Burned out / no shadow detail depends on the subject matter. The image has the final say, not the clipping bars. That being said, try to get as much detail as you can in the raw image and finalize it in post. Some scenes with a huge dynamic range are near impossible to get no clipping. <><><><> Found photo. DDTJRAC Teeth are shot so not much hope of getting a gobbler down. When I come into some $$, I will get some implants. About $4,000 per tooth after all is said and done. And if you need a sinus lift, add lots more $$. Anyway, grateful for still being able to eat some soft turkey meatloaf. I made some fresh cranberries yesterday. I run the sauce through a Champion Juicer to remove the skins. Can't chew the skins. A lady gardener gave me lots of cukes this summer. I had no use for that big amount of them, so I experimented with making pickles by lacto fermentation preservation. Worked out great. Now I chop up the pickle slices very finely with a Santoku knife and can eat some as a relish. Provides probiotics as well. Vinegar pickles are not lacto fermented and have no probiotics. Food preservation was a big deal back in the day before refrigeration. The day humans learned how to make cheese was a big breakthrough. Cheese was invented as a way to preserve milk. Cows produce 6 to 7 gallons of milk every day, so something has to be done with it. Later today I may make a lemon meringue pie or pumpkin pie. Have not decided yet. Thanks for the scoop Dan! You would think FF would be talking about their new products. People may be buying something else instead of waiting for the new FF products to come online. After reading about the problems with the current FF scanner I'd be scared to get one until it was out for some time. These problems with the FF are pretty basic to the scanner operation, such as scratching film or not working out of the box. It reminded me of a ring box I had bought a while back. If you put rings in it the lid would not shut all the way. Did anyone ever try it before mass producing it? I'm wondering how big the scanner market is. Can it fit the classic U.S. Ponzi scheme market of endless growth and consumption in a finite world? I got an email the other day from a small scanning company out west saying they will be shutting down shop for lack of biz. It seems the market for these types of scanners are either archives, commercial scanning companies specializing in 8mm and 16mm or small indie filmmakers. Hollywood is not buying them unless it is the top end Lasergraphics. Modern scanners sound very reliable. Thanks for the info. I had thought they had more issues with heavy use, since you had mentioned you pay thousands of $ per year for tech support. Tech support must be for imaging questions and not so much in the repair dept.

Are there any film archives that give out decent res material for free? Leni Riefenstahl 16mm...much of my life revolves around it. It is by far the largest part of my Archive, while being the least exploited media I have due to the expense of the scanning operation needed to benefit from it. So, it is a love-hate relationship with it. Without 16mm, a lot of our history would have been lost.
