Maybe true for AI art. I don't know anything about it. But AI seems to be booming in advertising and some editorial work. In the recent Iran war there was tons of AI of fake Israel bombing when they could not get any real images out of Israel. I also see lots of Trump AI. They got Trump doing all sort of things. I started a small collection of them today. This just popped up today on a YT ad... This was on my YT feed today. Here is some 'art' created with Midjourney. Internet Archive: Digital Library of Free & Borrowable Texts, Movies, Music & Wayback Machine Never thought about it, but I wonder if high priced models will be hit in the pocketbook with fake AI models. A popular recent trend on YT is for girls to make how to breast pump milk. they make .45 sec to 1 min+ videos popping out a boob to milk under the guise of education. The poor milking girls on YT will be replaced with fake AI girls soon. They won't even be able to make pocket change on YT. I will have to go archive some of that Iran war AI. Never thought about it till now. There is always something to archive.

Underwater Lighting Tips
Daniel D. Teoli Jr. replied to Oisin Hugh Edwin O'Connell's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
You need to work this all out ahead of time with light tests. And keep testing until you get something of decent quality. Although your #2 shot may be doable. Other option is to hire an underwater cameraman. Good luck! -

These things are fleeting moments in time. Only up for a few months at best, then it goes poof! You are already there, so why not preserve something of it and donate to the historical record? In 2018 I went to the Araki show in NYC. I spent 1.5 hours there looking and shooting. I can't post most if it due to content. If you want to check it out, go to the Internet Archive and look it up. Photo: D.D.Teoli Jr. I had a hard time shooing at the museum as you could not bring in a backpack. I was shooting regular photography, circular fisheye photography and infrared flash photography. I used a fishing vest to carry all that crap and the vest was bursting at the seams! So, find a way to get the job done. Almost all galleries & museums allow photography. This museum didn't allow flash photography, so I used invisible infrared flash. This was the entrance of the show...in infrared flash. (Censored) Infrared flash photo: D.D.Teoli Jr. Like I said, can't show much here and not going to fool around censoring things. So, you check it out. But the point of this post is not Araki. The point of it is to inspire you to document your world. You go to a lecture, record audio at least. You don't have to shoot a video of the whole thing. Then put it online. <><><><> Daniel D. IB Tech had heads and tails with witness marks for YCN runs as shown above and in your example, OP. Definitive test for IB Tech is to soak a few frames in water. If dye bleeds out in a couple of days...it is IB Tech. But can't do it with most films. I've done it before on a IB Tech trailer I purchased for such tests. I can't locate the scans of that test as of now. If I find it, I will send it in. OP...make a high-res scan of your lab head with the witness marks and send it to me for my archive. Make it as I've shown in my example. Send to: w1000w@aol.com Thanks! <><><><> Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Archival Collection Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Small Gauge Film Archive Daniel D. Amazing stuff they are doing nowadays with AI. If you use stock photos, you have to check to see the origin of the photo. RPPC Huntington Beach DDTJRAC Original cards of this subject matter are hard to get. And most of the ones I've seen in collections are crappy IQ. The photog that took most of the beach oil wells was a shitty photog. Lots of PP on this image. Original was very dark. No shadow detail and very contrasty. The entire beach was loaded with oil well derricks. This is just a sampling of them. <><><><> Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Archival Collection Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Small Gauge Film Archive Daniel D. Don't know when this was taken. The book it is in was from 1925. La Brea means The Tar in Spanish. When I was 15 or 16 I had a summer job in L.A. working with the Street Maintenace Dept. One day we had to go to a sewer manhole and suck out the tar seeping into the street on Wilshire Blvd. You could see tar seeping on the sidewalks near buildings that were near the Tar Pits. I got about $750 for the summer job. I used it to buy a Beseler MCRX enlarger...then was broke again. If you get a moiré pattern you can download it or go here and download. I never descreen halftone scans. All descreening does it make the image fuzzy and reduce the size of the file. If you ever want to descreen, you can do it in Lightroom by just reducing the sharpness. You can also try enlarging the image up and down with the mouse scroll wheel to find the sweet spot to view halftones. La Brea Tar Pits L. A. D. D. Teoli Jr. A. C. : D. D. Teoli Jr. A. What are you people doing with your scanners?

This would have been an interesting film to get. Weegee at work in NYC! From the samples shown, most of the film was not Weegee. It was a small reel and not even full. I wanted it, but it was too $$ for my budget.- 7 replies

What are you people doing with your scanners?
Daniel D. Teoli Jr. replied to Daniel D. Teoli Jr.'s topic in Post Production
Everyone has different interests. Some of the things people preserve on Reddit's Data Hoarder are garbage to me. But they are important to the archivist that saves it. And it adds to the historical record. It is good not to have prejudice when it comes to archival work. Check your prejudice at the door. Even so, one archivist can't do it all. So, we have to set limits. One thing I found helpful is to archive samples. I dig through the trash at the post office a lot and find various trade magazines and journals once in a while. I go to their sites and see if they offer PDF archives. If so, I download a sample copy to upload to the Internet Archive. If no PDF's, I scan the copy I found in the trash and upload it. That allows people to know of its existence, and they can do more work if they like on their end. I transfer the work to the person interested in the thing. Someone complained I don't make PDF's. I told them I give you decent JPEGs...make your own PDF's. I can't do it all. I talked with some Russian software people many years ago about making a basic PDF program. One that was cheap in price and easy to use. Just import JPEGs and export and a PDF in a second. But they never came out with it. I'm always looking for time savers to be able to produce more work.- 7 replies

Daniel D. Teoli Jr. replied to Daniel D. Teoli Jr.'s topic in Post Production
No Dan, not if it is a problem. But talk about things in general. And that is why I would never want to be a pro scanner. I do not want to do work I can't talk about or use. Ask yourself this question. Would you be doing the same work you are doing now, if you didn't get paid for it? Now, what about doing the work you are doing no if you had to pay to do it?- 7 replies

What are you people doing with your scanners?
Daniel D. Teoli Jr. replied to Daniel D. Teoli Jr.'s topic in Post Production
No one is scanning anything noteworthy to share with us? Too bad. Recently I picked up something interesting from 1936. A 16mm home movie of a hunting trip on a boat in Alaska. Alaska became a state in 1959. Apparently, there was no problem shooting Bald Eagles back then. I'm not sure if they kept the eagle or just the talons. There is a shot of the talons mounted to a box below. Maybe the bird is in the box? The film may show the story when I see it...or not. Lots of mysteries in history, but vintage films and photos help solve some of the puzzle. I've got a lot of hunting films in the cine' film archive. Love em! But I love lots of areas of archival preservation beside hunting. That is one of my problems. Wide ranging interests and not enough $, space and time. Right now, I'm about 55% done with a massive part-time job of looking through 27,000 glass plates, prints and negs from 1890-1910. Hope to be done by Nov 2025. Got enough work for 10 lifetimes...just in cine' film. <><><><> Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Archival Collection Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Small Gauge Film Archive Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Advertising Archive Daniel D. Try alcohol wipes. But try small. It may mess up the real leather. It is more suitable to leatherette (fake leather), glass and metal.

How to shoot extreme close ups
Daniel D. Teoli Jr. replied to kris limbach's topic in Lenses & Lens Accessories
Don't know if you can use this, but the anal still shooters use this for focus stacking. It allows for micro adjustments with focus. StackShot Macro Rail Package I probably need to get more anal myself, but not for focus stacking. I need a copy stand setup for camera scanning. Flatbed scanners are crap for negs and chromes. You want to use dedicated close up macro lenses or enlarging lenses on bellows. Diopters are the lowest grade to use. Lots of aberrations when you add magnifying lenses to a setup. But for movies it may not matter that much. These are good bellows to get. Highly adaptable for still use. BUT...you need to adapt to your use. Good luck! <><><><> Daniel D. Are you scanners working on any interesting jobs? I bought a 'pig in a poke' film lot a while back. Supposedly a 16mm short of Betty Brosmer in it. But I have not looked through it to verify. It was a total speculation that I bought from a swap meet picker. I'm a sucker for those things. It was not cheap either. He said he paid $5 for the film lot or some such thing. It does not matter to me, I'm not in it for the $, I am in it for the history. It may be a total waste, or it could be a treasure. Not much film footage on Betty out there. I'm in the process of reorganizing film collection and things are a mess. Here is Betty in her prime! DDTJRAC Also have an 8mm lot I picked up of circus films. I hate 8mm, but it was a nice collection from a circus promoter and performer. His personal collection, so picked it up. What are you scanning that is interesting and noteworthy? <><><><> Daniel D.
