the cable you mentioned, which one is?) Thanks loads! Flavio
  7. Hi. Need advice on what to do with a Bolex EL 16mm set, with mag and Vario-Switar 10-100 Lens. I got this camera set in a trade. But I'm thinking to sell it to invest on two Arri 16s cameras. I initially thought to convert it to Ultra 16 and keep it to shoot my short films. But as I got the Arriflex that I need to overhaul, I wonder if I would REALLY use the Bolex... I know it's said the quality of the image is way too superior on Arriflex with some nice primes comparing to Bolex. So, what would you do? Would you invest in both and keep them? Or sell the Bolex set to invest on two nice Arriflex 16s and convert them to ultra/overhaul? Thanks, Flavio
  8. Hi Ian That's one of the best tips ever! I might try that. I'm acquiring two Arriflex 16s. But no batteries or cables. Regarding CABLES, you know which ones and where to buy in UK that attach on an Arriflex 16s? I might do two packs to use on both cameras. Thanks, Flavio
  9. Hi all! We need REPAIR DEPOTS IN EUROPE!!!!!!! I'm acquiring two Arriflex 16s, and need to overhaul them. People! Please advice places in Europe! As well, anybody knows who does ULTRA 16mm conversion in Europe? Arri 16s Ultra conversions I only saw in USA... Thanks! Flavio
  10. Hi. The Arri16s.com website its not working. Does anybody have the contact? Thanks, Flavio
  11. Hi all. Am looking for repair depots for Arri 16s equipment. But in EUROPE. Does anybody knows any? Apart from the Arri factory, of course. Am not rich. Yet :P Best, Flavio
  12. Hi Roberto. Cool you manage to convert your camera yourself! Were are you based? I believe in Italy, aren't you? Please send me your email, I'd like to talk to you about Ultra 16mm conversions. Thanks, Flavio
  13. Hi all. I'm about to buy a field recorder, and thought about the Edirol R-4 Pro. I will be using a Bolex Ultra 16mm and lovely prime lenses. As the quality film will be great, I believe it worths to invest on great sound quality. I tohught about the Fostex FR2 as well, it's said superior to the Edirol R-4... But between the two, wjhat you advise? Thanks, F
  14. Ok, ladies... cutting to the chase... I have the same dillema. I'm in between a Fostex PD-6 (F**#$@ing expensive for me), or and Edirol R-4 Pro used, for US$ 600. It's for use in professional filmmaking, as the cameras I will use are all ultra 16mm, I think it's fair enought to get the best in sound I could buy, for the best price, of course. What would you guys advice, peeeleeease? Thanks, F
  15. Hi all. I'm looking for a sekonic light meter,I was told the one below would be one of the best and accurate: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sekonic-Studio-L-398A-Classic-Analogue/dp/B0010SJYBC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1296992326&sr=8-5 Although, seems the same product (only not a II-Deluxe one), in Amazon.com (USA) the CRITICAL review by one customer mentions this is a DIGITAL VERSION of the analog??? http://www.amazon.com/Sekonic-L-398A-Light-Meter-Black/dp/B0010SJYBC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1296992359&sr=8-1 For me would work nice, as its (SUPPOSED) to be compact and precise, since its REALLY analog, to use with my Bolex Rex-5 on the go. Need advice. Its said the analogs are the good ones, more precise... Is it true? Also, if there's another SEKONIC model (INCIDENT LIGHT ones) that is similar or even better, please tell me. Thanks, Flavio
  16. Does Axel Broda has email? :P
  17. Actually, I reckon they will, They're all 1.4f or 1.6f... Am only weondering about the ZOOM lens I'll also have... kern vario 16-100 RX POE. Would that work well in a 16mm Bolex converted to ultra? Thanks again...
  18. Hi, thanks for your answer. You mean NON CORRECTED lens, referring to PRIME LENS or ZOOM lens? If its prime lens you mean, that means the lens have to be corrected? I'm looking at some Switars 25mm, 10mm (these are RX) and a 50mm (non RX). This is probably the set I'll have. Let me know if would work fine in ULTRA 16 Bolex. And more about what you said of the f2 or f2.8... Thanks! Thanks!
  19. Hi guys. Thansk for all your answers... I'm negotiating a STANDARD Bolex EL. Still worried about the ZOOM LENSES, as per Oliver's post above... I'm not taking an Angenieux, but a KERN SWITAR H16 RX 100MM POE BAYO LENS. WOuld this lens work well with a Bolex 16mm EL converted to ULTRA??? Thanks loads! I need to sort this out asap! Flavio
  20. CITY OF GOD was shot in both Super 16mm and 35mm: Digital Intermediate (2K) (master format) Super 16 (source format) Super 35 (source format) Printed film format 35 mm (spherical) (partial blow-up)
  21. Hi all. Thansk for the answers so far. Maybe I didnt explain myself right. I want to convert the camera to ULTRA 16. Not super 16 I've spoken with Bernie O'Doherty that clarified me a lot about what I should do. I'm getting two standard Bolex instead of Super I was initially. Nernie said soem lenses will cause problems... Now I'm on the chase for the best prime lenses to have. Any tips help! Thanks, Flavio
  22. Hi guys. Thaks loads for the answers. Yep, I;ve spoke with Bernie by phone. He was amazing and gave all info I needed. What I'll actually have to do is change my set for a STANDARD 16mm Bolex. SO, the conversion to ULTRA stays safe and all the lenses can be used without vigneting. The PL mount is really necessary if I have a C-Mount adaptor? I'm getting a BOlex EL and a spring H16 REX-5. What is nice of the spring REx-5 is the possibility to have 3 lenses mounted in thte camera and change whenever you want quickly. Isn't it possible or does exists an adaptor/mount for the Bolex Electric EL that allows you to mount all 3 lenses together? The Arriflex I'm getting is the Arriflex S. I think... Not sure about the difference between th "S" and "ST" models if theres any... Thanks for the tips about the lenses brands, Oliver. Much appreciated. But do you mean the ZOOM lenses or primes (or all?) I'm getting a Angenieux 12-120 for the BOlex EL. And some primes for the BOlex Rex-5 Spring... So I need to know which are the best lenses to work with the bolex Rex-5... Thanks a lot so far!
  23. Hi all. Couldn't find another Category to insert this topic. I know ultra 16 have been discussed in some topics already, but I have some doubts I'd like to clarify specifically to my case, but also might help others about the awesomeness of Ultra 16 Conversion. I soon will have a nice arsenal, composed by: - 1 Bolex EL Body + Angeniux 12-120 Zoom Lens - 1 Bolex Rex 5 Body - 2 Arriflex 16 S Bodies - Plus a couple of lenses I'll choose to buy, probably 10mm, 16mm, 25mm and 50mm Then I'll convert ALL the camera Bodies to Ultra 16mm. So, here's what I need to know: 1. Regarding the LENSES I'll choose to buy (since all the cameras will be ULTRA 16mm), is there any difference on buying 16mm or Super 16mm Lenses??? 2. In case there is no difference, which are the ones you guys would advice to buy, Super 16mm or 16mm Lenses? 3. Between the mm choice of the lens, which are the brands more advised to buy. I have a wide range to choose from a guy that sells kern-paillard ones. 4. For last, but not least important, being 16mm or super 16mm lenses.... as I'll have Bolex and Arriflex cameras, which models would be best to fit all body models? Which adaptors necessary? Thanks in advance for any help on making this clear for me. I need to know this before buy the lenses and converting the cameras. Its quite an investment I don't want to spoil (vigneting) by any chance. So, I need a list to what to buy regarding lenses and what NOT to do. Best, Flavio
  24. Hi everybody. Thanks a million for all your posts. I forgot to mention... I'm actually making a TRADE of services for a Bolex with zoom lenses, and after, with another services, I'mm get the primes. So, pretty much, I wont expend a penny for anything, except the postage. Also, I didn't mention, I have a good background in still photography, so, lights are not a problem for me, but I know, of course, each camera has its capabilities of operation and yet, some are better than others The reason I'm asking its because I'm really going for the Bolex. And the gentleman also has a Beaulieu, so I have a chance to get a lighter camera. And he has loads of prime lenses. I know the 50mm and the 25mm ones are reasonable to get... I;m still thinking about the third one, and how can I have a decent set for both. I dont think its a good idea to get 2 50mm lenses, but as they are nice, maybe... Resuming... My intention on this post, is to find a best deal for me, within what the guy has, so, any advice (and thanks for all you already posted) would be great. I'm really going for the ultra 16mm conversion, as it's the only investment I will do, apart from the postage, its the conversion, as for me, the aspect ratio is magical, and I would feel better to invest in films that would have that feel and the pleasure to edit the footage. Apart from that, any advice on the primes, would be great, so I can figure out my set and then, yes, start practicing. Thanks a lot guys. ;)
  25. THe best advice you could give in the best way someone in need could get. Than you very much. I will read it as well.
