  1. I am with Adrian here too. Why would you want to combine CGI weapon with real actor? If you have budget problem to build a realistic model then i suggest you to forget the idea of CGI use here, it would look silly when you are doing this by yourself.
  2. use a light meter would help a lot otherwise it all depends on the situations. What you are trying to capture, because the exposure meter on the camera is just suggestion, so to speak. 2 days ago i was taking a picture of a black bag, the exposure meter on the camera would tell you that the subject is too dark, but its a black bag, is supposed to be dark, you can change setting to see how it works. I dont know why you mean that histogram isnt reliable, it suppose to tell you the luminance value of the overall picture.. of course it won't be accurate, but is the best thing you have when you dont have a light meter...
  3. Hey Hal! Many thanks for your help. Yes, from my understanding is that best microphones in the market deliver crispy clean and natural sound, that's the reason why the professionals love them, but the price is relatively high.. way to high for an amateur like me. That's why I had to choose for some lower budget alternative. I've been recommended to a Audio Technica short shotgun microphone from a professional, after I explained my situation to him. Those are the equipments that I can get for now. So the idea is to approach the major film as close as possible, to deliver the best sound with what i got in my hands. I know there's bunch of artists involved in a sound production.. in Avatar I guess that's because they had to create the whole Pandora world with brand new sounds. I will spend time to study it. I have always wondered something like that.. Or a forum like this one for the cinematographer.. but for the sound design professionals.. Thanks again!
  4. Nice data, thanks. They offer 5600k bulb for a reasonable price and attached a pic of the sofbox with a 6500 105w bulb cant remember what was the white balance setting, but you can see its bluish...

Hello guys I am not very professional at the sound field, but i really love the sound design in a film, and i think i am the only one who cares about sound in my class, so I have purchased few sound equipment along the zoom H4n recorder. So here's a list of my gears: 1 audio-technica short shotgun microphone AT 875R 1 Audio-Technica U873R Handheld Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone for indoor use 1 ART ProMIX 3-Channel Microphone Mixer (cheap one, didnt have much option for a cheap field mixer..) 1 Gator Cases Field Recorder Utility Bag 1 Rycote S-series 300 windscreen kit Still awaiting these items arrival. But there's always one thing that i can never achieve.. is the feel of the natural vocal sound in a feature film as we know. Of course I am not getting any best microphone like the blue little buddy Schoeps or Neumann, or the great field recorder like sound device.. But sure thing is that Zoom can record up to 96kHz 24bit, which is quiet enough for studio purpose. I know there are few factors to consider when capture the sound.. But am I missing something here to make a dialog here to sound as the way they do in a major production? sound processing maybe? can anybody share the sound workflow? Thanks bunch

Hey Austin Here are something you might want to consider Using no lighting is bad, what cinematography basically about is the whole scene design, which mainly aims to the image of the picture to deliver a better look. No idea why you considered to use no lighting, you can always used something thats in your reach even in a low budget short feature. That 12 bucks DIY shoulder rig definitely felt like hand held... the footage looks shaky, but if that was the decision of the director then its fine, only in this case i dont think it help that much to the story Story-wise talking, no idea what this short is getting at...

Definitely a great camera to shoot around anything, if i was rich enough i'd get one to start to shoot around.. almost anything 18 stops HDRx thats insane Even the new F65 claims to have 14 stops dynamic range. But apparently it appears to have a great film-look. Wouldn't know, never seen the footage. BTW i am surprised to read the second page of this thread

  12. Thanks Adrian, thats very helpful data. Although I'd like to know what kind of fabric i could get just for the practice sake. Because I currently live in Argentina, I saw that i could get Roscos cinegel from some local dealers, but i have no idea how much, one thing for sure is that will be 2 or 3 times more expensive than the price in US.. Thats how the things are here....

  14. I was wondering the same, more like i needed to know the specific fabric to use, or any available type of fabric i could use to achieve different results. Beside silk, as for the budget problem. So far i got gauze, the textile one. And i think it could be best for scrim. And i want to know more options for diffusion as well

Looking good.. just be careful with focus in some shots and the sound design is very important.. in commercial, theres something you do to catch the audience attention, because keep that in mind, TV commercials are on after the other. So what they use is a sound that catch audience attention, usually louder type, like could be bell in this case.

  21. Speaking of TV.. I think it was HBO that made me want to become part of Hollywood... I'd remember when i was kid, i used to watch more movies than cartoon on TV. And my mom would take me and my sister to the theater when we get a discount coupon.. I loved all those movies back in 90's, didnt want to leave the theater.
  22. I have been asking that same question for the past 13 years :/ Well for my situation its more like "How to get to US and make it in Hollywood?" I think the key to the success is "catch attention".. How? doing something outstanding, groundbreaking or different but that sells. Remember the news not long ago? An indie director from Uruguay shot a sci-fi short and uploaded to youtube, later got contract from Hollywood. Although i have never heard of him again, but still he was on the news from everywhere in the world. I guess what you are and what you do defines it. How to make it in Hollywood? Be very good at what you are doing..
