  1. Yes. Jeff is correct too! But I was logically assuming that you would not be building a set so I gave you the "we're shooting at a friends apartment during the day" answer. haha Good luck!
  2. so in other words, don't mix. probly sound advice. any other thoughts out there regarding ROSCO's purplish difference. and if LEE is more accurate when it comes to true tungsten->daylight?
  3. looks like minimal lighting to me man. just using the natural brightness from the window and pulling your exposure (f-stop) down to the desired darkness of subject's head gets you 80% there. I see possibly 2 gentle lights on each side of his head...and maybe 1 light straight down on the desk to other subject in chair. Thats it!
  4. LEE 201 (based on their samples) seems lighter (in hue) than Rosco's full CTB. In the past I've used LEE 201 for bringing my 1k pars up to daylight, but I ran into a killer deal on some Rosco rolls and am wondering about their color accuracy compared to LEE gels? any thoughts?
  5. looking for great recommendations for script writing forums?
  6. will one of those Honda EU6500is gene give enough juice to operate the LightningStrikes 70K unit? I'm guessing thats not actually 70,000 watts, so whats the minimum gene power I'll need?
  7. oh, my bad. yes, I have free access to a 5k HMI light so thats what I was referring to if that would be enough. then since I can't switch it on and off, assuming I can find a way to flicker it with flags. any thoughts on best way you would diffuse/disperse light so its not a beam and light up the whole background woods?
  8. not sure I follow the logic. if a 5k isn't enough output for our needs, why would an Aadyntech Eco Punch at ~2.5k work? obviously the built-in lightning option rocks! so thats good, but can these be daisy-chained to have multiple fire at once then?
  9. anyone have good examples of accomplishing lightning strikes in a big area? weird, I can't find ANYTHING online on ways to do this. assuming I can rig it to work, you think this 5k HMI I have access to would be enough? I'm concerned it will create a beam through the fogged woods. keep it coming guys! good stuff!
  10. I'm helping out on a project where a scene is shot in the woods at night. and we are needing to create fake lightning flashes in the distance. (and just to be clear--we are NOT wanting any lightning bolts, just lighting up the black sky through the trees like when lightning lights the skies up) Here's our best guess so far: using a 5k HMI about 100ft behind the subject and aimed about 60degrees up and having a big diffuser right over the light, we'd fog up the tree areas in back, then flick the 5k on-and-off quickly as if lightning lit up the night. thoughts? better way?
  11. i messaged the guy actually...he said they shot with red epic but the test trailer is raw footage so not much has been done with it.
  12. So I saw the Hobbit (the 48fps version) and I had to force my way through it! I felt like I had NO MOVIE EXPERIENCE at ALL!!!! I'm so ANGRY...I felt gypped! The detail obviously opens up a whole new world for cool effects (and it was pretty) but @%!.....I felt like I was watching a glorified soap opera. Hey Peter jackson......"YUCK!" now I have to go home and watch the old ones to make myself like LOTR again! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh! Please GOD...don't allow the world of cinema to go this direction!?! I beg you!
  13. i shoot with a 5d and it doesnt seem close to this guys film...but maybe he's just lighting better than I am.
  14. I like the idea......but the narration has absolutely no emotion for me. narration is acting too!
  15. I wasnt sure in WHAT category to post this in so I just put it in here. I hope its ok. I thought I'd share this guy's new film -- Discover Kasper. Its quirky, but I find it extremely interesting. And, I have been trying to guess what camera they used...any takers? It looks really good for only having 5k for a budget! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/887534482/discover-kasper

  17. I think its fine dude. If this is what you've got, then it's what you've got. you know what I mean. I would remove the shot where you start out behind the car and move past it. then I would pull down the black levels on the first shot with the musicians (the one with the lens flares) overall, keep going man, you just need more. ps-the shark was a cool "experience" piece, what was that shoot for??
  18. Did you transfer the files onto another storage device before you brought it to its final destination? In other words, first to a portable hard drive, jumpdrive, etc. then taking that to the macpro? If so, your problem was in the transfer process of that storage device. It has been known to happen where that particular storage device corrupts the file format. So you need to pull the audio files directly into your final destination without going through any storage device or get a new/different storage device that has been tested with files from the ZoomH4 Other than that, you may have a malfunction with your ZoomH4. Hopefully not. Do tests and process of elimination. Good luck dude! js
  19. If you call Guy in Nevada, he might have one of the original jackets that goes around your bolex. He's french, and knows about everything when it comes to film cameras. Guy Bodart CAMERASPRO http://www.cameraspro.com
  20. hey y'all, just introducing myself. I didn't see an introduction prompt or forum so.. I've been a director/producer and 3D Animator (Maya) for churches and tv for almost a decade. I've pretty much peaked out and am moving on to new things, movie-making!!! I know the ropes pretty well. I prefer to the RED one camera if I can. if not, I've been impressed with the new Panasonic AF100 as a backup plan. I have a collection of canon FD lenses (around 30) so anything I can click an FD into, I'm happy! lol My favorite genre of films are usually in drama. I can do 3D animation work and mostly enjoy but its very tedious. my heart is really behind the story, camera and film making. Oddly, as a 3D animator, I usually dislike about every CG-driven movie out there except for a few, typically because the stories are so shallow. I'll take good drama with interesting characters and a thought-provoking plot/ending any day of the week and twice on sunday. I joined this forum back in 2005 and have had a couple emails with y'all, I remember David Mullen being very helpful, along with others. well, its been a few years since a came here and so my email, username, password has all been different so I just created a new account. Good to be back! And keep up the good work, I'm seeing some cool stuff in here! 8-)
  21. I've been a director/producer for video/short film work for churches for that last 9 years. well, I've definitely hit my limit and am wanting to move on. so I'm working out a couple short films as well as a full feature film. (not pursuing hollywood just yet, only looking at $100,000 for first feature, festivals, str.to.dvd, etc.) anywho, its been a while since I've really put energy into getting good audio, and tv is a little different than movie-making as you know. so.... just to give you quick rundown on what I'm being privately invested with...shooting films with RED one, then 2cd. b-roll camera is the Panasonic AF100 with tons of FD primes. I already own a Zoom H4n, but where I'm looking to brush up on my knowledge is microphone choices as well as "techniques" in lapel hiding/tricks to attain quality audio for movie-making. all I've got right now is a couple sets of EW100g Senn's (lapels), then an AT897 shotgun with dead cat rig. I believe in a good audio man before a good mic setup, (which I haven't lined one up yet) but looking to get opinions on whether these are sufficient or not. but mainly looking for the lapel/lav side of things....models, techniques, tricks, etc. anytime I can, I prefer using a lapel over a shotgun any day of the week! so hit me with your best shots. and thx y'all.
