  1. Why not using a Clock in the background ? You can use it decent but clearly eye-catching. Thats for indoor scenes, though.
  2. It's funny as nowadays every employer asks for a degree and diplomas to give you a job. At least here in Europe. To succeed in this field you dont really need one. All you need is passion and you need to be stubborn and follow your way. YOUR way. Don't try to copycat others. However, attending some classes in a Filmschool wont hurt. You can learn a few cool things. I went to Filmschool and i learned a lot. But the best school i guess is learning by doing and fail.
  3. Hurry if you want a Super16mm Krasnogorsk K3 This is rare. Just found it.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Super-16mm-Russian-Bolex-K3-camera-Krasnogorsk-3-Spike-LEEs-choice-/190896842336?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c7256a660 NOT mine!
  4. I LOVE METEOR! In general i love movies from that period of time. And parts of the Movie was shoot in my Homecountry (Switzerland)! My Dad was an extra in this Film and also a Helicopter Mechanic for Heliswiss who provided the Helicopter for one of the Scenes. But my favorite Movie from that period is "The Final Countdown". It was well done. I was just 14 when it came to the Movietheaters and i remember i went to watch it with my Dad. Exciting times in deed. We also watched Moonraker. OK, nowadays SFX are cool in some movies as long as they dont "overdo" it like in 2012 (way to much) but lately i prefer films with no SFX where the "photography" is more in the foreground then stuff added in the post.
  5. I think the location research was bad. ok, back then, they did not have google earth, but at least a map should have been consulted to see whats around. im not talking about the weather, poop happens, but the military airbase? but well i should not open my mouth to wide as i still consider myself as a rookie and such things could easily happen to myself. but i was kinda baffled by the "professionalism" of those guys (irony off)
  6. I have just seen the Documentary of "Lost in La Mancha" OMG This is a Nightmare. The hard way to learn how NOT to do it.... Anyone knows this?
  7. HA HA Phil, i like that. My Favorite is "The Settlers" or "Age of Empire" I see i am not the only one here who plays Computergames. @David: know what MY fav relaxing music is? Honestly, it's on my iPhone and it's the Soundtrack of Blade Runnder AND Red October. Both are Masterpiece. Have a nice Weekend everyone Randy
  8. there is a thing called "autogenic training" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autogenic_training there are many different methods to relax. one of mine is to go behind my house which is build directly on a huge river, i put some relaxing music on my iPhone 5 and sink my feets into the cold water. just upon the ancles. AND most important i do that in the golden hour. i just did today. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=389726201136444&set=vb.100002972034036&type=3&theater
  9. i'm confused. in your first posting you are talking about a feature film and now you say it was a short? i concluded: because it is a feature, it made e you believe that "film" would be expensive (filmstock / developing / telecine) etc. and you tought that post would be cheaper if you have it digital. is that correct? but obviously you knew exactly that you DON'T want that digital look. another thing which confuses me: why did you rent an alexa with cooke lense for a short? was it for prestige reasons? by no means i want to offend you, i want to find out why a student with a small budget goes to spend so much money on a project rather than using simple equipment to do a first project and learn from there? (babysteps) however, maybe we can see the result. it maybe helps to understand. would be awesome to see what you've created :) ;) cheers randy
  10. If you need FULL HD only then get a Sony EX1 as Adrian recomended or a a Sony HVR Z1 (these are cheap but very good) As for the Audio, i would place a few very good MIC's around the rooms, pluged into a mixer and the output back into the cameras. The EX1 has XLR inputs.
  11. I have some Filmstock in the fridge and i wonder: How long can i have it outside the Fridge in regular Roomtemparature without damaging the Filmstock? What is the recomended temparature? Can a to cold Fridge also damage the Filmstock? Randy
  12. Regaring the jamming: You can ask Simon Wyss here in the Forum. He is a Camera Technician / Repairman. I am also pretty sure only the take up spool should run.
  13. Sorry i can't help myself but i need to post this funny sh***
  14. however, the problem has been solved by tim. he was kind enough to change it manually upon my request. how do i become a sustaining member? :D what are the benefits?
  15. haha right! it's not just me, but many other DP's opinion: if you want your movie look like film then use film. everything else is a waste of time and you get more respect as well!
  16. in general i disagree with that thing called "film is expensive" because if you do a professional project, as you mentioned, an alexa is more expensive to rent in a long term than to purchase a 16mm camera. but thats not the point. i dare to say that when it comes to post production; digital postproduction will eat your coins and pennys like a piranha! my experience. i switched to 35mm, purchased a moviecam compact because i did a very carefull research, called up production companies and asked them for prices. i compared and it was clearly the 35mm which was cheaper! you should watch this: respectfully randy
  17. I agree with Will. These Guys are probably the best on the marked today. I definitively would give them a try. Ask for Tommy and thell him Randy sent you ;-)
  18. i just was in the movies to see elysium and also have seen white house down. in both, they showed the trailer of riddick and im excited to see that.
  19. Film making IS an expensive business if you are not spending money on making your film then your probably not really making a film anyone wants to watch. And expecting professionals with expensive equipment to let you have it for free is insane and insulting to boot. Another thing that grates while I'm on the subject is the 'no money upfront but a percentage of backend sales' spin. How many times I have heard this one! Lets face it if you can't get it together to pay people to make your film how on earth are you going to pay for marketing said film? And if your business skills are so limited that you can't market the film how on earth will you ever be able to give us a percentage of the 'backend sales' you promised in the first place?
