  1. How long ago did you get it? I was thinking of purchasing a Bravia for a while.
  2. Whenever I do a quick edit job for someone and resolution is brought up, I tell them it's a 2k finish even though half the time I'm just doing 1080p. I've never gotten a complaint from doing this, but I was just wondering how crucial the difference is and if you've ever had a client be a real stickler over it? Thanks.
  3. Is this exclusively an LA thing? Good Fellas or Raging Bull might be something cool to see at that theater. While he might be the best to ever shoot a visual, I can't think of a single Kubrick film I can sit through entirely.
  4. Don't forget about us when you're on top, man.
  5. For more minor roles I don't see an issue. And there are British actors who can absolutely nail any accent. But as a 'proud' American, I hear a major difference between Hugh Laurie in "House MD" and Emma Watson in "Perks of Being A Wallflower". On the flip side I'm sure Brits wouldn't receive it too well if Johnny Knoxville starred in a London shot film with a fake sounding British accent.
  6. I got the Ikegami HL-59, since it seemed like a steal on that eBay link. And this didn't immediately occur to me, but yeah white balance seems like it'd be a total pain when my only in camera reference shows no hues. Things on my list to get right now are: -A B4 Lens -Something that can convert the signal coming from that SDI port to an Atomos Ninja -A Battery and charger For the last 2, what is the general battery life for these cameras? Can the battery get charged while the DC power is in the camera? Any battery brands to avoid? And lastly, does anyone have a recommended set of gear to go about converting the camera's output to digital on the fly? Thanks a ton for all your help. I'm nearing the end of this equipment journey.
  7. Hey just got this thing. Is the viewfinder supposed to be black and white by default for these broadcast cameras? Thanks.
  8. A ViewSonic 24" LCD computer monitor. I have a 42" Samsung 1080p "3D Ready" flat screen, but I use it maybe once a week.
  9. I've never said "action" or "cut" on a set before. It's corny to me.
  10. You really gotta start and getting your hands dirty with a cheap camera before all else. Produce shorts constantly and the process of "learning from your mistakes" is mathematically practical within a smaller amount of time. Once you've fabricated your own experiences, I personally recommend the online content of Shane Hurlbut and the online Masterclass from Werner Herzog. All in all, make sure you have the time and ability to simply practice in general. If you don't apply what you're learning from the recommended resources, you may as well spend your time playing video games or something.
  11. Wish you luck, was selling my EFs last week and got burned like crazy on eBay.
  12. Been scratching my head on this for a while now. Whenever I download a (poorly) compressed video file and view it, it's always a bit grey by default. All the hard whites and hard blacks more resemble light greys and dark greys. What is the reason for this? Surely the most basic of computer programs can render absolute blacks and whites, right? Although I understand why some saturation would be lost. Thanks for all input.
  13. Welcome to the Billionaire Boys Club.
  14. Yeah I was about to say, I don't mind working with a CCD for the first time professionally, but I saw videos like this and am willing to accept it's not pulling the DR of my RED
  15. Now it feels a tad too late. Due to the second turn's slowed down velocity, it will be more difficult to find the perfect time. One recommendation is having the models turn quicker so you can easily achieve seamless cuts.
  16. Silver Sharpie if you're trying to finish a high school film project.
  17. I've always preferred the look of RED over Canon for cinematic purposes.
  18. The Simpsons like, perfectly captured freelance editing.
  19. Yeah I was about to say, the second cut is happening too early. Think of it as the model doing the cutting, not you.
  20. Transition packs are mad tacky. They might've been cool in the 80's or something. They scream "I just got windows movie maker". If I have to do picture transitions for a wedding video or something I manually find creative ways to get one pic dancing to the next. If you're confused on what I mean by that I could post a sample video later. Dissolving/fading is the only one that isn't ugly to me.
  21. I remember hearing about those in a "life before DSLR" documentary. Going so retro to the point of using DOF adapters is like romanticizing the 1950's and intentionally getting Polio.
  22. The reason why the first cut feels fluid is that it feels as if the girl is triggering the cut with her motion (turning). The second cut doesn't occur during any swing of motion. Cut at a point where she turns again and your fluidity is back.
  23. I've always disliked the idea of discs altogether. The ugly truth is; whether they are obsolete or not, if the client demands it you must deliver.
