  1. I need to watch this. I liked their trailer. Good luck to them!
  2. Shoot Blue maybe: http://shootblue.tv/category/cameras/sony/ There is decode and Procam out there too. Watch out shooting around Barbican as it is city of London and they can be touchy. A lot of it is private on top of that too. Freya
  3. I don't have a postal address of any kind or so much somewhere to put things so getting hold of the book right now is a pain. Also 8GBP is a lot of money here. I'm sure I could find it cheaper. I did get to read most of it in the library too. Isn't the tortoise in the sun an imaginary scenario? I guess it's kind of more explicit to get a point across. That's the main point in the film that connects with what the whole book is mostly about. There are lots of situations in the book where people aren't sure if they are replicants or if other people are replicants including the replicant police station and everything. The book is way wierder than the movie as the might expect from Horse Lover. Freya
  4. Trailer for this looks better to me than the one for the new Blade Runner movie, some variable acting aside. Graphics are slightly video gamey but I've seen far worse. Would be better if it was augumented with more minatures. Mostly looks really good though and I felt more interested in seeing that movie than the official one. Freya
  5. Looking for excitement and adventure and really wild things? Come and join me in South East London for some event cinematography and stuff... What do you say guys? Freya
  6. Ah that's a good reason then!
  7. I was reading the book in Erith library before I got driven out of town. The book is amazing. I wondered if he would go there given the nature of the movie and yes in the book he goes there all the way. The movie is less interesting in a way but really beautiful. The point is kind of what it means to be human. Is it just DNA that makes someone human? There are the voigt kampf tests to tell the difference so clearly there are differences other than incept dates. The book is all about this but the movie just hovers around the subject in a more subtle way. Both have their own thing going for them to be honest. In the book it's not clear if they are genetically based or not, or at least I don't remember it being but it doesn't matter if they are. Also it doesn't mean they are genetically identical to humans. We don't know that the DNA of the replicants is identical to human DNA although if it isn't then you would think there would be something simpler than the voight kampt test. To be honest you would think they would deliberately make the DNA noticably different so that you could tell them apart. I guess the movie is before the days of cheap DNA testing. but is it DNA that makes people human? There is a definite argument for this. There was some talk a while back of reclassifying chimps as human as they largely have the same DNA and have interbred with humans far more recently than was expected but I don't think a lot of people would be comfortable with putting chimps in the human classification. Sadly never finished reading the book but it's awesome like most PKD stuff. Freya
  8. Phil being sarcastic? Really do you think that is likely? ;) Freya
  9. Yes Trilogy for the win! :) You should make this happen. Only trouble is that you will then need to come up with a new idea for the next trilogy but I have faith you will come up with something Richard! Freya
  10. Having a back up plan is a great idea actually no matter what kind of dedication and "bull-headedness" you have. You don't know what will come out of the blue in your life and try and destroy you. Nobody is going to say you can't be in the film industry if you have a business degree, (quite the opposite I would have thought in fact) but when you are in trouble, like for instance if a gang of people beat you up and drug you and try and force you to star in a really low budget version of "eyes wide shut" and you stumble out of the country fast with a suitcase, a backpack, and a carry bag, you will be be really glad you had that business degree as you wander around foreign lands all alone feeling a bit frightened and vulnerable and looking over your back. Just as an example off the top of my head... asking for a friend and all that. Anyway... yeah business degree all the way. Maybe you can even make enough money in business to make some films or you could work in the film business perhaps. The thing is that having a major in film will mean nothing in the real world as it's more about how dedicated you are to the goal as Stuart suggests. Having a business degree might be useful in all kinds of situations.... ...especially in these difficult times. Stay strong Nahomi... love Freya
  11. Probably more to do with me and what's going on in my head right now Gregg. I should probably try to stave off posting so much for a while. Freya
  12. Just to throw into the mix but I'm wondering if MPEG streamclip can help in this situation, perhaps running on the mac although there is a more limited PC version too. It has the advantage of being easy to use and small if it can help. Freya
  13. Gregg, are you suggesting that it's not good to have opinions? The reason I'm asking is because I think it's really important to have opinions and for people to discuss them. I have noticed a slide in certain sections of society towards only being able to really discuss a very limited subset of subjects where there is an agreed consensus in their group. I do not see this as a good thing for the people involved themselves or the world in general. In the past it's been okay to have strong opinions about music for instance and it thankfully maintains a lot of that although I'm noticing a severe slide even there at this point. Fine Art has always been a more difficult area in the past but I would like to think that film and movies could be more like music than fine art in this regard. Jarin wins lots of points with me for having the right attitude in this regard! Big up to Jarin! Freya
  14. Always seems to be plenty of money for some people and some things, just not for others.
  15. There is also an effort at graphic design too to make it easier to work stuff out regardless of language as opposed to Germany where the text is in huge blocks of German only text that looks like it was spat out of some kind of 70's computer with the barest expectation of it being human readable, often coming from about 4 different places too. I hear so often people say the British hate foriegners which is so ridiculous when we go to such efforts to try and help them. I also see frequent signs in polish and there are special classes available for polish people to learn English but nothing for English people to learn other languages. I have to say that I frequently hear all these folks from overseas ragging on how awful the UK is and yeah it's been going badly down the toilet for a long, long time with very bad descisions made by influential people tearing things apart but it also has a long and beautiful history of many things that I love. Probably if I was fortunate enough to have the option I would choose to live here somewhere if I could make it all work. Could say a lot more but I probably said too much already. anyway...
  16. Well after affects can handle it: After Effects also supports Panasonic DVX100 24p DV camera pulldown, called 24P Advance (24Pa). Some cameras use this format to capture 23.976 progressive-scan imagery using standard DV tapes. Before you remove 3:2 pulldown, separate the fields as either upper-field first or lower-field first. Once the fields are separated, After Effects can analyze the footage and determine the correct 3:2 pulldown phase and field order. If you already know the phase and field order, choose them from the Separate Fields and the Remove menus in the Interpret Footage dialog box. In the Project panel, select the footage item from which to remove 3:2 pulldown. Choose File > Interpret Footage > Main. In the Fields and Pulldown section, select Upper Field First or Lower Field First from the Separate Fields menu. Do one of the following and click OK: If you know the phase of the 3:2 or 24Pa pulldown, choose it from the Remove menu. To have After Effects determine the correct settings, click Guess 3:2 Pulldown or Guess 24Pa Pulldown. Note: If your footage file contains frames from different sources, the phase may not be consistent. If the phase is inconsistent, import the footage multiple times, once for each phase, and interpret each footage item with a different setting. Then, add each footage item to your composition and trim each layer to use only the appropriate frames. In other words, if you have an asset that has multiple pulldown phases, then you need to cut that asset into pieces and remove pulldown separately for each of the pieces. This can come up if the asset is a movie that has been edited together from several sources in an NLE.
  17. In short no but this video made by Stephen Murphy is really helpful for getting an idea of the Tiffen branded stuff but there are so many makes and so many weird filters. I'm quite into filters but I still keep learning about stuff which is good in some ways. Freya
  18. Not on the cintel itself no but it was common to have a da-Vinci in the suite. I guess you worked with a more limited setup for some reason.
  19. You can do far more than balance in the telecine suite. Resolve has its origins in Telecine suites long before it was bought by Blackmagic and Baselight, although less common that Resolve has a similar history. I would assume they are even more common now! Sorry I'm a bit behind here. I'm a bit off the map right now and swimming in paperwork and other equally fun stuff. Freya
  20. Now the other issue is that these are all shots with flash photography because I have been messing about with that lately. I started out just to get the red eye effect (no problem getting that with my eyes!) in the hope I could make profile pictures that looked more threatening and evil instead of the usual please hurt me look i wonder around with usually in life. Then I discovered that flash would do all kinds of other interesting stuff to boot. Thus the camera was already set up for the flash stuff. So yeah I've been trying to achieve stuff more like this: Instead of the please hurt me type look I wonder about with in real life: I'm an expert in those crazy looking 1000 mile stares. Worth noting while we are here how you can end up with strange dissolve looking effects depending on the position of the material too. Anyway if I'm shooting video there will be no flash, so I turned it off but sadly that led to very different and minimal effects which is the opposite of what I was expecting because I was thinking less light, more shallower depth of field, and it should all work better. This is what happened. It's an interesting effect because it looks sometimes like textured walls and a it like front projection too: Not what I was going for but maybe worth remembering for the future. I'm wondering if this means that I require very frontal light to get the effect. I don't usually have the key light that front and centre and I'm going to have limited access to lights in the field too. Midsummer was presumably all shot on a stage which makes things easier in that respect. Anyone else tried anything like this and want to comment further? The room is lit by a window to the right of the shot (should be obvious from the last photo but just thought I would say) Freya
  21. Okay so that's working! I discovered that moving the material I had, even just slightly, made massive changes to the colours and ... well everything really. Might not be as much of an issue in B&W but I'm worried how reproducable this stuff will be in the field. Also I like the colours so that could be an issue if I try it in colour sometimes. I can see this turning into hours of faffing about. The material needs to be very close to the lens on the small sensor camera indeed, otherwise you start to get focus issues even with a cm difference. All of these shots are with exactly the same material just moved about slightly to different positions. Freya
  22. So I decided to make hay while the sun is shining and run some tests. Please excuse the model, she was all I could get at short notice.
  23. Thanks David, Yeah had a feeling the suprafrosts were way off base. It's probably the oldest diffusion I have however and most of it leans to pro-mist style effects as that's where my taste is. I think I have a glass net filter too but I'm very low on other diffusion effects. I do have a few cokin filters tho including a set of the "Dreams" filters too I think which might work a bit for what I have in mind. That screenshot is especially helpful too. I have a feeling I might have some Tiffen soft-fx somewhere too but I'm going to have to tear through my unit to find it and I've no idea what strength it might be. I definitely don't have dutos but I know what you are talking about as I saw a filter with the rings and thought "that looks interesting". I strongly suspect I might need the right kind of sequins to get even close to that effect too... Looks like a lot of testing ahead. Going to try on a small sensor camcorder and see where that takes me.
  24. I'm also wondering now if the sequins will fail on the Super 8 camera as it might be too close focusing.
